Honestly any type can work with one another. But, some matches have 'natural attraction' and of course there are some matches that will definitely be more of a struggle. It all will come down to cognitive maturity from both parties to make it work. This is why MBTI is a very valuable tool to help understand why people are the way they are. Its not confrontation.... It's stimulation we seek. Our brains love to be rubbed and sometimes that can come off as if we're trying to be confrontational, but we're not. It makes us happy to see someone we care about critically think and prove that they're not just like everyone else who has a monolithic standardized set of social values and opinions. We Analyze people 24/7 and a sad reality is that most people are very similar ... we detest this but realize that it's the way the world is. By the time you capture our attention we likely already have an idea of how humans work and if you're not intellectual you'll bore us because we already know all the talking points of different sorts of people and we already know everything most people have to say and all your thought patterns... when you break out of the preconceived boxes we've developed for the general population in terms of patterns and behaviors... THAT'S when you truly have us. The truth is that speaking to most people is like watching a movie that you've already seen 10,000 times ... This might sound pretty cool (and it is lolol) but from a personal experience point of view ... it really makes us apathetic because most people don't have that novelty of the unknown... we figure out who you are in like the first 100 words that come out of your mouth ... which is really quickly and people rarely deviate from what we believe to be true about them.
INTP here. I always wondered why I had this unsatisfying urge to obnoxiously tease, and it was always towards the girls that let themselves get close to me and me to them. My brain needed juxtaposition to be present. I wonder how I can void that desire by supplementing it with some type of exterior sensor that is “aggressive,” for the lack of a better term….?
I think the ideal for an INTP depends on where we are in life. From a compatibility standpoint, INTJs, ENTJs, ISFP and ESFPs are the best because you have no competing functions. When I was younger and had less direction a J type might have helped me focus on developing myself, where in my 50's it would be irritating being urged to change from who I am. In the same way, an E is good to get out of my comfort zone, where I enjoy my lifestyle as a homebody and wouldn't want to stifle an extrovert. That leaves the happy place I am today with an ISFP. We both like a night at home, processing our choices at our own pace and we cover each other's blind spots well (me covering her Ne trickster inability to read other's intentions and her Se parent noticing things I miss in the now while my head is in a book.) While I wish we had deeper Ti/Ne type conversations, I don't miss the walking on egg shells situations I had navigating INFPs reading things that weren't there as her Ne misfed her Fi. I would also say the WORST choices for an INTP are Si doms. ISFJs and ISTJs have very strong views on what is normal and your Ne parent thinking out of the box will frustrate her and stifle you. You need someone amused by your quirks and not embarrassed by them.
I think you had some good insights here. It's true that it really catches my attention when someone stands up to me in argument. I don't want someone super nice, I want someone with sharp edges.
I have been with my ENTJ partner 9 years and can confirm it is the best partnership for me for the reasons you state but I've heard some male INTPs don't prefer ENTJ partners as they make them feel inferior or are domineering but it makes me wonder if they really know any ENTJs in real life as they are very hard to come by, and also have they actually been in a relationship with one because dating one is different that them just being your boss or colleague. Also, your friend is so cuuuute!!
Thank youuuu ! I know a male INTP who had a very strong dominant ENTJ partner. They broke up because their life's vision was different but he is still looking for an assertive and strong ENTJ woman :D But in many cases maybe INTP men feel emasculated with an ENTJ female? That would be my guess

Filipe is not real, seek help. Lol, jk. A real dog would be better.. My relationships I always end up with an extreme extrovert because they put themselves there. I go to the extreme of my extroversion but it's not sustainable. When I revert to introvert they start thinking I'm cheating and all kinds of ridiculousness.. even girls that I swore would be confident enough not to go there. I do show intp on some tests but relate much more to intj descriptions. Such like a blend.. I know...
