Ah, King's How, how I love thee! Verdant woodland that gives way to the purple and silver hues of a summit that will take ones breath away. A 360 degree panorama capable of reducing any person with a soul to tears. This Lake District hill is VERY special and must be placed high on any true nature lovers hitlist.
-------------------------------------------------
The Tale of Ticky Tom
Tom liked his own company. Since retiring he spent most of his days wandering the Lakeland fells trying to keep away from the madding crowds. His bright blue eyes had seen just about every nook and cranny of this beautiful region. He’d often find a grassy ledge on a crag, hidden from prying eyes, and bask in the sunshine; drifting off into his thoughts. Sometimes falling asleep.

One gloriously sunny afternoon in late August he had done just that. He’d eaten his pork pie and quaffed a couple of cups of tea from his flask. Satiated, he sat with his back to the rock and listened to the soothing sound of the breeze rushing through the bracken and heather that surrounded him. His eyelids grew heavy and soon the sounds faded as he drifted into a deep slumber.

He dreamed of his wife, which he had done many times since she’d passed two years earlier. They were always happy dreams. But this time something was different. He felt an overwhelming sense of weakness; drained, almost. As he looked at his wife’s smiling face hundreds of tiny holes opened in her skin and within each of those tiny holes were hundreds of pointy teeth. His skin burned. It was as though he was being stabbed by a thousand hot needles all over his body. What a terrible nightmare! His subconscious mind began to lift him from this disturbing dream and soon woke.
⠀⠀
He opened his eyes. But only a little as something was preventing him from opening them fully. Through this narrow gap he looked down at his bare legs and let out a blood chilling cry. But the sound was muffled as his mouth was obstructed by the same thing - or things. He tried to move but simply had no energy and slumped to the ground. He lay there staring at the sky; covered head to toe with thousands of big fat juicy ticks that had left almost no blood in his now shrivelled prune-like body. The last thing his bright blue eyes saw was the crow that landed on his forehead just before pecking them out.
Nobody saw Ticky Tom again but it’s said he’d managed to drag himself to a nearby cave where he sometimes grabs unsuspecting walkers into the darkness to drain them of their blood.

Even in rain, there is comfort in it and beauty. The silence of you walking between the ferns and hearing the wind is so blissful. Walking within nature to my ears. This is where I would love to be. Not the same as being there I know but your video captures it completely. The rocks on the summits have been there for ions, and you are treading the past and history. Then to land up in a pub for that nectar must be bliss.

Indeed, a beautiful and absolutely breathing video that captured everything gorgeous to truly behold. I have been many times to the Bowder stone and after playing around there for a short while quickly scurrying off to the highest mountains of Great Gable and Lords Rake and missing the rest of that beautiful place. So, now I shall do this walk and see this incredible beauty and breathtaking place indeed. It did amaze me when you read Wainwrights words from his book and was all so amazingly true and how correct Wainwright was when he said in his book that people pass this fell and move on to the highest fells and mountains like Great Gable and Scafell Pike. Wainwright new peoples movement and thoughts. although, he never was people person or stopped for a chat... (Here below) is one of my favroutes Quotes by Afraid Wainwright. Kindest regards... 👍👍👍 I went whenever I could, and always my eyes lifted to the hills. I was to find a spiritual and physical satisfaction in climbing mountains and a tranquil mind upon reaching their summits, as though I had escaped from the disappointments and unkindness of life and emerged above them into a new world, a better world. Alfred Wainwright

Hi BC many years ago when I was knee high to a grasshopper we came on holiday to the lakes and we went on a Mountain goat tour one of the destinations was the Bowderstone !!!. The story went that the stone was brought to It's resting place by a glacier apparently the stone is made up of a type of rock that's only found in Scotland as a small kid I found this awe-inspiring. Just thought I'd let you hear the story I was told I remember the day for two reasons there was a french lady who decided to go for a wander on her own making the mountain goat driver short on time and inadvertently ruining the day for everyone else on the tour B---- !!!. Anyway excellent vlog keep up the great work cheers...Mike.

I did a similar walk back in March this year, got off the bus for the Bowder Stone. I came around to Kings Howe from the stile you showed before the Bowder Stone, but alas I missed out going up Kings Howe (definitely going to go back), then on to Grange Fell. I crossed over the Bridleway to Great Crag instead of heading to Watendlath, down to Dock Tarn. Descending down the woods back to Rosthwaite for a quick pint at the Scafell Hotel then onto Castle Crag finishing at Grange. Just over 10 miles walked. Once again cracking video

Lovely video Glen, we did this walk in the opposite direction in the early Autumn last year (without High Crags and Bowder bit but came back along river under Castle Crag - one of our favourite paths) and its was so treacherous coming down from Kings How, it took us ages (stunning with autumn leaves here, would recommend doing at this time of year for certain)! Beautiful area and so much to explore! The cafe is lovely at Watendlath, especially in late autumn and they do a big pot of hot chocolate to drink in the garden with all the delightful birds joining you! Hogs Earth area also very lush and beautiful further along towards the lake, worth a visit too by walking north from cafe below road following the stream into woods and down into Hogs Earth area before popping out above Ladore Falls region - gorgeous! You cant go wrong in any direction here, in fact getting a bit lost is even more fun seeing where you end up, as you cant go to far off course in this lovely valley! Wainwright said this area was the most beautiful square mile in the district! Nuff said hey! Cant wait for next walk to Sergants and Eagle Crags - been wanting to do these now for some time!! Great work!
