I disagree (with a qualifier, T.B.A.). I graduated college in the 1980s. What I had in front of me was just-in-time auto manufacturing, new-fangled IBM and Apple IIe computers that were functionally desktop ornaments, a pocket full of change for pay phones, and living anywhere in the USA was an option. That was my world at graduation. If I was graduating today? My military service of choice would be the US Space Force. My location of choice would be Red-State only. And my business of choice would be robotics. I think the IDEA of featuring Robotics/AI in this way is great. Robotics & AI are a big part of the world in front of today's college grads. Now, for the qualifier: if, ONLY IF, it is not used as just another vehicle for woke leftist messaging, it is good. Only IF, the programming of the algorithms wasn't "WU" woke un-intelligence, but "AI," ACTUAL intelligence. Like any tool, whether it is good or bad depends on the person holding it.

What is wrong with people is that there are many robots among the graduates. That's what our universities churn out: compliant little robots.

​@@AtariDadnot so sure. I'm a developer and I've implemented multiple AI systems recently. To give them a real sense of emotion would make them exponentially more volatile, because their processing hierarchy would have to assign some experiential value based on their emotional perception (or imitation thereof), and emotions inevitably cloud judgement/logic. The fake pleasantries may be unsettling because we know they're fake, but it's basically the same as the old robots saying, "Please stay on the line. Your call is important to us."

@@stephenr85 I'd say that your assessment is largely correct at our current level of technology, but I kind of have a feeling that computing and processing of the future is probably going to be a lot different than it is today. I'm not just talking about quantum computing either, I'm also considering the possibility that we one day might some day have the means to create a computer every bit as complex as the human brain. I'm largely a believer in the idea that everything that's possible in nature is possible in a laboratory, so who's to say that we won't one day have the means to replicate the complexity of human thought and emotion artificially?

@@AtariDad Complexity is one thing, but that little spark that makes it an actual 'individual' is very unlikely. Although, for most people they probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Even if they bothered to look.
