This hole is here for a REASON! - The Unknown Gameplay | Dead by Daylight PTB 

I know it sounds funny, but a lot of the previous Killers felt way off during the PTB. Skull Merchant was incredibly lackluster, Knight's guards were absolutely pathetic, Wesker's collision was huge, etc... this is the first PTB where I'm having fun with the Killer's power and it doesn't feel like it's an unfinished product that will have to go through several more changes before we get to play the final iteration.

@@notOtzdarva I think my main issue is that shooting lavender goo at people doesn’t really fit his aesthetic. Some people say the power in general doesn’t fit, but I think if they changed the color of the goo to black or a dark red it would be really cool. Lavender is not a color I associate with creepiness.

​@@Foeisudhxjhmm i dont mind it, and for gameplay purposes its ideal for both sides. I wouldnt say the whole magic explosion fits him as a whole but the color is fine. But youre entitled to your opinion ofc.

@@Foeisudhxj It actually kind of does in a sense. The Unknown is an urban legend of sorts that everyone has their own ideas on what it is. Some thought it was an axe killer, therefore it has an axe. Some thought it was a body snatcher that uses voices to lure people in. Some thought it was a government made bioweapon, hence the organic grenade launcher. In the Entity' realm, The Unknown is the culmination of people' thoughts on what The Unknown is.

Imagine if the Unknown had that as a voice line

It’s not so random, you can control the placement of his Hallucinations by charging UVX or walking close to hooks.

Yes!! I'm so happy someone pointed it out! The sound design team definitely doesn't get as much love as they should. This killer is tied with Dredge on that front far as I'm concerned!

yeah the power may had been a little off but the top notch sound design made up for it

yeah its weird they built a killer around how bad their maps are lol. it also helps with ppl who run 3 times around the rock. now those ppl get injured. that was some of the most boring gameplay in the game

An out of the way interactable is in fact placing the burden on the survivors to deal with. Harder counterplay doesn't necessarily mean good counterplay (especially not with bhvr's dedicated servers)

Agreed. Very few killers live up to their lore. Last solid one was Skull Merchant, which used drones as generator-patrol and had amazing intel. Glad that this killer also lives up to his “fear of the unknown” vibe

I don’t think you get it. They don’t just pick one horror style over the other. They do them ALL, and that is why it is so good. Horror and what some find scary is…. Varied from person to person, to say the least. Fear is subjective. DbD developers being able to give a wide range of horrors AND do them well thematically is what separates this game from the rest. So, no. Just because you find that kind of thing appealing does not mean DbD should produce only THAT thing. I would argue that Skull Merchant is a very well-executed horror, but it is niche. It is a niche pseudo-realistic horror, like Trickster. Where the scary aspect is them being regular people, but committing atrocities, as opposed to generic “flesh monsters”. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but has it’s place. Likewise, Trapper/Billy are “Texas horror”. Spirit and Sadako are “paranormal/ghost horror”, etc. all have their place being. The RANGW of DbD is what makes it so damn special

Yeah, I don't really like his name. That's my only real issue. He's a folklore monster, and should be named as such. Monsters like this aren't named because of things people don't know about it, they name them after what they can see, hence why Slenderman is called Slenderman. It's a tall, thin man in a suit. Or the Jersey Devil, which fit the typical description of a demon. Mothman? That's a giant, man-sized moth creature. I'd rather he be called "The Twisted" or "The Crooked", because that's what he looks like, and it sounds more akin to a real name. "The Unknown" sounds like something named in a novel or a movie, purely made up just to sound scarier.

@@Alyrael admittedly there is somewhat of an explanation to the reason he's isn't named traditionally in his lore, the unknown often hunts those who attempt to learn about it, the victim he stalks in the lore a women named Olivia he only begins to attempt her life when she draws an approximate depiction of what the unknown could look like and it's essentially said that he comes after her for trying to define him, so the fact he isn't named after a description makes sense since he hunts and kills those who try to give him a definitive description physical or otherwise and so we only have basic ideas of what it could be, I still agree the flesh would work better since as said that's just as none specific about it as the unknown but it explains the lack of a traditional "folklore creature" name.

@@Alyrael The whole point of The Unknown is that no one knew what was causing the disappearances. Was it an ancient evil? Was it a government-created-super-bioweapon gone wrong? Or just some everyday serial killer? The Unknown is an amalgamation of the myths and stories people told to rationalize the disappearances. Whether or not that’s lazy writing is a second point (cuz it kinda is). But the gameplay feel of the killer makes everything much better.

How would you describe that sound? I know which one you're talking about

Fun fact, I tried to recreate the shot in a custom game to get footage and I couldn't do it 😂 Maybe with time we'll find a method to help line up these shots.
