1. By "throttling" the engine from inside the combustion chamber, FreeValve eliminates the manifold vacuum, allowing atmospheric pressure all the way to the intake valve. This improves MPG in CITY driving. Plus, you can't get any better throttle response then that! 2. By having a "square cam profile", the valve pops open, stays flat, then snaps shut, improving air flow in both intake and exhaust ports. 3. Each valve is optimized in real time with every cycle. For any engine load criteria, the timing of intake and exhaust can be independently programmed throughout the rev range. The system can then “decide” based on driving conditions which one to use to maximize performance, or minimize fuel consumption and emissions.

Idk if the second one is definitely more interesting, that no cam thing sounds quite revolutionary like when Vtec first came out.

So I know nothing about cars but man that diagram about how it works was incredible. Thanks a lot for that... an anecdote. I watched this video after getting a call from my mom. So I had given my younger brother my old Yaris spirit 2005 2 door after fixing it up for him last month, and on the call, my mom was telling how the car blew its top on Saturday.. sigh, had just replaced the engine 2 months ago after my aunt was driving it and blew the top too so now need to get rid of it. I don't know why this still happened because we replaced the oil system too. Sorry for the rant

These valves make the cylinder head taller than a traditional over head cam engine and have hundreds more moving parts, square wave valve opening has way more potential if its reliable.

You forgot to mention that the twin turbo three cylinder free valve engine has three valves per cylinder totaling 9 valves if you include intake valves. The way that it monitors the engines output and efficiency is by switching between Otto and Miller cycles in real time, so that it can leave the valves open longer if they need to be to reduce pumping losses. The engine can theoretically also run as a 2 stroke up to 3000rpm, and then it swtiches back to 4 stroke after 3000rpm once the turbos have spooled up, but they haven't tested that function in their engines just yet. The engine displacement is also 2 liters, which is quite a big cylinder bore for a 3 cylinder engine, and it has a bore of 95 mm and a stroke of 93.5mm. It also makes peak power at 7500 rpm and revs up to 8500 rpm as well. The engine can also run on petrol, e85 and even methanol or alcohol and butanol fuels due to these constantly varying cycles, so it really is better than any flex fuel vehicle in terms of electronically controlled engine efficiency. They said that theoretically the same TFG engine running without the twin turbos will still make 280 Horsepower, which is quite literally insane from a naturally aspirated 3 cylinder motor. Finally, they also want to include AI in the free valve engines, so that it can learn and vary the valve usage on the fly without having to have it coded into the ECU. That's down the pipeline, and for now the engine will run on human coding for it's valve control cycling. Thanks for the video! the triumph rocket 3 moorcycle has a 2.3liter 3 cylinder engine that can make 400hp to the rear wheel when supercharged with high compression pistons. my Rocket has been upgraded with intake, exhaust, and computer chip, and now makes 170hp instead of the stock 145.

Twin-turbo 3 cylinder engine can done by the Camshaft engine. Check on the CB400 Revo engine. When low rpm it activate 1 exhaust & intake valve when in high rpm it activate 2 exhaust and intake valve.
