I just watched your trim job on Lakota from four months ago when her feet were so dry. It’s interesting to see the difference here. Nice. My horse is a pretty big guy, but Lakota’s feet are the size of dinner plates. Farriers work SO hard and they’re usually the most important professional for our horses on a regular basis. No hoof, no horse….

Truth!!! We owned several horses in our lifetimes, and now that I am retired and living in a mobile home, I live for these videos. My husband passed away a little over a year ago so this is something that helps me to remember the good memories. Thank you Caleb! Keep up the great work!

I'm an Uber driver and a moderate Republican. One of the best conversations I ever had with a passenger was with a very far-left college professor. It was polite and respectful. At the end of the ride, I told him I think I should tip him because the debate was so respectful and enjoyable.

I’m delighted to know that the professor may have enlightened you. I’m am also far left. There’s good republicans you can support if you must be republican. If any democrats acted like the GOP today, I wouldn’t support them.

Caleb, thank you for your code. The barn owner used it and ordered another 6 hoof rest stands for the barn. So now there is no fighting at lesson time when people are grooming their horses. We now have extra stands, so that if an owner is there to hack out with their horse while a lesson group is getting ready, they have a stand they can use as well. So, in total, we now have 11 of these great stands at the barn!! Thank you again for the code!! Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦

We always made sure each horse to be trimmed or shod had perfectly cleaned hooves and if there were feathers, those were wrapped up out of the way. It's only fair to have your horses ready to be worked on. Also we always had cold drinks and sandwiches for the farrier!

A question, if you do this horses' hooves for a while - why don't you come in shorter intervals so the hooves don't look totally overgrown and neglected each time and you have so much more work?
@charlottebonnie5320
@charlottebonnie5320 7 месяцев назад
An honest answer would probably not be satifying for you. ------ This is a question I would like to ask the trimmers of Far East!! You probably don`t believe what is going on overthere: Watch "overgrown hooves - donkeys"!! The owners and the trimmers are extremely evil.

I have watched many of your videos along with the Idaho school. You guys are great. Regarding your comment about being fit to do this kind of work: My wife always wanted a horse. So after a time we got some land and horses and have been doing the homestead thing for about fifty years. I am an avid DIY'er. Metal worker, welder, cabinet maker, gardener, machinist all of that stuff. So, I wanted to take care of the horses feet on my own. The internet was in its' infancy and You tube was not invented yet so I bought every book I could find and picked a lot of people's brains. Since our horses were just for riding on the property I never had to worry about shoes. So what I did was take care of their feet weekly so they NEVER looked like some of the horrors you guys have to deal with. I can attest that it is absolutely hard work. So, I learned to train horses, mostly so I would not get hurt. We don't have horses anymore but, I remember only too well the patience it took to do their feet correctly. What is very satisfying to me is that after seeing videos of experts like you and others, I found out I was doing it right all along. Thank you from a seasoned citizen for all you do.

It appears to me that the hoof stand would be easier to use if it were more shaped to actually hold the hoof, and not so much of a bump sticking up. It's too easy for the hoof to just slide right off...
@caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed
@caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed 9 месяцев назад
It doesn't quite work that way unfortunately. This is the design that works the best nothing short of tying the hoof to something solid is going to stop them from moving or make them keep the hoof on the stand
@joycethornsberry18

Hoof Jack seams to need traction. The hoof is sliding so much on the Jack. Ours have a traction grid that holds the hoof more steady. Love the videos.

In UK, was at the stables when the farrier came to do Triggers hoofs (3 year old Clydesdale) . Everything went well till the front left, hoof up on the jack , farrier bent over grasping hoof with knees. Trigger had been excellent all the way, over an hour for the first 3 hoofs, he just "settled" and the farriers back went out, slipped disc.

Would it be preferred to have heavy drafts shod if they're working horses since they're prone to flaring, or is regular and proper hoof care enough? I see a lot of videos of draft horses with huge amounts of flare and dishing but what I also see a lot on those horses is overgrown frogs and laid over and bent or broken bars, is that just how heavy draft hooves will be or is there a way to stay ahead of that problem?

It must be odd if you'd go from trimming her to a Shetland! I'm in wild horse country in Canada bordering with Montana and yep, we're pretty dry here ... horribly bad this year. Odd how she had both hooves split in almost the exact spot in the front. That trim is sure going to help if her arthritis was acting up and making her antsy, which would make sense in that weather.
