The base AyaNeo (geek) is the same configuration of the highest steam deck but just more powerful and with a better screen. The 512GB AyaNeo is $850, the 512GB Deck is $650. No where near twice the cost unless you are buying the 32GB ram, 2TB storage config.

I think based on the community, the way the developer of the deck is very open to how everything works, encourages you’d to mod it etc..the steam deck just gives a sense of comfort for someone who doesn’t know how to fix it or the comfort of being able to have tons of people to help within the community is just a big win..yea the Ayaneo might be better for performance but the steam deck is just a better buy..I bought the big one and I love it more than I thought I ever would

Steam deck is a nice middle ground between a very user-friendly console and a more open system, in my experience. Instead of a "walled garden" it's like, a fenced garden. You can climb over the fence and install some non-steam games if you want, especially if you're just using linux flatpaks, or you can stay in steamOS if you prefer.

If they focused on making the AyaNeo more user friendly, straight out the box plug & play, etc. then I think more people would be inclined to take that leap of faith & make the investment. But they need to build some trust & security in their products & services. Totally understand the pricing but for ease of use, I'd have to opt with the Switch every time, but for wider availability of gaming options & customisability, I'd go Steam Deck (although that takes a bit of finessing which isn't really accessible for people who are gamers but not really IT/tech savvy, & the two don't always go hand in hand). Interesting & helpful review, thank you!

Ayaneo isn't slowing down anytime soon, which is why I'm still waiting to buy in. I like their products (as much as anyone can without owning something from them) but they are creating a lot of buyers remorse by coming out with a better product just a few months after they sold a bunch of people something else. They still have the Ayaneo Flip and Ayaneo Slide coming out. At least they announce thier projects way ahead of time though, so you can decide if you want to wait or buy in sooner. It would be way more messed up to just spring it on people like GPD does. GPD will sell you a Win Max, then 6-7 months later, sell an upgraded model with a better APU for the same price with little to no warning. People buying the Win 4 right now will be kicking themselves 6 or 7 months from now when GPD starts selling Win 4's with Ryzen 7000 chips inside of them.

Thing is aya neo 2 needs to run ABOVE 15tdp (so more than 30 total watts, 1h more or less of battery life) in order to bypass the deck performance, and that is because at low tdps (7-8-9-10w, so 9 to 14-15w total watts, 2.30h to 6h of battery life), the deck apu is a lot more efficient and gets better performance than aya, gpd or one x player...so this means that the steam deck is a lot more efficient in a portable context, because you are going to get better performance than the others at a lower watts consumtion , with better battery life, so if you want the better balance between performance and battery life, steam deck is the better option, White if you aren't concerned about battery life and you are planning on play allways at home with the charger plugged in all the time, then you can go with the aya 2 and get better performance than the deck. Then we should talk about the company behind, updates, price etc, but those are things of common knowledge.

You're numbers are way off. The AyaNeo is about equal to the Deck's performance when both set to 15W, at 18W the AyaNeo is 10-20% better than the Deck at it's max TDP. People like to max out the Tdp but it is very overkill as you get very diminished returns above 18W. The steam deck gets much worse battery than what you are claiming. At 7W Tdp, it pulls 13W total system draw and gets a max of 3 hour battery life. Not 6 hours. "The Phawx" has a lot of good Tdp comparison videos between the Deck and the AyaNeo (and other 6800U devices).

@@cosmicgamingunlimited Lyingriotman beat me to the punch. Some GPU's start with one performance out of the box and have a completely different performance years later just because of driver updates. But not only that, since it's Valve they have influence on game development directly and there have been games that they had an hand in allowing the optimization for the deck and additionally there's a huge fan community working on programs and games to make them run better on the deck like emulation, for example. Also in hardware, going with the popular kid, often means that when you have issues you won't have a hard time finding community support when the company who releases the product ceases to support it directly, which often is an issue with high end enthusiast or more exclusive hardware from lesser known brands. Finally, the fact that Valve has control over the OS is also and advantage over Aya, since they can actually also update it and change it according to their needs as opposed to Aya who is stuck with whatever Microsoft does. In that case it's not that Aya is at fault for not supporting the device, but Valve can indeed support its device that way as well, as they have been doing and hopefully will continue to do down the line. Now, a lot of this depends on Valve's willingness to continue to support the Deck. If they stop tomorrow, a lot of these advantages would cease to exist and Valve isn't exactly known for supporting their hardware long term. I think it's different with the Deck because of how successful it became, but wouldn't be surprised if there was a rug pull. Again, Aya right now has no competition specs wise so it's not like the SD stands towering over it or anything, however there's a bunch of advantages the Deck has that can make it a better offer for many users, including myself.

Steam Deck = Best Value The other handhelds may be better in some aspects but they will never beat the Steam Deck in value for money Edit: I must add that the flexibility of the Steam Deck is unmatched… Emudeck is a godsend and to be able to start playing that fast and optimal is insane to say the least! Great video as always!
@MicrosoftGames

This. Steam Deck value position beats basically everything on the market. The controls/ergonomics are unmatched in my opinion, paired with Steam Input there is just so much you can do with it. He talks about the trackpads not being used, but once you find out you can create custom popup guis in steam, they become invaluable for a ton of games that don't do things like weapon selection wheels natively. Talking about price too, this is almost $600 more than a Steam Deck. Yes the better hardware is good, but can't really justify spending over double on it. Once you get into the nitty gritty like Emudeck and Decky it just completes the experience. Edit: I also have to add that him saying you have to "hack" the steam deck to get games from other launchers is very disingenuous as there is zero hacking involved, Valve literally gives you an open OS to install any software you want, no different then buying a laptop and installing the software you want. And also no different than the product he is reviewing. SteamOS is just a drop in replacement for Windows, that actually has way less telemetry and bloat windows comes with. Valve will not kill your Warranty for installing Heroic Games Launcher or Lutris. They even go as far as allowing people to add their own things to the gaming mode UI. Something you would never see the likes of Nintendo, Sony or in some cases Microsoft (they do allow dev mode with emulators and other software by default)

I don't know man, I still think the Switch is the better value. Unlike the Steamdeck, the Switch comes with an OLED, lots of aftermarket customization in regards to shells and joy con shells and you get Nintendo exclusives without having to steal. Trying games on it just made me want a dedicated Windows handheld more so I started looking into those 6800u ones. I went with the GPD Win 4 and it looks a whole lot like a PSP/Vita. There are for sure some hacks to make things run under Steam-OS (for example on Ubuntu my Printer runs nativley without installing any drivers), but my god, i just dont have the patience for this kind of things. The main problem with these devices is, as many other people have mentioned, the price. I managed to grab the cheapest model, the geek, for the early bird price, which set the device at about $750, and for that, I'd say it's a legitimate competitor to the highest priced steam deck at only $100 more, but there are only a limited number of those being offered so it's tough to recommend unless you get your reservation in really early.

Not just the price but what about consumer support with that price. I already had to ship my Deck back due to hardware failure (sometimes all the CPU locked to 399 mhz) and I'm thankful I had tech support on Steam. All electronics has some hardware failure and it would really suck to be the unlucky one to have hardware failure with the Ayaneo 2 and having to ship it back to China?!

@@chamoo232 Since we know they have to make a profit on the hardware unlike Valve again it going to come down to tech support as only time will tell how much they had to cut corners on the hardware. We already know pre-built desktop they often put weak PSU in them which shorten the life of the PC. I already had hardware failure with my Deck and they shipped me a new one. Valve are in a better position to deal with hardware failures since they can make it up through software sales. I still think the Steam Deck is a much safer bet right now. It's not just the cost up front but consumer support as all electronic have some hardware failure. No doubt Valve effected companies to sell their hardware cheaper so how much will this effect the long term use of these products? We know heat is the enemy of hardware and these small handheld producing more heat in a smaller space will increase the likely of hardware failure. I would guess even the Steam Deck is more likely to have hardware failure than the Switch which runs much cooler.

@@smidlee7747 Yes some companies are definitely in better position for support. I bought an Nvidia Shield Tablet like 7 years ago. After 6 months there was a recall because they found a few cases were the battery could swell and be a fire risk. I filled the form expecting to receive a prepaid shipping box to send them my tablet but what I got instead was just a brand new tablet. Turns out the software they would have us use to check if we were in the recall list also acted as a remote kill switch once we got the new tablet and went online with it. If you used the old tablet online after activating your new one it would connect to an Nvidia server and be told to brick itself. I didn't use the old tablet after I got the new one and the wi-fi was turned off so my old one never got bricked. I eventually replaced the battery in it and still used it as an offline only tablet to watch movies and stuff like that. But ya Nvidia didn't go through the trouble of collecting the recalled tablets and changing the batteries. They just shipped replacement tablets entirely.
@smidlee7747
@smidlee7747 Год назад
@@chamoo232 Also noticed the GPD Win 4 is only $800 if you buy now. Ayaneo 2 is the same way, you must buy now before the device is released or you pay more later. I know when it comes to software many kickstarters end up being abandonware. I've only saw one person reply who had an older Ayaneo over a year old the heat has started cracking the case. He said after the company moves on the newer devices they stop supporting their older devices. That's just one person not enough to go on. When I pay $800-$1500 for a desktop or a gaming laptop I'm expecting to get 4-5 years use out of it. Is that even going to be possible with the Steam Deck? (the Switch main failure is the joycons) What good to have hall sticks if the device starts dying due to heat after a year of use? At least Valve offers a way to get the Deck repaired in case I accidentally drop it after the year warranty is up. With these "kickstarter" units that comes out so often how much resources would they put in providing services after a year? There is good reason why these devices are cheaper if you buy right now before they are released.

Most of my games on Steam that I enjoy the most require a M/B, and the controller games are focus heavy. do they really require a keyboard, or is it that they only listen to keyboard input? the steamdeck input configuration is very good, so you can get good gamepad controls even from some very stubborn KB/M only games. button mapping, mouse emulation, layered control schemes, custom "item" wheels, etc. make it possible to map just about anything to the controls. i set up the entire alphabet in touchpad controls for a game because it used to have issues detecting the virtual keyboard. in another game where i use touchpads for mouse input i set layer shift buttons to switch to a quick ship switching wheel or a location wheel on the touchpads. for an mmorpg you can map wheels to entire hotbars for quick access to skills and items, even if the game doesn't have any kind of controller support.
@makoent2231
@makoent2231 Год назад
@@Marvin_R That is something I would consider, but if I had needed to buy another gamepad to map the controls, that defeats the purpose of the handheld aspect. The one big benefit to the Steamdeck I would say is that it can be plugged into a monitor or tv, so at times when Im at a hotel, I can set that up to play my Steam games, but I usually don't sit still when booked in, I need to go out more than I stay in, and the usefulness and expense of the steamdeck is outweighed by how often I would be using it. With the Switch, the games are set up already for dock mode or handheld. The expense is worth the time I can spend on it, as I travel quite a bit and I am away from home often. So its on the road or in a plane when I get the chance to play a game, as opposed to sitting in.
