This is ALMOST DEAD SPACE VR... // First Person Callisto Protocol VR Gameplay (UEVR)

I REALLY want a Dead Space VR game, I want one so badly that I decided to use UEVR to create the closest thing to a VR Dead Space experience I could imagine; Callisto Protocol VR. Now Callisto Protocol is a much more melee focused game with a dodge and parry mechanic driving it's combat encounters but the atmosphere, location, story and even creature designs are all VERY much Dead Space. Using UEVR (the Unreal Engine VR mod) I've been able to create a pretty solid first person Callisto Protocol VR experience that's very intense, it's definitely not perfect and still needs a little work to iron out a few kinks, but this is an exciting new way to revisit a pretty solid single player horror game. You will need a fairly chunky PC setup to enjoy this VR mod however, Callisto Protocol is still a wonky game in terms of performance and even I was experiencing moments of hitching and visual artifacts running the game on my 4090 VR setup. Callisto Protocol VR might not ACTUALLY be Dead Space VR, but it definitely get's pretty close in a lot of ways...
This Callisto Protocol VR gameplay was captured using a 4090 VR ready PC with a Quest 3 connected via link cable, to try this yourself you'll need the free UEVR mod which you can download here: github.com/praydog/UEVR/releases

In order for vr to fully take off, it needs more devs to commit porting full games to it. Playing re village in psvr2, and it’s one of the most amazing and immersive experiences I’ve played in my almost 40years of gaming. Nothing comes close.

Affordability is also key. To get a similar experience to Beardo here it is a hefty price tag.

Devs (especially AAA gaming) are too averse to risky endeavors. It makes sense, some of the best VR games ever made didn't even sell 1mil copies. Plus, VR itself has no 'standard' headset that everyone uses. Vive, SteamVR, Quest, (Oculus at one point), Apple, (PhoneVR?), etc., etc., unlike let's say flatscreen gaming: Playstation, Xbox, Switch, and PC. And most games are multi-platform across all four. Compare that to VR which hosts very store-specific VR games/apps AND aren't multi-platform friendly either. Sure VR is more affordable than ever, but motion sickness is an extremely common issue VR has yet to solve for a good 95% of players. Then there's technical hiccups to add to that pile like SteamVR just not working well with Quest headsets or some strange combination of this VR headset with this app and it's just.. not "worth" it for gaming execs because there's too much risk of $$$. So in that sense, I applaud Meta and Zuck for sticking with VR despite their heavy financial losses. And, I agree. But TL:DR, it's just a losing battle against greedy corpo's.

95% huh you know 95% of statistics are made up also steam vr works fine with most all headsets and most of your other points also make little to no sense 🙄 but you are right its too risky for aaa titles that i do agree with @luciusliu9417

Gran Turismo 7 in VR... both these games should be on PCVR... just like RE4 Remake VR... but Sony are being assholes.

VR has basically nothing that can compete with the fidelity of worlds like this. I get the preference of deep-integration hand-controls, but why does that have to come at the expense of experiences like this?! There are SO many INCREDIBLE games that would be amazing to be fully surrounded in. Hybrids for the win.

Interactivity is the bones of VR. That needs to be hard wired tight before they start thinking in terms of fidelity.

Bought this game for £3.70 on CD Keys recently, honestly enjoyed it for the most part (I guess the price helped). Combat is not the deepest but it has a nice meaty feeling, most of all it looked and sounded amazing, really high quality in that department. As you say weak point is probably the story and the gameplay loop does get repetitive. Ran really well for me throughout with a 4070ti and Ryzen 7 5800 on a 1440p ultrawide HDR monitor.

People looking for Dead Space in VR and it's been there since early quest 2 days. Cosmodread! Cosmodread is amazing. If I could wipe my mind and play it fresh again, I'd still be playing it now. Put easily a hundred hours into that game. First trying to beat it, then trying to collect all the plans, and then trying to beat it consistently with the hardest mods on.

I test it yesterday ! cool but it lacks of feedback on weapons. Creatures are a little ridiculous too. It 's a little cheap. But cool though. I want a real Dead Space Vr anyway

It would be sick if you could tie "dodge" to head movement left/right rather than on the thumbstick. It would be super immersive then man.

I Would like to play RE4 remake in a 3rd person 3D viewpoint. On PSVR2 when the context actions switch to 3rd person, The third person looks much more comfortable than the full 1st person experience.

@@filipmartinez1162 the only way to do that would be with a PC mod. There is a VR mod for RE4, but I'm not sure if it has a 3rd person mode.

Loved the callisto protocol. Wish it didnt end so bitter with the dlc but perhaps there could be a resurgence of it someday with enough interest from different media. Look at what happened with the fallout tv show abd the resparked interest in the games. I know Callisto isnt a big household name like Fallout, but anything is possible.

the engine visceral used for the Dead Space trilogy was a highly customized version of the Renderware engine 😅 so unfortunately not Unreal in the slightest

If you are using Virtual Desktop, keep steam resolution multiplier at 100% and adjust it in Virtual desktop

No stutters with medium textures on 12100f and rx6600 i get more than 60 fps 1440p fsr, mostly cpu limited

Your enjoyment of Callisto Protocol totally depends on if you expect it to be Dead Space. If you do, you will be disappointed, if you don't, it's a pretty good game.

Despise Callisto for these strobe lighting lvls. Like I can 100% ignore all the blinkink lights warnings, worked for couple of years in environment where blinking lights are normal and yet this game managed to cause me discomfort.

Problem with this game is simple: The focus on melee combat. Scary experiences are just so because you DON'T want the monsters in the dark to creep UP ON YOU! In this game, however, the closer they are the better. Such incredibly stupid game design.
