An esker is a long, winding ridge of stratified sand and gravel, typically deposited by meltwater streams flowing beneath a glacier. As the glacier melts, the sediment carried by the water is left behind in the form of a raised, snake-like ridge that can stretch for miles. Eskers are often found in regions that were once covered by glaciers and are a common feature in glacial landscapes.
