indeed with a big screen like that you would think that they would display far more useful information. it could be a nice raspberry pie application to replace the non functioning boards inside & have a universal system. also the hot pockets could have adjustable sides to allow any phone to be used in the cradle. the system makes more sense if you are doing 100s of screen a day at a repair centre.

I was working at a company using a similar display for our equipment and there was no good reason we couldn't display useful error messages. The reason (not a good one) was we were using an off the shelf piece of hardware and didn't have people to write code to display a useful message. Apple, on the other hand, could have just stuck a phone on the side with the manual built in.

I understand that for individual repair shop this machine is not ideal for budget. But for customers that pay Apple to fix their phone, this is actually really nice. Why? it basically eliminate any human error that could lead to damaging your phone. There was once I found my aluminum frame scratched after it got repaired from official Apple store. I spent an hour there arguing with the staff and despite I showed the photo I took before repair, they refuse to admit it was their fault. Eventually, I recalled that when they took my phone, the diagnose was recorded as no outer damage to observe, the manager came out to apologize and agreed to exchange my phone.

Reading all these comments makes it really apparent that people don’t know what they’re talking about. I’ve been doing phone repair for 8 years. iPhones are some of the easiest devices to physically repair, aside from the software barriers apple has in place; if you’ve ever repaired a Samsung device or other android, you will know this to be true. Only phone that is easier than an iPhone to repair is a Pixel. Apple isn’t making phones harder to repair purposefully with their physical designs, they don’t have to. The physical hardware is such to keep dust and water out, and even then we still see people coming in for water damage. Using heat and isopropyl alcohol, the adhesive that keeps the screens shut is all but nonexistent. Apple doesn’t have to try to make their phones hard to get into from a repairability standpoint because they already have SO many software points that they use to gatekeep repairs. On almost all iPhones that are still getting iOS updates, the screens, batteries, vibration motors, earpiece speakers, and cameras are all irreplaceable without getting some form of “warning” message along with losing features. Just my 2¢

When you click in the hotpockets, you have to turn the red switch/button in the front it will spring out. Then begins the heating process, when temp is reached a 2 min timer will apear, after that an alarm starts and you have to push the button back in place. Another countdown will apear, at this point it is ready to open the phone. I am not sure about the manual, maybe I could help with that, but I am not sure, if i am allowed to share this confidential stuff.^^ PS: I am pretty sure the errorcode E4 means that the suction cup is not all the way up. No fronts, but when i buy something damaged from a company that offer repairs i would guess it is unrepairable ;) Thx for your vids mate

Apple just needs to chill out, I love their products, but the repairability of their devices sucks, but you, you make it looks so easy, keep up the amazing work

To be honest, I'm someone who supports right to repair and wish for more repair friendly devices from manufacturers but can't cease to notice the utter hatred for Apple from most of your followers in the comments. What does that add to your life if it's all about hating a particular company. Is it because of how increasingly successful Apple is? It's just unnecessary! We can all criticize and push for better repairability from them but the hatred won't bring any fruition. I can see the "anti-Apple" behavior from some of you even as someone who doesn't posses any of their products or have any preference for Apple.

It's unreal that this machine exists to perform such a simple function. And the fact that it's broken and the means to fix it are kept secret is ridiculous.

Is that it? Something to heat something up? Reminds me of Pop Tarts. Yum!

The firmware's binary might be possible to dump from the chip, although I'm unsure how much - if any - help that might be; it's entirely possible that there's a way to simply write your own better firmware and flash it onto the controller, as it does seem like it'd be fairly easy to reflash.

1st thing i would have tested was the microswitch at the back of the machine when you insert the heating pocket

Nothing new here. Almost every PCMCIA modem you have ever bought was heat sealed. Not user repairable. The device covers were clamped, the device was heated to melt the glue and cooled to set. Other devices we made used BGA components and they are absolutely not user serviceable, either. Most device owners have no business inside modern devices because they have zero knowledge.

Can you just apply voltage to the heating pockets to use the suction cup?

I was thinking that too, although I guess the main unit is governing the heat level? Even so, it should be possible.

Did you verify that all the simpler commodity components (like the microswitch shown on-screen around 3:01 with that arrow) are actually working? It's amazing how many microwave ovens are discarded because a simple microswitch like that has failed.

Find the hot pocket voltage and bypass the lot with a power supply and switch.
