Oh man, this video is long overdue! I've been super busy lately but more details to come on that later! This video was shot during the weekend of shot show and I met up with steve so he can show off the blasters they're making! The rifle was made right! I was surprised to see how much went into building these guns. It really made me appreciate all these companies that put in a lot of work to build a well-tuned machine!

So let me be clear on and address alot of the comments. Dont think that steve or anyone in the video is trying to come up with some wazzu shit. Dont get me wrong, what hes saying to ryan and i is news to us only because we dont know this stuff lol. Steve is a good buddy of mine who has a passion for these guns hes making and like i said, after i shot them i was impressed. Can you slap a gun together or buy one from a manufacture that shoots as well? Hell yes you can and thats awesome! Personally for me i love the passion he has for building these guns and i wanted to give him a platform to speak about his passion as i would for any one of my friends. ALSO! yes i understand the rail looks like other rails on the market. Lets be honest, that can be said about every rail, reciever group and accessories on the market. The guys and gals at ripcord added their own flare which to some may not be needed and again.. THATS OKAY

It literally doesn't matter, because they will be at vastly different temperatures anyway. Temperature of the bolt plateaus while the carrier and chamber side of the barrel will continue to climb in a DI gun, in a piston gun the bolt and carrier barely get any heat.

Quick Tip: A quick and easy way to check your gas rings is to remove your BCG from your upper, and with the bolt in the UNlocked position try standing the BCG up on end, with the bolt facing down. If it collapses under its own weight, you need new gas rings.

A few things to add. They needed to spec out a new gas block for these barrels. The core series barrels are known for being undersized on the gas block journal by the people who build guns and and spec them for a living. So good on them. I originally thought vltor built their rails but yeah must not be. Looks like a mix between a Geissele and vltor freedom rail. Both great rails so nice little mix up of them with their own touch. You can bash on any company you want but I enjoy more companies. Competition drives innovation, harder to do now in the AR world but nice to have options.

As far as gassing a rifle properly and tuning the buffer should a shooter be worried about one offs? For example, my 16" had never really liked steel cases. A couple weeks ago I was at the range running some Tula 75gr, Ammo Inc, 77gr, and Hornady Match 75gr to see which grouped best at 100. The first round from Tula left a stuck case I had to tap out with a cleaning rod- after that it ran fine. The Hornady stovepiped on a round; other than that it ran fine. Ammo Inc ran perfectly. Should I be concerned about the one offs?

I have since learned a mountain of info along the way. I love to tune them. My favorite one has , among other things, a David Tubbs flat wire recoil spring that eliminates bolt bounce. You need 7 1/2" of barrel past the gas block and you can change dwell time with buffer weight or / and bolt carrier weight. You can tighten up groups by better barrel extension to receiver fit. Even the amount of torque on the barrel nut can be used to tune one. Lots of other things too. Just wish I could shoot as fast as milspec mojo.

I wonder what's the story behind ripcord and geissele? If Im not mistaken, their barrel nut looked pretty identical to geissele except theirs is from steel. And handguard have similar resemblance as well.

The design was originally a trex arms collab with VLTOR but I think Jesse Pinkman took it?

Products are evolutionary. If you’re a good engineer/inventor you will look at current products and note their downfalls and build off of that. Example: steel vs aluminum barrel nut. That’s an improvement in itself if you understand basic heat transfer. Ripcord specifically holds incredibly tight consistent tolerances. You pay for experience, quality, consistency and material selection, which to me means more than having a new snake oil handguard for you IG account. 🚀🌙

@@mrglocklover9 well the reason I ask, is I was wondering if there is any story behind the similarity. Beside the stuff you mentioned, there could be something more administrative reasoning such as they know each other, or Ripcord used to work in Geissele and he designed it? Stuff like that.

I think this is a novel upgrade but considering that they only sell SBR(10", 11.5") length uppers, I wonder how much of an improvement in accuracy or shift in zero there is consider the short barrel length.

Always curious bout these holsters, they are a solid belt mount but have a leg strap as a drop would. Whats the point of the leg strap?

Ensures if the gun catches that the bottom of the holster doesn’t pull away from your leg. Makes drawing more consistent

I don’t understand why they don’t make a 13.5 rail?? I have a 14.5 barrel. I am getting a suppressor but my handguard needs to be 13.5 so the suppressor sits flush with it. But the only close handguard is 13.13.

1 month late, I know. It's because he was a radio operator and Fed LE, not a marksman. Don has gained recognition by his demonstrated ability to shoot rifles and pistols fast in close quarters. That skill set doesn't generally require understanding the relationship between accuracy and barrel temp.
