THIS IS CANADA 

Usa too my friend. None of my peers own a home, and we are 30. Renters for life, but refugees are given housing 🥺 $1,800 for a bad 1 bedroom here in Santa Rosa. Feels like our gov has us enslaved, we were given life to work to death. When I was 23 I had a full time job as a caregiver at Brookdale, I also worked as a corner store stocker about 4 hours a day. I used to take 3-4 antihistamine to sleep through an empty stomach. I had just gotten out of the military and shrunk down from 190 to 145 which, I’m 6ft 2”, I looked like a Holocaust survivor and didn’t qualify for food stamps. I could go on but what’s the point, we are probably in the same boat my friend. May you have better luck than I ❤️ if there was a 2nd usa I would flee there for asylum.

We should be doing much more for the homeless in Canada instead of bringing foreign refugees here and providing them with homes and all that they need. Let’s provide for our own. What is wrong with our cities and governments. Shame on them

I was lucky to get out of there and make things happen for myself. Spent 3 years in dark Victoria. I know first hand what these people are going through and it is not an easy place to escape. Most people I have met while on the streets lost work and their homes first. Your first day when you have nowhere to go, too proud to ask for help and you see you will sleep on concrete is a sinking feeling like no other. Most have lost their family, like me. The ministry will never give them back. Usually most people end up using drugs to suppress the psychological pain that is very harsh indeed. Most have no clue of the feeling of having nowhere to go. Victoria is a dark city and the homeless are preyed upon 24 7 by nasty people that find it fun to harass them. It is almost impossible to just get out of it when you are slammed down so hard and fallen victim to drugs, to just be ok. I was lucky, found my way out of that maze, but many are not so lucky..Comes a point I think when it becomes impossible to escape and one becomes stuck in a limbo effect. It wont get better, the numbers are growing. So sad :(

Thank you Krista for posting this. I have supported the homeless for the past 20 years as an outreach worker in Victoria. I am now a student at Camosun and doing a research paper on "How we can help the homeless with pets in Victoria, BC"- watching this video shows that a lot more needs to be done STILL!! Your video must have had an impact, as shelers and permanent housing is increasing gradually, still not fast enough.

Mr.Trudeau and his clan would print money and give billions to his rich friends/big corporations. Not resolving homelessness. He would annually bring hundreds of thousands of people into Canada without realizing the consequences / homelessness and housing affordability . Mr.Trudeau never understood our hardships. It's better to be a refugee. They get offered jobs and homes to come to this country. The homeless people get offered nothing. Most of the people on the street are sick and dying. First off, the comments. Excuse me what the fuck? Not ALL homeless people have drug addictions, or are "lazy" My family became homeless because we tried to get the landlords to fix our house and they refused they kicked us out because we kept asking for them to fix our rottening windows that was falling out of the wall, cockroaches, ect ect. We had to live in a pop-up camper, I can't even imagine what living in a tent is like. These poor people. And some homeless people can seem crazy. But wouldn't you when all you feel is fucking cold and trapped and no one to fucking help you?? I sure as hell did cry and scream every night because I lost my fucking right as a human being. We know of 7 families who are homeless currently and they don't do drugs or are "lazy". It's all because of covid, they've lost their jobs and to add onto it, refugees taking up housing and jobs. Sure that may seem greedy but are we really not allowed to be entitled to our own rights? Not to mention, My mother and I during being homeless we went to talk to the MLA and they said that the government is not putting the funding into the housing. They have plenty to make housing all over Canada but yet let it sit. We had the money, we are clean and quiet people and became homeless because of our horrible landlord. And the lack of housing. This can happen to anyone. How is it a mental illness to become homeless? Make it make sense. Stereotypes are old, we're 2021. Here's what I can suggest you do: Go to the MLA or mayor's office and complain. First off, Call low-income housing every day you can and complain. If your hungry, Go to the food bank or try to find out if there are other sources that have food. On cold nights/days you could put some tarps under and over your tents and insolate with blankets. Spread awareness by talking about it, sharing videos on the topic, making videos just anything. There's a place called open arms where i live, idk might have something similar they give food and help you get a house/job. When you lose your job, Lack of housing, and cant gets a job because you need a physical address in order to get a job nor welfare. HMMM, YEA I THINK YOU WOULD BE HOMELESS. EDUCATE YOURSELVES.

I'm honestly so embarrassed to be from Victoria after watching this!! That so easily could have me if the pandemic hit 3 years ago. I lived in the first tent city by the courthouse, during summer, and that was a nightmare.... at least we had food back then, staff came and fed us 2 meals a day. How can the city let it's residents live like That!? In flooded tents!!?? I hope they can figure something out.... I know most of it is mental health and addictions, they NEED more treatment options!! It took me almost 10 years and many failed attempts before I finally got and stayed clean...... but I'm sòo happy to be clean and sober.

It’s bad all across country. As an example the homeless pop due to the covid mandates doubled the amount of homeless last year. Now with inflation (I already know fam with kids living in tents as they’ve lost everything, so they aren’t all drunk/drug addicts!) expect the homeless (sleeping rough) to triple in the next year alone!

Just image if these ppl used some of shelter money they receive, for shelter! Each tenting setup was provided, they were all moved with all their belongs and given new tents, cots, sleeping bags, pillows, tarps etc. Their food, accomodations, drugs, cellphones, health care, social services, transportation, all paid for by tax payers. Then we give them $ for shelter, and disability, and welfare. So give them everything the need to live a consequence free life, and give them cash to buy their drugs, when they can't wait for their free drugs from, you guess it, tax payers

It’s because rent is now out of control, even working full time you can’t afford an apartment and to eat, it’s one or the other, Landlords are charging way to much for shitty 1bdr apartments. It ridiculous to work your ass off and be homeless

There is less population and there is no shortage of work then how can there be so much poverty? Earn 15-20 dollars per hour there people can easily rent apartment house, can even buy car I am from India, most of my country people have gone to Canada because Canada has more money than India, how How can the people there be poor?

This is sad!! There are a lot of people homeless people for different reasons. There is no cap on raising rent in Canada. Landlords can raise rent as high as they want witch is foolish. The government needs to step up and help people. I agree some people have made mistakes in life that put themselves in these situations but not everyone chooses this lifestyle. Before anyone judges we’re all one step away from homelessness. A life crisis can happen at anytime. I’m hoping these people get help.

My son was born in Texas of a Montreal born woman. We had our problems and split. She got full custody and I had my temp resident perment revoked for not being French enough in local (champlain) Their is no recourse. When moms kids born abroad have automatic citizenship and fathers get messed with like that ... it boils down to state sponsored parental kidnapping. Dads could do the same thing too. Regardless the law as it stands is built to seperate familes. I am one of the lucky ones, me and my partner have mostly made up and are civil these days...some fathers have never seen their children not out of lack of want but because they wernt Canadian and their partner was.

U can't rely on the government to take care of u, no matter whichever country u live in. And in majority of the people who become homeless r those who have little to no financial knowledge. U should always take accountability for ur own actions and strive to make urself better.

It won't help kids in high school right now but if we can start within 2 years there's hope for younger and those coming up. There should be a teaching assistant (TA) in every classroom from grade 1 through 12. In every elementary school there should be a Child and Youth Worker (CYW) for each grade and in high school there should be 1 or 2 for each grade depending on student population. We can't have mentally and emotionally healthy adults if our children aren't mentally and emotionally healthy. We also need school lunches - hot ones in winter.

So let me get this right comment section just so im clear we are fine with our taxes paying to house inmates literal murderers child predators etc. But whine about taxes helping the homeless. Yea go off i guess hypocrites.

I´m really not sure what shocked me more, the documentary or some of the comments here. To those I recommend Gabor Maté´s book "In the realm of hungry ghosts". Hopefully it´ll provide some understanding on the reasons for addiction and lead to COMPASSION. It´s the system that´s sick not the people who are desperately trying to cope the best way they can.

I don't know about BC, but here in Québec, anyone can sit in an hospital emergency room, 24/7, and will not be harassed or ask to leave. In reality, they will ignore you just like all the sick and injured people around you. If you need to sleep, il will take you 3 minutes to find a room with a clean bed innocupied. Again, they won't come to your room more than they come to the room of some patient in need of assistance. Plenty of videos about that and more on RU-vid.
