Just like in the 1970's when the first feed up car buyers took a leap of faith and bought Japaneses brands like Toyota's and noticed after a few years of ownership they were mostly going to the dealer for basic routine service and not expensive issues that left them stranded on the side of the road or taking the bus to work in the morning. This was when the word started to spread about Japaneses engineering, build quality and reliability which grabbed the attention of even the die hardest red white and blue Americans and brought them to the Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Datsun dealers with check books in hand. You just couldn't ignore it. These cars set a new bar for reliability per dollar. Today, lets be honest, no one really needs a wrist watch let alone an expensive mechanical one. Just about everyone has a cell phone that gives you the time. You buy them for the appreciation of craftsmanship and attention to detail. A piece of miniature mechanical wonder. Today yet again, Japaneses brand SEIKO is raising the bar for what you get at this price point.

I think it’s awesome how GS is quite transparent about their manufacturing process.

Thank you for reposting this video from Seiko's USA RU-vid channel ILoveSeiko. I loved it when it first came out. It gives you a healthy respect of what it takes to make the 9S movement. I wish I could find the video where Seiko takes a mainspring and stretches it out, then lets go of it. It snaps back into shape, then they install it in a watch ant it works! The only manufacturer I've seen do it.

Grand Seiko offers nearly peerless craftsmanship at their price range - their finishing would put some brands 2 - 3x the price in shame and they have some truly revolutionary and innovative movements (Spring Drive)

Every one here have its own favorite watch and brand, to know who is the best of all is to make a completion, and put all rules to abide so can select the judges in different country, like in every sport we have our favorite athlete whether he win or loss but the one who declare a champion must be respect by every body.

I watched a video about the Breitling factory situated in Switzerland before this one and realised that Japanese watchmaking is a generation ahead than its Swiss counterpart and surprisingly they have achieved this all during the twentieth century alone, unlike Swiss who are into watchmaking ever since 16th century.

At the age of 21, I manage to bought a first GS quartz two tone 18k Grand Seiko 95GS by my own for me it's truly a mark of my success. I'm not capable of acquire these modern automatic Grand Seiko now as it's still too expensive , but i will be on my way..

Very good watch indeed. Wear the Heritage collection GMT myself. The only downside is that most people don’t know what is a Grand Seiko unless they are a watch person.
