Hey guys, this video was A LOT to take in 😂. I loved the high energy and the colourful imagery, but I’m sure there’s more to it than what meets the eye. Let me know what you guys think. 💜
you have already got my opinion on wat this song means but to say it again bts are basically saying you can call them whatever you like but it wont stop them from being themselves and for loving themselves either
To further explain Idol, here’s an explanation about a few parts: RM uses the three Snapchat-like filters because it’s a reference to the criticism he got for wearing filters while live-streaming on VLIVE. This is also when V wears glasses, someone previously called him ugly for wearing glasses on a VLIVE. Obviously, they do this to embrace the fact that people can say whatever bad things they want about them, but they won’t stop loving themselves no matter what others say about them. Also, where Jungkook does that small cough, it’s in reference to the Yangban, who were the elite class in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. Yangban would cough indiscreetly and silence those around them, which is why Jungkook did it as a way that hes silencing the haters - with a smile. To answer your question about the rabbit in the moon, it’s as well a reference to a Korean folktale in which god honored a selfless rabbit by placing it in the moon. The rabbit also symbolizes immortality. In this case, BTS relates themselves as the rabbit, referring to the criticism they’ve faced. In addition to the tiger that zooms past Jimin’s face, it is a sacred animal in Korean culture, symbolizing the country. It’s also thought as a guardian against foes. At the end where everyone is dancing, the members join ARMY in supporting themselves. Hope this cleared some things up! Love your videos and your reactions are the best 😊 keep doing what you’re doing! And happy birthday 🎉🎊
Yes! I'll just add some stuff I've thought of and heard of (there were so many during the video but I forgot most lol), in case she sees this. - About the bunny, yeah, it's like they're saying that at this point they're just immortal, because they've gone through so much hate and criticism - never going to surrender to the haters. - The many heads that surround Jimin at one point: These show that there are so mnay things that make us who we are - we're not just one thing. Like RM says in his UN speech (I'm paraphrasing), we make mistakes all the time, but they're all part of us. Yesterday's and today's me is me. And tomorrow's me is still me, even if I grow and change. Definitely watch that speech, it's very inspiring! I can't do it any justice. - Them in a cage, and a shark tries to eat them up: This basically shows that no matter how big the "threat", they're untouchable at this point, because they won't let haters affect them anymore. They're so tight as a group and with the fans, that nithing can destroy that anymore. - The overproduced/super colourful style of the music video: They've faced criticism about being "so overproduced" as a group, that this is them being like haha in your face we'll show you overproduced. There are ton of Korean cultural references (watch the Idol mv explained -video by DKDKTV so learn about all that) with all the animals, some dance moves etc. Those are there because they were criticised by the Korean industry about being too Western (salty people being jealous that they blew up outside the country, all around the world), so here they're like yeah right, we're fully Korean and proud of that. Basically the extra af style of this mv is to exaggerate everything that they've been criticised about to show that we don't care, we're who we are. Celebrating themselves and their culture! This mv and it's message overall ties in with their campaign at the time. Idol is in the third and last album of the Love Yourself trilogy. In the first album, LY: Her, they've talked about a love that feels like destiny (example song: DNA). The second album, LY: Tear has talked about how that love with a person has grown to silence one's true self (example songs: Fake Love and Singularity). This third album, LY: Answer, realizes that we should love ourselves first, because that is neccessary in order to be able to love someone else (example songs: Idol and Epiphany). So this is not just a "ha I'm great and successful haters gonna hate I'm the best I don't care about y'all"-type of song, but truly about appreciating and loving yourself despite your mistakes and imperfections. 💜 Just makes the song so much more meaningful!
Honestly there's so much in this video that it's impossible to explain everything! J-hope wearing the bunny shirt cause people call him childish. The drawings, etc. I don't know if any explanation video has managed to fit everything. It'd be hours long. I feel like BTS and BigHit just sat down at a table like okay let's list every single piece of hate or criticism, and let's clapback to them all in this single MV.
Please don't miss the 2019 mma live performance...it's such a bighit! And..can yo do a bts reaction everyday cause i enjoy watching your reactions so much...💜️💜️💜️
Happy Birthday!!! The members drew the drawings at the beginning. Jimin did one and Jin did the other. This was one of their final songs to all their haters about the fact that they love themselves no matter what they call them. Hope you had a great day even though we are in difficult times right now. Love your videos!
you have to react "Bts-Idol explained by a Korean" by DKDKTV if you want to know the meaning behind the pictures and other visuals in MV. Please, I really want you to understand more. Oh, and btw in the beginning of your videos about bts, many army asked u to react bts "from nobody to legend", I'm sure many army waiting for it
im impressed she can already tell which one is who so damn fast lol..when i 1st got into bts,i only can tell Rm and J-Hope face while the others takes around 3 weeks for me to finally can tell them apart easily
This song was stuck in my head when I heard it and it was helpful in shoving me down the rabbit hole. I love the song but once I got deeper into the fandom and understood exactly what they were saying with this particular MV - it was brilliant. It goes to show you don't need to be rude or use overtly foul language to roast someone because this song does exactly that while being an anthem for self love. Although the Love Yourself era is over I hope they will continue to perform Idol now and again since their is something magical about hearing 60,000 people shouting, "You can't stop me loving myself!"
Aww I hope you had a great Birthday! This song is so great to workout to! 💪🏻 I can’t wait for you to start watching their funny videos that fans make like “BTS being extra AF in America” I die every time. 😂
I love how your eyes just light up when you're watching them. It reminds me of when I first discovered BTS.💛💛💛 it's so nice to relive the feeling with you, love your channel by the way
The hidden messages in this mv are insanely A LOT. Each scene has like 2 or 3 details that refer to certain meanings. You need to watch the explanation video to understand them. Even the outfits has meaning, n they are related to the dances as well. This is the most sophisticated mv they have ever made, in my opinion.
you cant even imagine this live here in Brasil i swear that the superior seats was trembling when they started idol, I LOVED SCREAMING YOU CANT STOP ME LOVING MYSELF AND THINKING THAT I WAS GOING TO DIE AT THE SAME TIME
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 💖 wish you the best 😊 I loved this reaction omg, people are never ready to watch this lol You should react to Idol live and the dance practice like you did for Mic Drop! I love your videos!!!
Happy birthday!!! 💜💜💜Purple you always, stay safe and i wish you to have a beautiful day🤗🙂☺️💜 I love your reactions. They make me smile everytime😊 The pictures in the background that you mantioned was drawn by the members for the video😂. And they change their hair colour for every video what i think is very cool😍
Happy Birthday 🥳 Your reactions are so cute and I love watching them. You should check out the Idol - Explained video by DKDKTV, it’s an amazing video and explains some of the elements that they included from their culture and hidden elements that you mentioned.
Girl, you are a NATURAL at this. If I didn’t know better, I would think you were a professional tuber whose been at it for years. Your comments and opinions clearly show that you’re observant and a quick study. I love how you play parts of the video when you refer to them at the end because it helps to know which parts exactly that you’re talking about. I keep apologizing for any redundancy, but I’m just getting on board Chui Chui train and I started from your first video so I could go this journey WITH you. It’s like reliving my own journey, but I get to share that new ARMY excitement WITH someone, so again....I apologize for any redundancy and let me pretend I’m right with you on the journey until I catch up! I promise it won’t take long because your videos are addicting! I stayed up ALL NIGHT a few nights ago, binging your reactions. I jumped ahead a bit on a couple of videos, but decided it was more fun to go in the order you did so I COULD relive the BTS journey. If my comments get to be too much, feel free to tell me to STFU until I catch up, lol! Love ya, Ms. Chui!
Happy Birthday, beautiful!😍 I love your reaction to BTS and you're very genuine about it. I'm 47 yo and I love these boys so much. The humble, grounded, and their music has meanings and heals millions of people.
As for the "oh oh oh," I DID warn you on your DNA video: "That was the best la la la I've ever heard." Girl, you ain't heard nothing yet. They have 10 distinct la la la's in 9 different songs (as well as "oh oh oh" in 4, "na na na" in 4, and "big house big cars big rings" in 3 - though that last is all Suga). Also, I haven't seen anyone else mention this, so I'll let you know: they've put tons of art, culture, and philosophy references in their work, and it's all but confirmed that the glass "aquarium" they're dancing in with the shark in the background is a reference to Damien Hirst's “The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living," since we know RM visited somewhere with another piece in the same series and tweeted about it, saying "Hi Hirst" in the caption. Also, it's possible the giant BTS in the background later in the MV is a sort of literal "Attack on Bangtan," which is one of their earlier songs that's partially a reference to Attack on Titan (one line goes, "Who are we? We swallow everything without fear").
u absolutely have the best memory!! u remember so much details from past videos. IM LOOKING FORWARD TO U GETTING INTO THE STORYLINE ITS GONNA BE SO FUN🤩💜
first i want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR CUTE RACHEL💜 when i watch your reaction i shake my shoulders Without feeling them and i say omg what am i doing 😂 i love your react to bts and finally i want to say that i love u so much
Fun fact, not a long after this song came out they colaborated with mattel. And the dolls wearing outfit same like in the video... So its kinda concept for the upcoming things after the big album. That's why I assumed that somethings about to gong on based from the ON mv? We'll see
the rabbit on the moon in Korea means prosperity .The shark part represents the haters trying to attack them but they can't because bts are inside the aquarium (that also looks like a cellphone scren) protected from all the sea of hate they are subjected to. (Sorry for bad english)
i'm into the idol lyrics so bad and oh oh oh oh part is on my head everyday!💜 btw, i really love ur genuine reaction and i love you rachel.💜 you nice keep going.
I really enjoy watching you reacting to bts mvs/content, and I think you would enjoy listening to their older songs like Spring Day or Run. And happy birthday!
I just can't stop smiling like an idiot through your whole video. I'm so proud of these boys while watching your reaction made me almost cry and happy. Thank you for this and I hope to see more of you soon.
Idol is a great choice to get to know BTS. The love yourself era is amazing. The thought that these guys gained the love of so many people and gave us songs promoting self love is just overwhelmingly beautiful. 💜💜🔥🔥🌎
Happy Birthday!! I just found your channel and you've been seeing my comments so I hope you'll recognize me :) I just wanted to say you're super sweet and bubbly and I love following your BTS journey! Please watch more of their MVs! There's so many... Boy With Luv, Fake Love, Not Today, Spring Day, Blood Sweat and Tears are some of the major ones!
Hiiii Chiu So I wrote something for army and bts As you are army now so it's for you too ......................... There was pain and sorrow in there eyes.
