***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 3 new videos every week! Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

i have found that the japanese beetles really prefer to eat a weed called kiss me over the garden gate, Polygon. so i always let a patch grow and the beetles leave everything else alone.

I can't imagine they like anything better than rose buds! I usually have so many on the buds I can't see the color.
@patkillian3511
@patkillian3511 4 года назад
I have found using a preventive measure to my roses is to sprinkle a granular that controls a lot of pests like snails including grubs that cause the japanese beetles. It will get harder and harder to spray those fruit trees against the beetles. I know you don't like insecticides, but get rid of grubs no japanese beetles.

First, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Kevin's t-shirts! 2nd, our ducks LOVE reading Japanese Beetles. I knock them out of the sky for them to catch, and they do a good job on their own too. I built a Japanese Beetle trap using a 5gal bucket, the lid with a hole cut to accomodate a a left over vertical piece of rain gutter pipe, an upside down 1 gal crystal geyser bottle with the top cut out, with perpendicular vanes made from halves of an old plastic cutting board (cut with 1/2 thru broad side slits to notch together, and a little wired catch to hold the ripe fruit bait.

Great videos; just came across this one. I use the traps myself but empty the bag into a freezer bag and freeze the beetles and the next day i feed them to my chickens; they absolutely love them. Keep up the good work

Funny story about Japanese beetles. I used to have a small vegetable garden. When the beetles showed up, I enlisted the help of my then 7 year old son and a friend of his. I gave them each a plastic container with soapy water in it, and they brushed the beetles off the plants and into the soapy water. Then they dumped the containers onto the deck to count their catch. I paid them a penny a piece for each beetle. It kept the boys busy, and it was worth 25-50 cents.

Does the Neem Oil have any adverse effect upon honeybees ? The Chinese have duck with plum sauce. Why not Quail with wild plum sauce also ? Wild plum jam should be quite tasty . After watching several of your videos and all the different plants you grow, have you ever tried growing luffa gourd? I plant some and was very happy with the final product. I would cut both ends off and using a round stick to push the seeds out then peeling them I left them in the sun to dry. I found many uses besides using them in the shower. In the kitchen to scrub pots, outside to clean root vegies like carrots. You could even sell them at the farmers market, it would surprise many people that the are grown from a gourd. Just a thought.
