There’s a story being told about this town by people that have never set foot on our Main Street. We’re here to tell the story of those who call Gresham home. This is Gresham. And this is our story.
Nice to see a positive message about Gresham, Oregon. Take a walk downtown on a Saturday in the summer. What a great place to walk, shop and eat and just grab a coffee. All kinds of people from different walks of life live in Gresham, Oregon.
If you're intrigued by this video, I would suggest you view next the video, "The Gresham Song". It was recently posted (Dec. 2017) and it's a special song composed for the City of Gresham. It's a well written vocal song that plays over a visual video and gives the viewer a good idea about the special vibe you can find in Historic Downtown Gresham. As a side note, downtown offers several large parking lots within the downtown area with free parking.
I moved to Gresham in 1998. Raised my son here. Graduated from mhcc and so did my son before he went to u of o. Im a local small business owner and so is my sister who also lives in Gresham and also graduated from mhcc and also raised her two kids here. Gresham used to be a beautiful quiet city. Clean and quiet ....Low crime and just a great place to raise kids and have a good clean quiet life. You really could leave cars unlocked at night. Parks were clean. Just clean in general. Today you drive around and see plenty of problems. From homeless camps, to gang related spray painting every where. You constantly hear police sirens blazing running from call to call. The city just can’t keep up. They do try. More then I can say for Portland city. But they just can’t keep pace with vandals and criminals. If it’s not bolted down it will get stolen by tweekers (local term from homeless roving meth addicts). Car break ins are so common cops just tell you to go online and file and report. The police will cite and release for stolen cars. One idiot stole my moms car one year. My moms friend spotted it a few blocks away at a apartment complex. When they went to retrieve it, they found the kids belongings in the car. His HS ID, some drugs and other personal items. When they called the cops and told them, the response was “there is not much they can convict him of so just take your car , go home and get a alarm for it”. The quality of life in general has gone down hill. Shootings and gangs are now in Gresham. Rockwood in general is the hive for this activity. The max stations (aka light rail) made it possible for low class criminals to cruise into Gresham for easy pickings. Then low income apartments have them all a place to shelter in the day and return to after a night of crime. The cops hands are tied by poor leadership. This man you see in the video used to be the mayor. He was also a small business owner in Gresham (restaurant owner). A man for the people from the people. He recently and rather abruptly Quit. As did several other high ranking respected leaders in Gresham. All at once. Even they were disgusted by the nonsense going on in Gresham. The CITY slogan should be Gresham...USED to be a great place....now on the fast track to join Portland.
