If you think about it, Colonel Parker got half of what Elvis made. But Elvis had to pay all his entourage, band, staff, which is a LOT of people. So Parker was keeping all his half if it. The man was all about his money.

I CANNOT WAIT! Love your reactions ….. every time. Wiggle that finger Elvis! I was about five or six years old when I first saw him on television. I loved the movie, flaming star. I couldn’t remember his name so when I kept asking my mother, my grandmother and my dad, they didn’t really want to tell me. It was like he was a bad person and we cannot talk about him. Finally my mother told me his name was Elvis Presley. I couldn’t remember his last name very well but I never, ever, ever forgot his first name. I went on to buy all of his records and saw him in the Norfolk Coliseum at the age of 18. All I can say is that was one of my most memorable days of my life. What a performance. What a performer.

The great legends of his era BB King - Jackie Wilson - James Brown were there to witness Elvis‘ creativity. He was a one-of-a-kind super talent that grew up in the black community during the great depression and segregation in the deep South. His support for the civil rights movement is not known by the greater population in America. This movie is going to examine this part. This is why almost all black musicians from that era absolutely loved Elvis because he was able to take that Memphis sound all around the country and then the world. Little Richard credited Elvis Presley multiple times for opening up the door for black music and creating a path that he could travel and so he could make his mark. Clearly a terribly racist time Elvis put poverty and racial socialization on his platform. But he did it all through Music and his behind the scenes actions alone. He never got political I think that’s what actually made him so powerful and able to succeed. BB KING: 'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said in 2010. 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'. -- BB KING JAMES BROWN: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him … I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There’ll never be another like that soul brother”. --- JAMES BROWN (During Elvis' private family wake, James was the LAST ONE TO LEAVE. 1 hour and 30 minutes later -- it took several of his security guards to help him out of the room. James was devastated -- they sang Gospel together to all hours of the night at each others' homes. James Brown was considered family by the Presley they were so close.) JACKIE WILSON: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- JACKIE WILSON (Elvis quietly paid for Jackie's medical expenses until the day he passed away in 1977. Before Jackie's stage accident he would carry a small signed photo of Elvis in his pants pocket. Every day, bar none.)

Soooooo good -- this movie is destined to be great. Graceland - his home, is a REVEAL on American History. And this movie looks like it will tell EVERYONE the truth about Elvis Presley and change a lot of minds of folks that thought Elvis was racist (we fans know that he was not) and enlighten people on how instrumental he was to tear down walls of racism in the music business both in the studio and in live music venues. Elvis did it step by step reacting to the tumultuous times times he lived in. Great Depression and Segregation. And lived to see both evil events end. Elvis would be a terrific voice to have in today's day and age. So many people would listen to him.

I think Baz Luhrmann used to do music videos so he knows how to mix the sound to the sight. In any case he did direct some stage work (most famously the 1994 Sydney Opera House performance of the opera 'La Boheme' - the inspiration for the 90s rock opera/musical 'Rent'

Thank you for a nice reaction. :-) This senior who lived through all of this and saw how horribly Elvis was treated in the beginning, feared at first that this movie may not honor him properly. There was absolutely nothing like seeing him live in concert! I was questioning seeing it, until I saw Lisa Marie's (his daughter) post last week on Instagram. Given her comments, I feel certain this will indeed honor him well. She said : “I haven’t posted in quite some time because there really isn’t much to say, as I am and will forever be mourning the loss of my son. Navigating through this hideous grief that absolutely destroyed and shattered my heart and my soul into almost nothing, has swallowed me whole. Not much else aside from my other 3 children gets my time and attention anymore. (Her son committed suicide in July of 2020 at age 27) However that being said I do want to take a moment to let you know that I have seen Baz Luhrmann’s movie ‘Elvis’ twice now, and let me tell you that it is nothing short of spectacular. Absolutely exquisite. Austin channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully. In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha.)” Luhrmann’s pure love, care, and respect for my father could be felt throughout this beautiful film. This movie is finally something that myself and my children and their children can be proud of forever. What moved me to tears as well was watching [her children] Riley and Harper, and Finley afterwards… all 3 visibly overwhelmed in the best way possible way, and so filled with pride about their grandfather and his legacy in a way that I have not previously experienced. It breaks my heart that my son isn’t here to see it. He would have absolutely loved it as well. I can’t tell you enough how much I love this film and I hope you love it too. Everyone involved poured their hearts and souls into it, which is evidenced in their performances. Baz, your utter genius combined with your love and respect for my father and this project is just so beautiful and so inspiring. I know I’m being repetitive, but I don’t care, Thank you for setting the record straight in such a deeply profound and artistic way.”

Very few people are all bad, and from what I've heard the colonel was a funny pleasant guy almost of the time. But when I think about him as a person I think of a certain situation when Elvis was extremely unwell practically comatose in his hotel and his friend was so relieved when the colonel came cause he thought that this type of scene would never happen again and the colonel would set everything straight after seeing what type of shape Elvis was in. That didn't happen. The colonel went in the room where Elvis and his doctor were and when he came back he just said "Whatever it takes that man must be on stage tonight." He didn't see Elvis as anything other than a money making machine, he wasn't a person to the colonel.

Love you guys, this looks real because I am a child of the 50's, he took so much abuse, guys would ask him for an autograph and then punch him in the mouth. My own father would not let me watch him because I was 11 years old. Of that made me a solid Elvis fanatic. Parker took 50% of Elvis earnings. I also think Elvis would have lassed longer had he never met Parker, Parker saw Elvis as a product and not an artist. Elvis was a real Christian sometime react to "Milky White Way". Be Blessed.

This movie is introducing the world into the main influencers in Elvis Presley's life and music. Growing up poor in Tupelo and living in a predominantly black neighborhood. And his best friend being a black kid name Sam Bell whose grandmom treated Elvis as her own grandchild. Then going to black gospel and Baptist churches and even being part of the choir at the East Trigg Baptist church in Memphis. All the while the Southern States were immersed in the segregated "Jim Crow laws" of the 50's, 60's, and early 70's. Elvis had to take the abuse by the southern and northern media for the way he sang and moved on stage. It wasn't until Ed Sullivan told the world that Elvis was a fine young man. That America and the music industry finally accepted him and his music the new genre called "Rock & Roll." The rest is history...

Elvis wanted to tour Europe but colonel parker would not let him. The reason was because parker was an illegal immigrant at the time and could not leave america if he did he would not be allowed back in. He also had lots of gambling debts that's why he made Elvis do all those films, deep down elvis hated doing them he wanted to be a serious actor. And he got sick and tired of performing in Vegas doing so many shows in one night and every night but colonel parker made him do it.
