SQUADRON YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO The excitement was so real in this one... I really thought Kratos was gonna be this frail old man but NAW HE STILL GOT IT!
Notice how kratos is walking towards the hut after fighting the stranger. Before he enters he fixes his posture, so that he doesn't look weak in front of atreus.
A lot of the story telling in this game is more subtle than in the others. For example: After BOY lights the candles and Kratos walks in, you can see how their relationship is just by the lighting. His mother being lit up well and Kratos being a hulking figure cloaked in shadow is a clear indicator of their relationship.
I swear that The Stranger has to easily be my favourite non-soulsborne boss fight ever, what a great opener to the game. I'm sure so many other people will let you know too, but FUN FACT: you can technically play through this entire game without the "camera" ever cutting, it's all in 1 continuous shot (obviously this is if you never pause, or open your inventory)
You said at the beginning that his blades are not on his arms. There is an easily missable part of the last cutscene in GOW 3, where upon Zeus's death, his chains fall off his arms since there is no one left to enforce his curse.
@@zanderbeasley5868 if i remember correctly in every game Kratos has different blades ..I think he just throw blades because he wanna kill Zeus bare hand
@@dinostylo7452 no the blades were magically attached, he couldnt get them off if he wanted to, they fell off because there was nothing left to bind them to him. yes the blades changed throughout the game but the chains were never removed
Fun fact Mati: the duology of the norse games are all shot in 1 shot, which means there will not be a single cut to black in between cutscenes to gameplay and vice versa.
Not only there are no cuts to black, there are no camera cuts at all. The camera moves arround all the time in the "(no) cut scenes" showing allways the best shot, ending at shoulder 3rd person for us to continue controling Kratos. As you say, a very big one shot from the menu screen to the end. An Awesome technical work from Santa Monica!!!
Yeah bro just wait. This game is going to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions AND nostalgia. I'm so excited bro for you bro. May God bless you. @@matiasgago
Hi Mati, love the video. Here's some spoiler-free info for the game: -The enemies are indeed tanky but it's because of the difficulty -Remember the stun bar, wich you can fill faster by punching bare handed. A stuned enemy is basically done for, can be useful in some situations -Sometimes you can use the environment as a weapon, by dropping stuff on enemies or knocking them off ledges for a fast kill -Fun fact: The whole game is just one long scene. Apart from when you pause the game, there are no camera cuts at all.
I mean, obviously is a different voice actor, but we can argue that as we grow older our voices/vocals also gets deeper with age. And here we have a clearly way older Kratos, so we can just assume his voice got to that point as well😄👍.
"That's a new voice actor. He's a legend, I hear." Christopher Judge. He played Teal'c in Stargate SG-1, and surprised me with his ability to convey emotion in the character.
LETS GOOO! I’ve been waiting for this day! I unfortunately could not watch the previous GoW episodes because I’ve not played them yet. But the 2018 and 2022 games are incredible! So excited to follow this series! ❤🎉
If I ever have a son I’m specifically going to tell him to hunt deer in the direction of deer. That is such a goated and underrated line. Looking forward to your journey with this one man. I’m late cause of work but your videos inspired me to go back and replay this beautiful franchise.
And just like that, Mati became a father. So much responsibility. Well good luck Mati, you got a lot coming your way with this one. Personally I think the reason why Kratos fails to build emotional connection with his son is because he has no reference. He grew up without father, and his biological father... well, he killed him. There was also the explanation that he didn't want his son to know about his past so he keeps distance from him to shield him.
Only the people that played The Originals can really understand how different Kratos is in this installment you get bits and pieces of his former self that comes out every now and then but he's so much more reserved than his former self... he is no longer Rage incarnate...but something much much more and much much less than he ever was...
Something that kept me amused through 2018 and Ragnarök is that the camera never cuts in game. Neither when entering or exiting cutscenes nor even during them. It's all seamless. Excited to see you continue the journey. Keep it up!
I never comment on videos but this franchise along with the reboot series of Tomb Raider got me back into gaming. I found your channel when you started playing the first game and have been having so much fun watching you play these games. Thank you for the amazing videos!
I remember when this first came out in 2018. Everyone was loosing their minds. God of war was back, but different. Was this the same Kratos? Yes. Everyone who knew him before this game was confused at first but went with it. The theory is that this takes place about 1,000 years after God of war 3. It is just so amazing. I highly HIGHLY recommend you watch “raising Kratos” documentary after beating this game. It’s the behind the scenes look at the dev process and production of the game it truly is an eye opener of how games are made in general but the amazing progress of the game and how it came about and Santa montica studios and the legendary Cory Barlog. Christopher Judge (new Kratos) is A treasure. Such A masterpiece of a game (considering it got GOTY) 2018. Just truly groundbreaking, and Ragnarok? Somehow even better. I am also so happy you played the OG trilogy first. Because a lot of new people started here and it is just not right as they started on 4 with so much missing context and lore of Kratos. Kratos is broken. Shattered. A shell of his former self. One who wanted to just live in peace and get away from the pantheon that he destroyed. I also want you to notice 1 thing about 2018 and Ragnarok…..it’s a one shot. Yup. A fucking one shot. I will be completely honest as well, I have yet to experience A journey as incredible as this and Ragnarok.
As someone who loved the soulsborne ost, I know you’re gonna fall in love with the new GoW soundtrack - it’s just so… fucking good, like up there with ER and BB
So glad you finally got to this phenomenal game Mati the level of detail and immersion is unmatched. I don't think I've ever been so emotionally attached to the characters and the world, more so than any film or work of art in this Norse saga of God of War not to forget Ragnarok too!
There’s one continuous camera with this game. No cut scenes or at least visible ones. This was a technical marvel at the time. IMO it still is given the graphic fidelity. Camera systems are some of the hardest things to make right in games. This game was like…hold my beer. And editing this because you guys already mentioned it! Glad others noticed it as well.
56:08 I love the facial capture they managed here. You can tell Kratos wants to cry, but he checks himself and slips back into an emotionless expression.
Its 2024. I am re-watching the show Lost which I watched for the first time in 2011. Currently on Season 5. Daniel Faraday, one of my favorite characters is played by Jeremy Davies who is the actor playing The Stranger in the last 20 minutes of this video. As I am watching this I am like "wait!! , that is Daniel Faraday!!!" Playing a 6 year old game and watching a 15+ year old show at the same time and being able to recognize the body language and gestures of the same actor was kind mind blowing to me! Awesome timing! Came here to watch the intro of the game 'cause I left in a halt mid game during pandemic.
I like that you take your time with it all, I have been looking forward to GOW 2018, since I found your channel during your Gow 1 playthrough. Your genuine reactions are just refreshing and wholesome. Good luck with the "Papa kratos" Journey :).
Papa Kratos, that was impressive. It took me like 30 tries to beat the stranger on balanced. But I never played a game like this before. No souls games until Demon’s Souls remake. Enjoy bro. It was very cool watching your reaction to retrieving the ax I’m glad you do a great job of talking to yourself. Lol. Best content on RU-vid. All the best.
Please don’t rush this game, there’s a lot of little things to get and pick up on lore wise. I think I speak for everyone that we don’t mind if this play through is 100 hrs and 40 episodes. Also so close to 40k ❤❤
Papa kratos ,finally you have reached the modern god of war games I have been waiting for you since the begin of the series I got so much excited and now even more I am so excited to see your great reactions after you complete this Masterpiece for me it's the 2nd best game I've ever played after Ragnarok 🙌🏽❤ You are the best RU-vidr beside Nicholas light for me in the last year
Somebody needs to tell Mati the story between Gow 3 and Gow 2018. The time gap, his constant nightmares and torment about his family, how he ended up here, in Norse mythology. Poor Mati doesn't have Vaatividya here to help him out 😂
Bro the moment you got that first parry I was like ohhhhh shit he’s got it! That wolf that caught you off guard was hilarious 😂. Hey I don’t mind a 100 hour walkthrough please explore like your’e doing, you even got a chest I didn’t get when I played it. Can’t wait for more! Papa Kratos!
Papa Kratos! I got such chills when I played this for the first time. The music for GoW has always been amazing and this addition (while obviously different) is so fitting for a more mature Kratos who is not running on hatred and a burning need for vengeance. Great start
So excited about this!! I just found you like 2 weeks ago while I was looking for a Bloodborne playthrough. Finished it in like a week and then watched your RE2 playthrough over 3 days. Probably wouldn't have ever interacted with the GOW series if it wasn't for u, but after watching you play GOW3, I am pumped to experience this franchise for the first time with you. P.S. I am very happy to see that the theme music hasn't changed on the channel over the years. (papa kratos)
Just to give you some insight, as stated by the Director and developers. Kratos is indeed holding back in the Norse games 😮💨 that first fight with the Stranger is basically Kratos just shaking the rust off..
I think when they killed that troll, Atreus was terrified. Think about it! This kid just lost his mom, and here he is facing down an enormous monster, and he might lose his dad, too. It all came out at once.
loving your GOW series man keep it up. also as another series idea you should check out the Infamous games if you haven't played them. i know you'd love em
Hyped to see you start this one. Some people started god of war here when it first came out and missed out on kratos past. I honestly love the fact you start games from the begining like this and dark souls, you'll be able to notice things you otherwise wouldnt. Awesome stuff man, can't wait to experience this one with you.
Joined back when u first started GoW 1 and been hooked watching your videos since lol Love seeing you experience these masterpieces for the first time is enjoyable af
Legit respect beating the first encounter without dying, that shit took me like 30 minutes+. But you figured out the juggle tech right quick! Bare hand is good too to build stun. Papa Kratos
Aaah! Papa Kratos. Loved to watch this masterpiece after so many years! I might even buy it again and start playing because it looked better than i remembered. Happy to be warching this journey ss well!
9:41 as soon as she starts singing I get goosebumps every time! And I have watched this scene countless times. You're in for an amazing journey, enjoy✌️
Papa Kratos and this game made me feel all kinds of feels that I didn’t know I had with all My daddy issues lol. I’m glad you loved the intro, it was one of the best intros in gaming history.
Like you, I never played the original trilogy when I was a kid (and looking at it now I wouldve loved those games so much!). But this game was amazing and made me go back and watch gameplay/vids of the originals so I understood the lore. So excited to watch this playthrough of yours and Ragnarok. Both of witch IMO up there with the best games ever made
In my experience this is the only game where leveling up and getting new moves and increasing your stat actually makes a tone of difference. Which is why I like give me a challenge or give me god of war. Because you kinda miss that in lower difficulties
