No offense meant but Waylon Jennings walked out on the recording sessions over long late hours and a disagreement....so he is not in the video. His voice may be in the general chorus on the recording. You can look it up online. Only Willie Nelson was in the video, with a solo too, so I am wondering if you got those two mixed up.

Think of it this way...these are American icons...Michael Jackson played on the same radio as a bunch of people you never heard of. Plus, a lot of these fade with time. Hulk Hogan and Bob Backlund wrestled at the same time...but come the 2000s, one of those names is FAR more recognized. Hell, I know who Backlund is and still couldn't pick him out of a crowd

I was one who thought I'd never want to hear this again! Because it was everywhere! You could not get away from it if you tried! But, I watch every reaction that I see and each time I feel the same emotion, which in itself is hard to put into words. There is a sadness because some of those icons are no longer with us. Some of those artists were at the very beginning of their careers and are now legends! Some were at the height of their careers and killing it on the charts each week! Every genre is represented by artists at different stages of their careers, but for this one moment they stood shoulder to shoulder as equals for a cause that needed a hero! I'm so thankful that this happened in my lifetime because there will never be another one!

So many of us we're completely in the dark. 😞 None of us had any idea that people were dying by the thousands each & every single day from starvation!! When this song went out over the air, and every DJ all over the world 🌎 people were not only stunned 😯, but this music collaboration hit #1!!! This is when, "WE ALL FOUND OUT ABOUT ABOUT THE STARVATION THAT WAS GOING ON IN AFRICA!!!" THESE MUSICIANS WERE BELTING OUT TO EVERY HUMAN BEING TO LET THE WORLD KNOW THAT WE, " THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD HAD TO ACT **NOW**, NONE OF US COULD JUST STAND BY, KNOWING THAT PRECIOUS LIVES WERE ON THE LINE, THEY NEEDED ASSISTANCE AND TO BE FED TODAY!! THIS SONG WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST MUSIC 🎶🎶🎶 STARS SINGING, IT WAS ABOUT ONE THING, AND ONLY ONE THING!! I was around 14 when this magic happened. This song was played all over the World. I remember the day of 28th of March of 1996, like over 6.000 radio stations all over the planet, played the song simultaneously at 10:15am. It has been the biggest moment of unification that I ever lived in my life. Something that is just utopia, a dream at the day of today... I'm so glad that I'm coming from that era. Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie materialized a masterpiece that night in L.A. This song has been made for charity. A support to Africa.

This is probably the greatest musical collaboration that has ever happened and we will never see its like again. After nearly 4 decades this song still brings me to tears. It was such a labor of love, but more than that it was SUCH an important project. In the mid-1980s a terrible famine was ravaging Ethiopia and people were dying by the thousands. By the time it finally ended over a million people had died. Those images, especially the ones of the sick and emaciated children, have never left me. It was absolutely heartbreaking. This project raised over $60 million for famine relief and this song is still earning money. Again, I doubt we will ever see a collaboration of this magnitude again. Artists today are simply too superficial and self-absorbed. Every single singer involved in this project was an absolute legend and I’m glad I was alive to experience it.

"We Are the World" is a charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. With sales in excess of 20 million copies, it is the eighth-best-selling physical single of all time. Also, at the beginning, you were wondering about the signatures, and yes, all those singers signed their names. I don't know where that cloth is located, but I'm sure it's worth a pretty penny, as some of those singers have passed on up to now. This was done after the AMA (American Music Awards) show and since they were there anyway for the Awards, then they all gathered together and did this. Arrangement Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner and Billy Joel sing the first verse; Michael Jackson and Diana Ross sing the first chorus; Dionne Warwick (Whitney Houston's Aunt), Willie Nelson and Al Jarreau sing the second verse; Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry and Daryl Hall sing the second chorus; Jackson, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, and Kim Carnes sing the bridge. "We Are the World" concludes with Bob Dylan and Ray Charles singing a full chorus, Wonder and Springsteen duetting, and ad libs from Charles and Ingram. The structure is said to "create a sense of continuous surprise and emotional buildup". The following people sang in the chorus: Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belafonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Mario Cipollina, Johnny Colla, Sheila E., Bob Geldof, Bill Gibson, Chris Hayes, Sean Hopper, Jackie Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Bette Midler, John Oates, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita Pointer, June Pointer, Ruth Pointer, and Smokey Robinson. Directed by Quincy Jones.

Amazing collaboration. I am old enough to recognise almost everyone of them except for a few since I was more into rock. Have you seen the British version that came prior to this one? Bob Geldof was the initial creator this whole project, artists for Africa. You must see that one. This is my 80s, everything lol

They recorded this song right after the grammies so that's how they got all the stars at the same time, otherwise this wouldn't have had so many stars in it. They did it after the brits actually did it first with the amazing song DO THEY KNOW ITS CHRISTMAS. They actually got all the British singers to get together to record the song magically. They all showed up just from the goodness of their hearts after being invited by Bob Geldolf ( and friends ). You should check it out. It's amazing. Other countries started doing the same after the UK started it, including the song TEARS ARE NOT ENOUGH by Canadian singers and of course USA FOR AFRICA too. My favorite part is when Steve Perry from JOURNEY sings THERE'S A CHOICE WE'RE MAKING, WE'RE SAVING OUR OWN LIVES. In a room full of amazing singers, he stood out the most in just a few seconds ( and he wasn't even one of my favorite singers before this lol) . Thanks for the great reaction and keep smiling 🤘 🙂

There was also another one performed by popular latinx singers of that time (Julio Iglesias, Jose Feliciano, etc:) they called themselves "Vocas Unidas", and the song was called "Cantere Canteras", it's on youtube.

The reason why everyone was so humble and united was because Quincy Jones set the tone. He had a sign over the door that said “leave your egos at the door.“ And all of these stars took the time to come record this after the Grammys that evening.

Bob Geldof was there (he is in the chorus). He was the originator of this idea (see “ Band Aid”) and he did the concert that Queen has the famous set in He was at this but left because he couldn’t believe how obnoxious/diva some of the US singer were behaving. Upset over the food; upset over who got to sing what; upset over amount of camera time (Michael). He left midway through the shoot

@Vern Sherris well, Quincy had some pretty Diva habits in f his own but the song turned out great. Prince refused to sing unless he could do it from his own studio. Steve Perry’s manager didn’t want him to do it - the song wasn’t rock n roll enough - thankfully Steve overruled him. Haha. I always wonders how Dan Akroyd got in there
@rileyandmike

@Vern Sherris I don’t doubt that 1) European New Wave era = 1/2 vagina right there, 2) over dramatic in all the interviews I ever saw. So I agree with you on that, but it doesn’t change what the artists on video were acting the same.

The original BandAid idea originated the idea for a record to raise money for Africa started in the UK in around 1984, by Bob Gendolf of the group The Boomtown Rats. Live Aid recorded a song with multiple groups and singers, singing a song to raise money. This was to go towards the Ethiopian Famine of the time. They also staged an all-day concert that was recorded in several countries, including the US to raise extra funds. Thirty years later in 2014, they released the song again with a fresh set of musicians to please the younger audiences, raising a lot more money in the process. The song was 'Do They Know it's Chrismas' , 1985 and 2014 versions are available on RU-vid.
