I just found out that the OSD Audio SMP1000 Mono 1000W Class D Subwoofer is exactly the same as the Soundavo, and $50 cheaper. 😳 There's a page in the OSD Audio SMP1000 Owner's Manual that is exactly the same as the Soundavo PSB-1000 describing the DSP function word for word, and showing the exact DSP screens. 🤔 So, I canceled the Soundavo, and ordered the OSD Audio SMP1000. 😁
If and when you do your next video, it would be great to know how you set the output levels so that you do not damage the subwoofers (two subwoofers is what I'm interested in) that are less than 500 watts each. As well it would be great to know what level to set for say 200, 250, 300, 400, 450 watts. Also does the unit give off much heat when it's putting out a lot of volume. Thanks
The amount of power depends the volume and the frequency. It's better to overpower than to underpower. You won't always be at 500 Watts. That's just a rating that tells you that the amplifier can comfortably do 500 Watts. Your subs will be fine
I just ordered one of these on sale. 😁 My Dayton Audio SPA500 plate amp died after 7 years, and after replacing bulging capacitors trying to prolong it’s life. 🤦🏽♂️ I wanted to try something different instead of buying another plate amp. I hope I get good results. 🤞🏽 I would like to see a tear down to take a peak inside. 😅
I just got this amp. Hooked it up. Sounds great but inside the chassis I can see a red light blinking on the circuit board. Back right corner near speaker output. Anyone else see this light blinking?
@Kpaceguy I am really interested in this amplifier, especially the remote control volume levels. I am currently using an old stereo amp with a remote to control the volume of my subs, but it does not provide enough power to drive my subs, and this amp seems to fit the bill perfectly. I would like to know specifically when you adjust the volume on the amp, does the rotary dial move or is it just displayed on the LCD screen? Thanks in advance, love the channel.
If this does what it claims I'd rather this than the Crown. Having said that I'm not one to buy 'no name' brands. When I went on my sub amp journey I ended up with a class A/B Emotiva which I'm happy with. Was cheaper as well but 'only' 500 watts. Woulda been thrilled with a subsonic filter etc.
@@Kpaceguy Did you know that the difference between 1000w and 2000w results in +3db of spl which is the amount that it barely perceptible by most people? The 1600w rms rating on your subwoofer drivers is based on the amount of sustained power that the voice coil can handle before overheating. Most likely you'll run into extreme distortion and the mechanical limits of the suspension components before you get to that point. If you really need 1000w for the SPL that you want, then you need way more efficient drivers or bass columns. Haven't looked at the specs of the Ultimax 15" lately but basically if they are rated at 88db with 1watt at a meter then running 2 with 1,024 watts of power will give you hypothetically 124db. Of course, in reality that will depend on many other factors. With 512 watts you'd get 121db of spl at one meter and at 256 watts you'd get 118db of spl. As an aside it is inaccurate to say that you built a Rythmik clone when your design doesn't use servo control. You built and opposing force or balanced force subwoofer. Which is still cool and impressive but it is more like something offered by Martin Logan, Pardigm, or other companies. May not seem like it but my intention is to be helpful and give information to you or others that may be of benefit in future projects. Speaker design can become addictive and upsetting when a design doesn't go the way one wants. That's why I suggest reading as much about speaker, crossover, and amplifier design as you can even if you don't intend on building anything because that knowledge can help save money and time when buying products as well.
make sure the subsonic filter is disabled when you use this amp. zero need for it with the box size are excursion you have on those UM-15's. you don't reach xmax until 2 hz. you ain't getting down there!
