Attracting hummingbirds is easy in Ecuador, since it has the most hummingbird species of any country in the world. Our latest hummingbird photography adventure took us to the Umbrellabird Lodge in JocoToco's Buenaventura Reserve. Here we saw the Band-tailed Barbthroat, White-whiskered Hermit, Baron's Hermit, the Green Thorntail and many more!

Another incredible video Carole. I think my favorite photo is the male and female Green Thorntail sitting together!! That was awesome! Williams drone footage is amazing. But my favorite part is the giant leaf!!!

The footage of the thorntail spreading its wings so you actually see its Game-of-Thrones thorn-tail is so spectacular!! And the giant leaves of that plant are amazing!

Band-tailed Barbthroat and the White-whispered Hermit as well as the Green Thorntail are gorgeous hummingbirds. Okay well there were so many beautiful hummingbirds in this video I won’t list them all. You know which ones were there. Such beautiful birds, this was a fantastic vlog. Beautiful. I just put a hummingbird feeder up about a week ago n have not seen one yet. Any idea how long it takes to attract them or before the notice the feeder?

Make sure you watch my "Attracting Hummingbirds" series. Number one is you have to make sure you feeders are seen by hummingbirds passing by. It probably took me a couple of weeks before I saw my first one.

Hello!! Request for the editor: Could you add the scientific names with the common names when you show the hummingbirds?? They are world wide valid and It would be easier for me and some friends to identify which species you are showing cause we are brazillian and don't know many common names in english hahaha

I generally don't put the latin names because there are several subspecies, and when I started photographing the hummingbirds I was unsure of which subspecies I was photographing. I am much more knowledgeable after doing this for several years and maybe I should start adding the latin names. Thanks for the suggestion.

They are fantastic creatures. Would love to see some but I have never been to America or South America. I am in Australia. I am curious about the names of hummingbirds. In this group, I am wondering if the last name indicates relationships of groups of species, as would normally be the case in bird names. Just examples from copying text below: Is Band-tailed Barbthroat related to other species of Barbthroat and is the White-whispered Hermit related to other species of Hermit and is the Green Thorntail related to other species of Thorntail and is the Crimson Topaz related to other species of Topaz? Or are these group names just sort of random?
