I'm the oldest of 5. From 11yo to 19yo I was very much "Mom." I was the bandaid for my mother's postpartum depression and in her insane words the redemption of her childhood s**ual abuse and DIY best friend. My parents are dull-witted, lazy people. No, I don't know what it's like to earn the checks for a family of 6. I don't know how to raise 5 children. I rarely felt the impact of those checks and instead of 5 of my own kids I raised 3 of my siblings. I wish I was hyping up the work I did, maybe then I wouldn't need to stay in therapy for the rest of my life and my entire body wouldn't constantly hurt. My ONLY reservation here is that I believe the level of disgust on that woman's face implies she might be the real bitch. It's not uncommon for grandparents to be presumptive and nasty because their kids aren't doing childrearing the way they would have. A loving grandmother seems more likely to say less. What does she expect the couple to do?? Undo it because she doesn't like it? The time to talk about that is well before the last child becomes obvious.
