The biggest problem that I'm seeing in more and more churches every day is that they are switching from the KJB and taking up the Alexandrian critical text manuscripts which Eusebius of Cesaria and Origen of Alexandria both said were altered before the second century. The majority texts from the original Greek manuscripts in Antioch do not have those copyist errors because there have been so many of them found that comparing them against each other increases their accuracy to the original manuscripts, which are barely found any more, except for small fragments. People claim that the Egyptian manuscripts are older and better, but they are only older because they have not been circulated nearly as much as the Antioch Syria Received Text manuscripts, so they didn't have to get copied at a later date.

I saved in October 1980, and one of the things that I did was go and buy myself an exhaustive concordance, a Bible dictionary, and The Wycliffe Bible Commentary, plus a KJV Bible - all to study God’s Word. …2 concordance these days. But my biggest dream was to go to Bible school at 32. Then, I started online classes at the age of 66, finished at the age of 70, and went back again at the age of 72 now for a Master of Arts degree in Christian Counseling. I am halfway through the course of study five to go of 12 classes.

Good tools all. I got my degree in Biblical Studies three years ago at age 71, but I started at age 43 or so. If you can afford it commentaries are useful as well as books on Greek and Hebrew cultures dating Jesus’ era. Time-charts and biblical atlases are useful tools. If you can handle languages, they can be difficult, those are helpful too. Learning is ever ongoing as our understanding grows. The Holy Spirit does guide us from time to time, but study requires time and patience. You will never have enough of everything but enjoy what you do! Be careful of internet learning for every preacher is subject to their denominational and seminary leanings. Once you feel grounded explore variations on thought offered by opposing thoughts, but carefully, for there is much false and mistaken teaching out there. Scripture can often be twisted and distorted by wrong hermeneutical approach. By the way, congratulations on your Graduation!

I heard a pastor recentlysay that the Bible was written for us but not to us. So we need to account for who said what and to whom. It still makes it all relevent but makes taking it out of context really easy. I don't trust ministers that just pick and choose a verse here and there and on top of it feel the need to do it using different translations as to make their sermon teach what they want it to rather then what the Bible actually said and meant.

Not many people have the materials necessary for hermeneutical studies. Not many, if any church, can take the time to offer studies in this activity. I appreciate the Bible’s that have an introductory passage giving historical, cultural (if necessary), and thematic outlines. This helps to remind us of context and content and prevents the hop/skip type of preaching that passes for preaching today. We also must remember that all biblical literature is not the same, there are gospels, prophetic books, historical, even wisdom literature. So not all the same rules apply in every situation. The old maximum is not to read the Bible, but to study the Bible. Hermeneutics gives us the tools to do so.
@star007ify
@star007ify 4 месяца назад
Those with access to the internet are blessed with the proper free hermeneutical tools in abundance. This has been my experience. I have found free access offline as well because I have made it a priority to do so. So it really comes down to a person's priorities. Churches need to find the time to offer studies in this activity. Churches should not only be open on Sunday mornings. That is a fatal flaw of much of the modern church. I'd argue that they do have the time since it is their primary responsibility to disciple and teach their congregation. Perhaps the church needs to evaluate its priorities as well.

As I agree with much of what is said in this video, I don't think many of these teachers follow the rules they are spelling out as they are all Calvinist, so many of the things they say are good ideas in understanding the bible. But the Hypocrisy of men like RC (God rest his soul) and others in this Video these rules of interpretation don't seem to apply to them when they teach the heresy of Calvinism.. The passage in John 3:16 is a prime example, (mentioned several times) God so loved the World (All of us) that He gave is one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life..the whosoever is again "All of us", not a select few as Calvinism teaches. They (Calvinist) rip passages out of context to teach a destructive doctrine of "limited atonement" "Irresistible grace" and several other false doctrines not found in the pages of the Bible..if you're not familiar with Calvinism, look it up, it is NOT biblical Christianity.

I've been watching Wretched off and on for some time now and enjoy some of what Todd says but really this is bad. I've enjoyed his stuff but this video makes no sense. A lot of the questions in this video won't work in understanding the Old Testament. Let's look at this one: "Thus says the LORD: “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more.”" Je 31:15. This passage is in the book of Jeremiah. But it's also quoted in the book of Matthew: "Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying: “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.”" Mt 2:17-18. Now if after we watched this video we took all these questions into consideration, we would not come up with the same conclusion the writer of Matthew did. The passage in Jeremiah was a prophecy. And in Matthew the Bible says, "Then was fulfilled..." So which is greater? The time, place, people, culture and history of the Jeremiah passage or what the passage is actually referring to in the future (which is to say the time of Matthew)? Also, the physical writer is always a person. Jeremiah was a real, historical, physical person. But the Words are God's. Some times God is talking and some times Jeremiah is talking. But the Spirit of God was in them, 10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 1 Pe 1:10-11. But anyways, there are many, many more passages that cannot be interpreted as the writers in the NT have if we go along with the content in this video.

Zionism is the biggest set of errors alive today. Christians hae been bewitched by another Gospel. For example, the Israel that Paul was writing about in Romans 9-11 was not today's Israel but the one that had been divorced and sent into captivity up around Europe 777 years before Paul wrote Romans in 57 AD.

We’re not apostles. As much as we’d like specific revelation (and as many seem to think that authority has been passed down to them…), the main things I try to remember is that the Holy Spirit witnesses to the work of Christ (1st John), that the Word is our infallible source from God (2nd Timothy 3:16/17 and plenty more verses), and that “All shall know you are My (Jesus’) disciples by this, that you love one another.” John 13:35 That doesn’t settle the argument, but it keeps the conversation humble.

Getting away from the pagan doctrines of Rome, "church fathers," councils, creeds, etc. is absolutely essential for a proper interpretation of the Word of God. Neither Catholicism nor Protestantism is compatible with Scripture. This is why priests and protestant preachers treat the Bible like a buffet: take what you like and leave what you don't! Virtually every time Scripture disproves heretical doctrines, the person supporting such heresies will resort to the excuse of "the church fathers said," or "the council settled this issue." If it isn't compatible with what Jesus and the Apostles taught and believed, it's unbiblical -- plain and simple! God is merciful, and desires to make our relationship with Him more perfect!

Apostolic succession, and infallibility are huge contra-biblical errors that should be expunged from any ecclesiastical gathering. The apostles replaced their number (Paul was different) from the other 70, that somehow remain forgotten by most, and the apostles weren't sinless or infallible. Paul and Peter had failings and quarreled, the churches they started weren't clean and pure so they didn't get any "apostolic succession" in their lifetimes, Judas was a bag of crap, etcetera. How these things can be overlooked to generate and sustain networks of money laundering child molesters is beyond me.... but if they're infallible then I'm wrong? Also Constantine was the first Pope, a pagan that warped ecclesiastical authority to incorporate paganism and serve Rome, by threat of excommunication or death. All the sycophants and me-monsters that took part in the bracketed tournament (like sports) for imperial favor were antichrists, anyone groveling to that "magisterium" and the continual stack of obligatory creeds is also flawed if not an antichrist. Seriously Rome uses pagan Roman religious and regal titles, the Pope is satan's caesar and the protestants that do similar on their own accord (they want their own money pool safe from Rome) and then cry for ecumenicalism amongst them and Rome, corrupted Zionist (but not really for Zion and absolutely hostile to Jesus) Israel and the Muslims ain't for gatekeeper to heaven Christ .... maybe not at all. Jesus said to keep the pharisees leaven away from the loaf, to refuse the burden of extra scriptural doctrines by earthly gatekeepers that direct laypersons to hell. That didn't authorize anyone to "build back better" after Jesus demolished them.

Then class goes like this: Explain who the letter was written to, why the author seemed to need to write it, and how the church may have interpreted it. I then tell the class to imagine that they are the people the letter was written to (or in the case of the two to Timothy), they are Timothy. I then read it in its entirety. Then we discuss. Hermeneutics requires a correct translation of the verse to achieve a correct understanding. John 3:16 is incorrectly translated in the KJV and other editions, although the CSB and NET Bible have corrected the mistranslation. John 3:16 says: "In this manner, God loved the world that he gave his only son so that all who believe in him may not perish but may have eternal life." The true purpose of this passage is not to show the quantity of God's love but to show the great quality of God's love. Furthermore, God's love is perfect and perfection cannot be augmented. There is no higher love than a perfect love. Thus, adding the word "so" makes no sense and at best it is redundant or irrelevant. God's perfect love cannot be more perfect than it already is.

Here’s a thought-How about we apply this to 1 Corinthians 11:2-16? Paul was writing to “all men everywhere who call on the name of the Lord,” about a practice that symbolically represented the creation order-Paul mentions nothing about culture. 🤔 And, the church practiced it until feminism swept through the west… which, to me, is a big red flag. 🚩

A fantastic way to do Bible study that I have found is to copy scripture out word for word in a notebook. You can copy scripture on one page and leave another page for notes. You will engage with the bible in an incredible way, and you'll more easily remember context and arguments or teaching that may stretch across multiple chapters. It also slows you down enough that you won't skip over words like "because" or "therefore", which so often can cause confusion when read out of context. Literally spending 30 minutes a day like that will transform your love for the Bible.

Thomas Nelson publishes "Bible journals" like this. I have a couple. They have the Bible text on the left pages (even-numbered) and the right side pages are all blank, lined. Zondervan makes something similar, but exactly every other "blank" page has a large section of notes, commentary, etc. on it that removes some of the purity.

Unfortunately, there are those dishonest folk out there who intentionally misquote and misrepresent the Word to suit their own agenda's; and yes, that includes Christians as well! Remember what 1 Corinthians 3:19 and 1 Corinthians 1:25-30 says: the wisdom of the world is foolishness for the Lord. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 and Isaiah 5:20 also warns us about this, which is why we need to pray and meditate on the Word, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us.

This is great knowledge of rightly reading and understanding the Word of God; yes we must know the context in which the author was dealing during those times. The only thing we must never forget is the other side of the coin that the Originator (Author)of the Word of God is the Holy Spirit, this means that His Word transcends throughout generations and generations. So The Holy Spirit knew exactly what was needed to be written on the things that were seen, said and actions from the apostle’s ministries and Jesus Christ’s ministry, etc..which will apply to generations to come. The Holy Spirit, he is thoughtful and caring that he thought of us and put together His Word in way that we can put our faith in Him because of His Word.

I disagree with your approach and teaching on learning the BIBLE. The BIBLE is inspired by GOD's Holy Spirit so that all that we read is from GOD and HIS Holy Spirit and contains the message GOD wishes us to understand and learn and the actual author is irrelevant because it is not he but it GOD ALMIGHTY speaking through him. GOD is Speaking and NOT the authors. They are only the instrument GOD used to convey HIS message otherwise all we read is Human interpretation of what they saw and heard and experienced in knowing JESUS and the rest of their feelings are nonsense. You BIBLE school students and teachers go to pathetic lengths to make yourselves seem more important than everyone else. God is testing you to see if you LOVE HIM. We are not to disobey and rebel against God. The deceiver disguises himself as an angel of light, his nickname is the Lawless One and His children are called SONS OF DISOBEDIENCE. Read Deuteronomy 30 to see what brings our Messiah back. ? People in America today have no clue what it was like living just 150 years ago (let alon 2000) before the technology explosion. And well-meaning preachers so often fail to realize what it was like for my gradma growing up in a sod dugout in northern New Mexico. So, they criticize the move of the Holy Spirit Himself to open the understanding of the scriptures to reveal that the Bible from cover to cover is all about Jesus and a personal relationship with him paid for by the his sacrifice. Digging into scriptures, believers also uncovered that Jesus condemns the lack of faith that doubting Thomas's have toward Bible promises. Since then many believers have repented of their unbelief, the kind of unbelief that kept the Isrealites following Moses 40 years in the wilderness never reaching the promised land. Christians in my grandma's lifetime started believing that God supplies all of their needs according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus. For this and because America blessed Jews impacted by the holocaust, technology has exploaded making America the most blessed country in the world, spilling over to non-Christian unbelievers and even doubting Thomas's.

An amazing thing is most preachers don't know who Judah and Israel are today, and where do they live today. If you do not know the answer you will not understand who Jesus was speaking to when he said, "I am not sent but unto the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel". Clue, they are the most blessed people on the Earth today. They, we are the people of the North America, the Anglo Saxon people, from Europe to Britain and to all our brother nations. If you don't know this you can't understand Jesus, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. You will never understand Paul and who he was talking too. He was talking to his kinsmen. Jesus was/is our Kinsman Redeemer, he did not come to redeem any other people on Earth, just Israel, both Israel and Judah. And you can't undersand anything unless you go to the Old Testament from where Jesus quoted and all the Apostles quoted, they wrote the New Testament, they did not have any other reference. Oh God just loves me! Did you know God turned and fought against Israel?

If the Bible text itself does not provide its own true interpretation such as Jesus explaining his words in John 6 are spiritual or the angel explaining Daniel's visions of animals meaning kings/kingdoms, then the default interpretation is to just believe and live by the literal dictionary meaning of the words. I'm not talking about Webster, I mean the Strongs Concordance biblical dictionary of the original language words which provides all the possible meanings of words in cultural/historical context of the Bible and shows you plenty of other examples where that original language word is used in other Scriptures so you can see for yourself that the meanings are rooted in Scriptural consensus. That is why the KJV is so important, it's *the* English Word of God that exclusively has his hallmark of approval and the translation by which most other false, satanic translations are derived from and/or steal from such as the NIV/NASB/ESV/etc.

Respectfully, I must say that you are teaching me about the author of the gospel of John, and you don't seem to understand that the author is God himself. And trust me, you're not alone! This is why bible teachers, and pastors have been inconsistent and confusing to the bible student. So as the student grows in the Word, they too, teach the same heresy. And so on. It seems not to dawn on teachers that the first principal of Bible interpretation (Hermeneutics) is that ALL scripture is credited to God himself, not to John or Paul, or whoever. (2Tim 3:16-17) They were merely vessels used to dictate the Word of GOD! (Jer 36:4-6) God did NOT write the gospel of John so we can get a better understanding of John's personality, but so we can be introduced more to the personality of Christ. Even though I know you're aware of that, you and many, many bible teachers do not teach it. A grave mistake! So a faithful bible student, comparing all scriptures to harmonize the Word, understanding that this is God speaking to me, NOT John speaking, and understanding that the Bible (original text) is without error, and is the only true thing we have n this world, and approaching it with awe and reverence, with NO pre-conceived ideas, so that I let the Word teach me, the Holy Spirit will guide you in to truth. Many don't do this, so they are left in confusion, and most Bible teachers don't help a bit. Sadly, it's also my opinion that this is one of the reasons God wrote 1 Pet 4:17.

And yet, they misinterpreted Jn 3.16 which is not talking about heaven or hell, but about entering the kingdom (millennial reign) or not, which is what scripture is all about. Nicodemus was inquiring about the kingdom (as were many who sought out Jesus) and how to enter it, Jn 3.5, not salvation by grace. Perish means to be in the 2nd death for 1K years outside the kingdom, not hell forever.

The scriptures are clear that God, through the Holy Spirit, is the author, 2 Tim 3:16-17 and 2 Pet 1:21. The book of John testifies that Jesus is the living Word of God present during creation. The entire Bible from Genius to Revelation is the revealing of Jesus. The book of Daniel declares prophesies were addressed only to people of the end time to understand. Revelation declares itself as the revelation of the resurrected Jesus Christ. And, Revelation declares to the Laodician church that understanding of scriptures requires anointed eyes, not carnal minds nor scientific logic. You seem to be inches from falsely declaring, like some preachers, that the Bible is the word of men simply because men were used as instruments of conveying it.

It is interesting how people try to twist John 3:16 and Romans 6:25 to be about geography when, in fact, they are about condition. And they both juxtapose eternal life with death. It's not complicated, but so many people feel the need to inject a conscious tormenting in a fictitious place called "hell" into the equation. I don't get it. I used to buy into that but it was because I was young and just believed what a more senior believer told me. And then I bothered to study it...

The "irony" of this video is that we actually need material and data "outside" the Bible to fully and completely understand the biblical text. On the flip side, one can read the outdated KJV translation, and without any other material helps, that person can gather more than enough clearly articulated material to properly, effectively and fruitfully live out the Christian life. It's all a matter of desire. If you gave anyone on this earth any passage in the Bible, and said, "Hey, take this home, and study this text for a week, and if you can tell me what it means, I'll give you a million dollars." Nearly every single person would most certainly accomplish that task. :)

I think the fact that there are over 900 different versions of the bible in English is a big problem. Try doing a bible study in a group where everyone has a different version. You can easily get different interpretations. Only English has so many translations. Spanish and French have massively less and the rest of the languages even less again. So, presumably, they would have less occasion to misinterpret. Then, of course, you have preacher/ teachers who take verses out of context whereby no amount of correct translation is going to help. Some comments here have suggested the Holy Spirit is required for proper understanding. But who determines which spirit a person is using. I would suggest that it's not always the Holy Spirit.

Act 10:28 - And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. Act 11:19 - Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only. Gal 2:7 - But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; 8 - (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) 9 - And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

All very good up to a point but this approach still wouldnt meet the standards of the writers, Paul in particular. if you want to be sure you have the right view then follow the same rules as Rabbi Saul of Tarsus was trained in and always followed- ( Thats Paul in case you missed it) - he was the star student of Rabbi Gamaliel of the school of Hillel. The rules of Hillel are a systematic approach that includes the things spoken of here ( using other words however) but goes further. Look into it for yourself, the rules are easy to search on google and not hard to grasp especially with the help of the Spirit. This method was also respected by how Jesus uses the OT scripture and so if we ignore them it is just too easy to forget this is primarily a Jewish book for a Jewish audience written with assumptions you know Jewish things from childhood.... your approach here fails to guard against a platonic or western world view bringing its assumptions about things. I have been following this way since I was first saved and it never lets me down.

Um, I agree with the overall premise that the Bible must be studied properly, but some of the teachers presented in this video, ironically, promote the false doctrine of limited atonement. It's the extreme opposite of setting up your chairs in a circle and having everyone tell you what they personally "think" a passage means. Drilling deeper than the Spirit has revealed in Scripture and fabricating an enormously thick and refined doctrinal statement that has become "the teachings of men", is to be equally exposed and condemned.

I have to say that many public speaking Christian pastors use this accent that is immediately recognized. The main pastor does it here also. Why? God tells the believer NOT to act in a way that presents God poorly to the unbeliever. A pastor doing this is responsible for the flock that should have grown. This odd way that pastors like this speak is doing a disservice to God. 4:30 example 5:28. I think an unbeliever that would be interested enough by the title would click on this and would immediately turn it off. Just listen to the question at the start of this video and view it as if you didn't really believe but were finding life unfulfilling.
