This may be a dumb question (I don't know as much about the lower-level hardware side as I'd like), but is it possible to create a "pass-thru" type GPU device specifically for benchmarkng? Basically the moment the CPU passes it data, it immediately responds "I'm done - send me more!" If something like that is possible, it could completely eliminate GPU from being a factor in CPU benchmarks. On the other side, if you could pre-work all the CPU side for, say, 5 minutes of your benchmark and just keep the raw data that gets sent to the the GPU, you could do the same for GPU testing. Just stream the data straight to the GPU as fast as it can handle, since the CPU doesn't need to process physics or other calculations beyond cramming the data into the pipeline. Again, this all may be completely impossible - just some thoughts from the programmer side, since we often use dummy code or test-functions to remove extra factors when benchmarking a specific piece of a program. :-)
