THIS IS HIP HOP | BTS - Hip Hop Phile (Hip Hop Lover) *REACTION* 

You totally get it, lately I’ve been watching a lot of Hip-Hop channels talk about how Hip-Hop is dying and they complain about the lack of talent and meaning in the songs. Then I think to myself how can they be so closed minded to the fact Hip-Hop is global and thriving both domestically and abroad, you just have to know where to look. BTS are Hip-Hop rappers that truly embrace the culture.

The rappers in BTS are legit and if you think about it... this was a performance from EIGHT years ago when the boys were still semi-new, not to mention young, in the industry. They've continued to improve and grow as they mature which of course means their style and writing has grown with them. All 3 of the rap line have released albums which really showcase their personal style. J-Hope released a song with his idol J Cole earlier this year called On the Street as a goodbye for now for ARMY before he enlisted in their mandantory military service.

They studied Hip Hop, they respect and master their craft. They don't just copy or try to imitate but pay respect to the art and artists. It's so GREAT to see them being respected and appreciated for their efforts and hard work. They not only pay respect through this song, but songs that they sample, they acknowledge and pay the artists for, they display their picture(s) in the song. BTS, incredible talent, definitely respect them. Thank you for sharing.

Love your reaction! I love these guys! I am a 49-year old Asian mom of 2 young men & a hip hop fan of 80s/90s…2pac’s music, Nas, early work of Kanye, J Cole…But man, BTS is on a league of their own! Love early BTS but each one of them…7 members are talented artists! Give them a listen! There’s a reason why BTS is the number one artists in the entire world! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

So both RM and Suga came up through the underground rap scene in South Korea. When the younger members joined, they essentially gave them homework of all the artists that had influenced them. Within the western rappers in the lyrics, you also have groups from SK like Epik High, which is a group still active (and touring). I'm 50 - grew up with the Beasties, NWA, Public Enemy, Eminem and the like. When I first listened to BTS, I assumed that the three were "rappers" in name only. My god was I wrong. I'd put the three of them up against just about anyone. RM has amazing wordplay, Suga is raw and honest, and J-Hope is intense. I can't pick a favorite from the three because all of them are just that good.

Also if you didn’t notice in the beginning of jhope verse he was shouting the dance styles of the hip hop genre since he starting dancing hip hop and later became a rapper, also him and RM were also shouting to Korean rappers that brought the genre to SK and others to made it popular in SK that most of them now are friends or had worked with them too

Someone once said to me a long time ago that Hip Hop was all about all aspects of community and it's expression, about speaking your truth. That's all the label asked of BTS from the start. And they've told their stories through their music which evolved as they grew. But nothing will ever take away that Hip Hop foundation. Another reactor said that other artists might have better technical voices but BTS has an extra element that he could only define as grit. I think that grit is the authentic "scent of humans" brought by their Hip Hop roots.

yes Cypher 1-4 is a must just remember that Cypher 1 is when they are young and still perfecting their style - you will see huge improvements in #2

You have the right attitude, my guy. In order to stay relevant we must adapt and accept that much of the world is into hip hop, rap, jazz, blues, R&B and so many other types of music that began in America's black communities. K-pop would not exists without most of these genre. When Beyoncé calls out the female legends, should they act like she's using them for clout? If any legend acknowledges you, be proud, stick out your chest and know they view you as important enough to share with their fans. Too many artists today are on the high-horse, not willing to give, or receive respect. Why? I'm proud to remind people that what they groove to today, was made by people like us yesterday. The new cats stand in the shoes of the OG's. It's all good when they give props to those who paved the way.

YES ARMY enjoys long videos & please don't be afraid to ask questions about anything even if its been discussed. 7 members, an ARMY, 10 yrs, a massive discography, & a ton of content. We rather you ask than be lost or uneducated or confused. Now there is one track that most ARMY avoids & it's only cuz the feat artist was needed & the original is a 1M times better. So feel free to avoid the Sia version of ON.

I respect Melle Mel and all the people who created, fought for hip hop but that debate over Eminem we had it 25 years ago... Now BTS would they be as popular if they was black (to go back to what melle mel is saying) idk.. but one thing for sure is that as people of color they ain't got it easy when it comes to breaking in the US and like you said at the end of the day it's about love and sharing! And they tell stories only a Korean man would be able to tell so they even contribute to the expansion and rappers in Korea did it before them too! And if they got to collab with people like Warren G, Wale, Cole, Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak and likely Pharrell upcoming it's for a reason... These people don't do collabs just like that and they have too much respect for the culture if it wasn't really for artistic reasons! Or even in their more commercial/mainstream collabs like Snoop or younger gen like Juice Wrld, Latto, Megan Thee stallion, Latto, NLE Choppa, Kodak Black, Desiigner, Jason Derulo , Nicki Minaj.. They've always been so appreciative, willing to learn, inclusive and shed light on the culture! J-hope is preparing a whole Disney + documentary next year on street dances and will go back to the origins in New York! And they talked how they really started with dance, djing, graffiti, mcing and with songs like this they use their platform to touch such a wide audience who get introduced to hip hop!!! So I really like their approach and I'd hope too that it could create some dialogue with older generations! Because their hearts and hands are stretched to them!
