That flashlight uses 1 of the same 2170 cells that make up the Rivian battery pack. The battery pack contains 7,776 of the 2170 type cells so they wanted to use one more to make 7,777 cells in total so came up with the flashlight. Also, the lock/unlock chirp was an actual recording of a bluebird here in Yellowstone National Park. Nice touch and much less noise pollution compared to how many vehicles use the loud horn to signal. This chirp, or a separate electronic sound, is much better than car horns going off all around you in a parking lot, parking garage, trailhead or campground.
@Kulric
@Kulric Год назад
From what I have seen online, the flashlight actually has an 18650 in a holder. Maybe they intended to use a 2170 but in the end went with the smaller battery.

@@GuyWithTheDogs That is what we do with all our vehicles (turn off the unneeded audio alert for locking/unlocking doors with fob), but most do not so I'm always VERY thankful when manufacturers use an audio alert that is less intrusive (like the Rivian chirp or some vehicles fairly quiet beep) rather than having the car horn sound as the alert.

I also have a Landcruiser and not sure where the similarities are aside from cruising range which is not great for either. Toyota is typically 10 years behind in tech and this vehicle is 10 years in the future. These pop-out door handles are missing a massive, simple feature: a hook. Just a small hook on the back for you to be able to get a real grip would make a huge difference in feel. Biggest difference it would make, though, is it would help kids open their rear doors. They need the help with leverage on a door that is too high for them to get a good pull.

Not sure about the rivian. But the Tesla model 3 charge port door is heated and doesn’t freeze shut. The model 3 has a similar door handle to the rivian (but is manual, doesn’t self present like the Rivian). Those can freeze, but the door can be opened from the app on the phone in those conditions. As long as the door itself isn’t frozen shut (happens on all cars in cold climates likes ours), the app will pop open the driver door regardless if the handle is frozen. I don’t know if Rivian has something like this, I can only speak to the Model 3.

In the forums, several have already experienced headlights getting dangerously covered while driving when it's snowing. This isn't unique to Rivians. LED lights are great for brightness, but not great while snowing as the headlights tend to get covered with snow and your light output decreases quickly. Needs to be some solution implemented because getting out and manually wiping them off every 5 or 10 minutes isn't reasonable or safe.

But so far everything i am seeing, particularly with towing, your range is drastically shortened. To me, they are all just around town vehicles, even if it has off road capability. I would hate to be 20 plus miles away from town, go off roading for the day, camp that night, and then try to make it back to town to re-charge. love the rivian, but it's so expensive. Also just rented a tesla and realize I really hate how almost everything is done on the touch screen for these electric cars. Can be very tedious if you want to adjust something on the fly, and is honestly kind of overwhelming trying to find different settings for everything. Like changing the a/c and heat you have to find and switch to that screen, than a different screen for mirrors, and a different screen for the radio. It involves a lot of looking at the screen and not the road vs the traditional way of doing a lot of these things where you don't really have to put much focus on those things. Also something a lot of ppl might not care about but locking the car door when you get inside, that's another screen as far as I could tell. Not ideal if you're a cautious person or find yourself in a situation where you need to keep someone else out

All controls in 1 central location will be expected and appreciated and even easy to conform to by those that follow in our footsteps. But I agree with you, decades of driving standard control locations being removed is disconcerting. What we have for memory control on automatic now has to be re-wired to try and adapt to a whole new way of inputing adjustments. However, in theory, these things should be set before one is driving and thus does not require us to just reach over and make changes on the fly.

Where is the equivalent SUV that cost $40K instead of $100K? Leave all the cool but unnecessary features out of the vehicle and it will cost a lot less. I don’t need cameras, sensors, actuators, motors to move my door handles, vents, seats, frunk and hatch. I don’t need autonomous driving at any level, I want to drive. I don’t need or generally want a touch screen blasting light at me so I can adjust a million things that are mostly unnecessary and not have buttons, knobs or sliders for the things I do want to adjust fairly often. Give me the functionality of a 1970s base bronco or blazer in a modern electric platform and some air bags and I’m good.

I wouldn't consider a vehicle with no switches; having everything on a touch screen helps only the manufacturer. Also, it looks like a trolleybus.

I do not like that there are no E outlets in the back. I'd like to see a bank of 4 outlets. I want to cook using them. A toaster oven and an electric skillet, and I could whip out a meal while camping

Technically speaking, Level 3 charging doesn't exit. It's actually DC Level 2 - SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Standard J1772 charging. According to Professor John Kelly, Weber State University Automotive Technology.

I love this and the R1T, but for me to be a buyer I would need a 2 motor version that skips all the fancy features and has a starting price well below $50k. For the price of either of the rivian twins you could have a fully loaded Rubicon and a hybrid camry to commute with and still have enough money left over to do a few mods to the jeep.

Given that a bare-bones fleet spec Ram 1500 single cab will set you back almost 40k, that's not going to happen for anywhere near 50k.

Just looking over on the Jeep site and a 4 door Rubicon starts at 48k to get one we'll optioned your closer to 60 now maxed out better be prepped for 70+. And if you want to add the 4xe motor then you are at the price of a large pack 2 motor rivian. I see these pricing comments all the time but the truth is everything has gotten substantially more expensive.

They make all their profit in these pointless luxury features. A stripped down model wouldn't net them any margin. They also bundle all the features so if there is one thing you like you have to pay for a bunch of other stuff. I would rather have modular design where you just buy the features you want separately and put them in if you want. Audio systems, big screens and that dumb flashlight could all be sold separately.

Why you want to spend in 2 vehicle if this one will do the same… it can go places like a jeep and you can save money driving like a camry hybrid

Too much reliance on needing to use the screens to operate simple things like mirrors or vents imo. Who's asking for features like that? Overall seems like it makes more sense as a SUV than it does a pickup if I were looking for one.

Nope. They want to own to the UI experience and sell you their own app services. But RJ has said if enough customers ask for it, they could add it.

It bothers me that the door handles open the way they do. I think Tesla is the only company that has them open from the front but that seems way more ergonomic to me. That is honestly the only thing I can think of that I don’t like about Rivians.

Sharp looking vehicle but I HATE that there are absolutely no knobs to adjust anything.....multiple screen touches to adjust the air vents, Seriously?? Develop a sport version without all of the extra tech (for the sake of adding tech), give me knobs to adjust climate, radio, mirrors, cut the price by at least 25% and i would consider purchasing one.
