@@mindlessgonzo that reminded me of that one quote from grand tour. How did it go? 3 words of survival. 1st class travel. 5 star hotel. Or I wont do it? XD
@@dickJohnsonpeter He was stranded there, mate. They dropped him off there and basically told him: "you're staying here until the other two have come to pick you up from the other side of the Atlantic".
This wasn't the original Top Gear. Clarkson was on it, but not Hammond. May was on it a few times, but not a regular. This is actually the reboot of Top Gear.
@@Muckylittleme Wait, what? You can't start with "Political Correctness," then end on a Godwin's Strawman. I mean, you obviously can, but not without proving yourself an oxymoron.
0:42 *"And if you want to write to the BBC, and say 'This is some rare type of tree, and has to be preserved', you can stick up your arse!"* Best EVER! XD
Actually, Clarkson was right about the Condor thing. The Andean Condor is the largest flying bird. The Albatross has the longest wingspan, but by no means is it the largest flying bird.
So that's what made him soft, huh.. What a pity. I must admit, compated to Top Gear, The Grand Tour has been pretty weak so far. The humor has suffered greatly on Grand Tour. I truly do believe that some people work better under a limit.. I hate that so many jokes are just so much on the nose now. I don’t get why they’re being “generous” with their audience, why they care if we get the joke or not. One of the best things about TG was that some of the jokes flew over your head and only later you understood them, and that made it so much better. Now it’s like they’re holding a sign “LOOK HERE, THIS IS A JOKE!”. P.S. i don’t mean every joke they tell is bad, but you can see the difference.
@@nothajzl Nah its just that unfortunately times have changed, its just so much harder to do comedy nowadays when you have that kind of popularity. So many of the jokes they used to make that were borderline 8-10 years ago would never fly today. Think about how the how much shit spotify has gotten from their own employees for their deal with joe rogan and he isnt anywhere near as controversial as they sometimes could be.
@@henrywilson575 I don't really feel like top gear was all that "edgy" tbh. Sure they were some pushing of boundaries here and there but mostly their jokes were at the expense of each other and 90% of their jokes weren't problematic in any way I would say. Just snippy British humor. Also, considering what American shows and even other British shows were doing at that time (i.e full on racist stereotypes and offensive drivel masquerading as "humor"), the worst top gear did was call each the r word.
The Moris Morena (or however you spell it) I found absolutely hilarious, just the idea that they were watching, waiting for that apology, and then absolutely lost it after they destroyed another one lmao
@@tenghiskhan2063 Both are funny to me because, in Portuguese, a Morena is a Brunette, and a Marina is a dock - as in you drive your Marina to the Marina to watch other people's yachts 'cause you can't afford one yourself. :-D And yes, I am familiar with that looking-at-things-I-cant-afford life myself. Sadly.
@@jeanackle Yep, a Marina is a dock or a place where post people keep their toy boats, the car was so-called because every time it rains, they fill up with water.
the complaints get more and more stupid as the show goes on until jeremy gets fired. it kinda shows the progression into the issue we have today where you can’t say anything like this anymore on live TV.
"This is for all the people who say "You're only interested in expensive cars;" you're damn right, the new Lamborghini Gallardo" One of the best lines in the whole show
I can remember watching the Patagonia Special and thinking "I'm pretty sure Jeremy is wrong about the condor," and then seeing him make his "apology" was just hilarious.
Saing someone is Christ as a joke, 3 complaints. Joke about Muslims, 2 Complaints. Setting a camper on fire, 103 complaints. Glad to see everyone has thier priorities in order wtf lmao
Honestly, I wish entertainment was still like this. You cant please everyone and no matter what, someone is going to be offended and complain, just because thats what they do. These days those people use Twitter. Obviously, its different if they were slinging around actual slurs, but getting bent out of shape over jokes is YOUR problem. Words only have as much power as we give them and I firmly believe that the only way to get rid of the issues in this world is to make them laughing stocks.
Very true! Virtually everything can be funny in the right light or situation, jokes are jokes and getting offended by them is missing the point. But as you say it's different these days, it's like there's a small but very vocal minority getting offended by everything and they get to dictate what the majority can enjoy. Jordan Peterson made a very interesting point in an interview, that you "can't say anything about anything important ever without offending" and continues to make the point that there's this idea today that you can't offend anyone. So what if you're speaking to one person, do you have the right to offend that person? What if you're speaking to 10 people? Do you get to offend 1 in 10? Or 1 in a 1000?
@@zapador The thing is, they've always existed. Back in the day, it was the Karans getting all bent out of shape over DnD, video games and Rock Music. THe difference is that they were basically screaming into the void and so batshit insane with the Satanic Panic thing that it only really effected America and not that much since everyone sensible just rolled their eyes and moved on. These days the voices are amplified by social media and, rather annoyingly, they have latched onto an actually good cause, poisoning it and draining it of its power in the process.
What? Your comment makes no sense. Entertainment like this still exists, and people that complain about them have existed since.. ever. It's literally no different now than it is 50 years ago.
@@TetraDax Oh, I know that, the problem is that its getting more and more common for people to get bent out of shape over it and the internet makes complaining a lot easier and more public, which leads the big, mass market appeal entertainment groups more likely to crack down on it in the name of, well, mass market appeal. You certainly wouldn't find stuff like this one the BBC.
I love how Clarkson seems genuinely sorry for doing something small like running over a double white line on the road but never really cares about anything else 😂😂
Yes, appeared to be genuinely caught out by that. I think I remember the episode but wouldnt have written in to point it out though. I think some people have too much time on their hands.
I think it was also because it seemed like he made a genuine mistake rather than the usual kind of skits they do without caring about anyone else. And also that traffic rules are something he probably takes more seriously than people's opinions.
This is the way to do it. Nothing hurts easily offended and irrationally angry people more than saying, "I acknowledge your opinion and I do not care about it."
I honestly believed that there were a group of "Disgusted Of Tunbridge Wells" types who used to sit with a blank e-mail template open and watch Top Gear, just waiting to be offended by something, so they could complain to The BBC.
Retired most probably on a big pension, sat in their expensive house sipping cups of tea out of fine china. Grandfather clock in the hall and a tiled mosaic floor in the entrance.
These three really have taught me how to make offensive jokes professionally and get it away with it. They are just the best! I miss this era of shows where everyone is not too sensitive and complain about everything, you can't make anyone understand these clips nowadays. They would just "cancel" you in social media haha lmao.
That's why a lot of actors dont have personal social media accounts. People get upset at things they do on tv when it's just for entertainment. Which is subjective. If people don't like it, dont try and cancel it and try to have them lose their job just don't watch it. 3 people complain and shout but 350million people enjoyed this show, so why do people listen to these complaints.
They're the champions of common sense, and considering their shows include caravan conkers, chucking cars off cliffs, and a lot of explosions, that's alarming.
I love how all of these clips are Jeremy sarcastically apologising, whilst Richards comes up with something funny to say, and James just sits reflecting on his life.
I love how the apologies start with a promise of sincerity, as if to appease the offended, and then immediately transposes into a one-liner that reoffends the offended, and offends 3 more, yet you can't help but love them for it. Never change kings, never change.
@@Mustang150ythat episode tried to address what they were saying but it kinda missed the point. I don’t want totally unscripted with none of them knowing what they doing. But I also don’t want obviously scripted explosions and accidents, these guys aren’t actors I can’t watch the motorhone special again because of the obvious scripting.
Lol the Condor joke was on its own league 😂😂😂😂😂 I remember seeing that for the first time and truly was expecting an apology to Argentina. Lol!!!!! I imagined the faces of Argentinians 🤣
I am absolutely amazed at how those three control their laughter, i absolutely cannot understand how they do it. Even in comedy films there are so many bloopers where they fall over laughing and they can only shoot it when they do it so many times it becomes boring. These guys are actually incredible
There is one fact about this show many have forgotten about (even though it has been only a few short years) and some other people try to bury because the trio is not woke: when the trio left, Top Gear was the biggest TV show (not just car show) on the planet and by far the biggest money earning program for the BBC. They were actually profitable. Just a shame it ended the way it did
It's been almost a decade not a few short years like you said, I will always go back to top gear, it just feels more genuine to me than the grand tour.
@@Bendwow That's kinda the thing. Being unpopular with those short-bus occupants USED to be a much smaller deal than it is now. So at the time it was produced, it wasn't controversial. It is retroactively controversial though, or at least would be if the full episodes could be found anywhere LMAO.
What was so funny about them, was that whenever a complaint came in they brought some of it up live and just “lol eat shit” and that was that. No apologies, no regretful speech or justifications, just “mm yes cry more”.
The holy trinity of motoring journalists. Every car program tries to be them yet they all look up to them. Clarkson is THE motoring journalist’s journalist
Talking about Morris Marinas I always remember with my mine the terrible decision of which to keep off of the windscreen wipers or headlamps on a dark rainy night so as to not overload the dynamo with everything going off.
Or you could just stop saying racist & hurtful slurs, stop stereotyping nationalities & class and stop punching down at others who get it from everyone 24/7 and get actual hatred and abuse from those that think they're funny calling anyone in the UK that isn't white a terrorist and telling them to go back where they came from. Just a thought.
I lost it in the first clip because of the guy in the very back going "Heh" then proceeding to laugh louder than the entire crowd. Dont know who's more easily amused, me or that guy.
Top Gear in a nutshell: It's really about 3 older British gentlemen that are offensive, hilarious and juvenile that just happened to be featured on a car show.
I adore how they deal with offended people. In Sweden, if someone gets offended, SVT (the Swedish equivalent of BBC), they would say they are ”deeply sorry for any mistake” and the whole show would probably be canceled.
Great video 📹 👍!... always enjoyed these guys on top gear!!... and I always crack up when the Morris Marina sketch comes on!!!.... I know this video is year old now, but just found it, and watched it!.... brilliant 👏
I think the best thing about Top Gear, was I could sit at home and watch it on TV, sitting in my living room on a couch or lounge chair. And not have to stand in the audience. Much more enjoyable sitting and laughing at their antics.
