I was about to watch an old rate the bait and I saw this new one pop up. Keep doing these, they’re awesome.

Berkeley Choppo is the best plopped bait hands down. In my opinion. Fish that don't want to bite will bite it period.

Love rate the bait! Here's a few suggestions: drop shot baits, soft swimbaits(normal size or larger), trailers(for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc)

A little trick I learned with ploppers is to use heat shrink tubing on the eye of the rear hook and over the split ring. Straightens out the rear hook for less drag, it's still flexible, and helps stop short strikes.

Running a plopper down a weed edge in the summer evenings/mornings is amazing I love it more than almost anything else fishing wise.

This bait is more than 100 years old. Unless I am missing something, the Mud Puppy from CC Roberts is the original plopper style bait. It was manufactured starting in 1918 and came in two sizes, one of which was 5.5" which is about the same size as Larry Dahlberg's version of this bait. Check it out for yourself. Like I said, maybe I'm missing something. BTW, I love this series Mark, keep it up! It really helps me see these baits from a whole different perspective.

MDJ giving out the secrets on the Choppo.......the swivel also helps with the line twist if your throwing it on mono. I prefer the Choppo over the plopper, the blade engages almost every time, where the whopper plopper seems to foul way more and when it does you always seem to lose 5-6' of productive water before it starts spinning.

The best topwaters are big wakebaits! Spro 50 rat, Pats perch, MS Slammer, Lanciotti phsyco gill. Since I started throwing big wakebaits I've been catching way bigger fish and more of them.

I thought it was my fault on the way I stored my Whopper Ploppers causing the blade to deform. After listening to you guys, now I feel better. I sold my Ploppers because of that problem. I have not bought any style Ploppers since. However, with that said, you mentioned the Berkley Choppo and gave it high ratings. I will order a couple in my favorite colors and try them out. Thanks! When I started fishing again a couple of years ago after several years, my buddy broke the plopper out and I literally laughed. It ain't no joke though. It catches slaunches fer sure!

I have thrown the googan revolver a lot in various colors, and I have caught alot of bass on this bait. The hooks are great. Haven't lost or had bad hook up ratio with this bait. I think it's a good top water bait over all for clean water situations! I always appreciate you guys on rate the bait 👍

River 2 sea has recently upgraded the hooks to 3x wide gap after years of complaints and people taking hooks off a $20+ bait.. if your buying one on a shelf of a major sporting goods store , the hooks are great from the package. Adrian I’ve also caught walleye in the early fall on plopper also walking baits in the same area was catching 3-4-5 pound smallmouth in the river in upstate ny before work at 5:25am still pitch dark

Boys this is very important so check it. I promise . All sizes of both berkley and river 2 sea were meant to give off different sounds. With berkley even the paint job gives a different sound. The HD colors will roll on their side because of A- the gloss and B it shows the profile of the fish while still keeping the tail end straight up. The overall best shize for choppo is the 75. I’ve used them all since the creation. I live on the Mohawk River ny where there’s 5-6lb smallmouth. I cannot count- but I have a fishbrain adkyakman, that’ll show you 100s of smallmouth between 3.5 and over 5, 2 over 6pounds on a choppo 75z the smaller size gives a louder more irritating plop than the 90 which gives a softer more subtle plop. The 105 gives the loudest plop that’s good on a slow consistent rol. I have some shorts on my RU-vid of smallmouth absolutely destroying this bait- check them out. The 75 for choppo and 90 of the River2sea are the most over looked baits on the entire market they aren’t meant for small fish they’re meant to not soook big fish, and produce a sound to irritate big fish to strike. boys you have to see the amount of, and size of the smallies I’ve caught on those little guys. I can’t same the same for the bigger sizes.

You should do an all around top water RTB! There is so many top water baits out there. I love me some top water action so my collection has a lot of variety to it. My new top water I’m gonna try this year is the Evergreen International Shower Blows top water bait. Y’all should give that a try and let us know what you think.

Larry Dahlberg has videos on youtube from back in 2009 of how he builds his original whopper ploppers. So he has been building them before that. And that category of lure has been around LONG before that... decades and decades. Larry was the first one to have that soft tail instead of metal and it had a unique sound.

The revolver is pretty decent, but the center hook fouls up quite a bit, but the worst part is that it's easy to break since it's hard plastic.. don't throw it around any hard cover..

I feel vindicated when choppo got praise. It’s my favorite plopper style. On the 75 I will stick suspend strip to the bottom of it, seems to help hookup ratio on smallmouth. Especially when they are hitting them super hard

Lmao😂 feel your pain DC. Budy of mine stuck me in the back of the head with a 110. Both hooks stuck in me. Luckily i had a buzz cut at the time and we was able to use the braid method to get them out. That crap hurt.

What all these pros missed is the choppo tail is too brittle... I fish tournaments on the California delta...and I have had the tail snap off catching a bass around 7 pounds.... and I've also had the tail break barely hitting a limb that was round as my pinky....I was like really? That's why I stay with the O.G. when money is on the line I'd rather stay with the more consistent bait that doesn't fail 💯

River2sea and Berkely choppo are the best ones but I noticed the choppo sounds deeper. The 130 choppo sounds insane definitely a muskie/pike attraction here in the north east
