By the way, I'm using the Royal Cubit as measurement. A Royal Cubit is roughly 20.5 inches. The 0.5 extra comes from a span, which is a measurement equal to half a cubit.
Did you take into account the cobits might have been translated by the people writing the different translations as cubits changed with the ages as well. Although I do not believe the Bible is real. I do think as someone who tries to look at history and learn from it. It is important to look at those details to. Cubits were a measurement from different ages and different areas throughout history.
I have no idea what you're trying to explain to me. Do you mean that the measurement of the cubit has changed over the years, or that the Bible isn't credible, or something else?
@@JulianGentry that the name cubits was used for different measurements throughout time. It's like using one of the measurements of pounds in pre-napoleonic Europe and using it to measure it in today's American pounds. It's just a thing that can vary. And it will definitely vary if you take into account there wasn't a precise constant to keep a cubit in check. Every copy of a rule was slightly different. Take that over a few hundred years alone and it becomes a different Vallue. Now if you take into account the versions were written in a different time. In a different place. Some authors might have converted the cubits to their Vallue of it. Or atleased an estimated equal size. Which is why I asked if you took that into account when calculating them. Also as for your question on the Bible. I myself do not see it as a fully accurate depiction of the history of the world. But that does not mean I would challenge your worldview on it. People should be able to believe what they want as long as they do not harm others. Simple as that.
When I refer to the Royal Cubit, I'm talking about the Ancient Egyptian one, which has cubit rods that survived until today. We know what the ancient cubit was in size because we have the tools they used to measure with. But I put Goliath as musltiple heights in there anyway since there are different accounts of how many cubits tall he was. For the Bible, it's not meant to describe the history of the entire world at every step, merely the history of the Jewish people from Adam to Jesus, and then some history of the early Christian Church through the letters of Paul. People can believe whatever they want, but some people believe things that are wrong.
@@JulianGentry only forgetting David and Goliath weren't alive in ancient Egypt and the cubits weren't perse the same cubits as the Egyptians as I mentioned. As well as the fact the different accounts could have been from people in different times. Once again. Changing of altering the Vallue with it either by conversion or by misinterpreted conversion. Something we know happened throughout history quite a lot. Like worth Columbus not understanding the difference in cubits from ancient greece compared to cubits different moments in time that he studied to conclude the wrong size. Which is what also might explain the difference in cubits we see being so different. As for your claim on some of people's beliefs being wrong. Jesus himself said not to judge others unless being judged yourself. You sure you aren't a bit to eager to call others wrong? Especially when you do not know them?
Probably not. They were closer to Adam than us I believe they were taller. I doubt Adam was short. We are probably smaller since mostly everything ore flood was large. Noah was pre flood and post flood. A few generations had to still be pretty tall.
@@J2kRuDiMentwe litrally have bones to see, not only that but david was only about 3000 years ago max during which the world was already advanced, Europe America and middeast was already full of people way past the flood, it wasn't near to the beginning of creation.
@@YahalEL7 So they found David’s bones, Abraham’s and Noah’s? Last time I checked they didn’t. Finding a couple doesn’t mean everyone was an average of 5’5 or shorter. They probably just found a short persons remains. Buildings, and other structures from antiquity were to accommodate larger people. I doubt everyone was Giant but it’s more unlikely to have people just a bit taller than the dwarf community. The dimensions of the Ark of the covenant alone, would be very hard to carry for miles a day for very small men. Not everything science or archeologists report is true. Somethings are meant to deceive. I guess it’s a matter of belief more than fact. I guarantee they haven’t found thousands of bones to get that average. Like most studies it’s hypothesis and blind targeting.
Just one things to point out , according to the Bible Golatiath took the hellmet off, so when David was froing the stone , Goliath wasn't wearing his helmet.
With Goliath being a soldier too and having training i wonder just how big he was not just tall he must have been terrifying to look at it would be how Bruce Lee looked at Kareem Abdul Jabbar in Game of Death when he stood up to fight Bruce
Kareem Abdul Jabar was a giant tall tooth pick. Goliath was a giant with muscles. He was a decendant of the nephilim. Which they defined all acquisitions of man kind. So you are correct. It had to be terrifying to look upon.
There is a local church that has life-size statues of David and Goliath and it is remarkable. Went there once as a kid, and you definitely know how David felt!
Many? Most? Minority of US citizens buy into BS David vs Goliath myth. They wholeheartedly believe in, without critical thinking. Critical thinking like you just did. For flat Earthers they don't believe Earth is a sphere, climate change is a hoax US never landed on the moon. But they believe this.
Considering how much mitsuri eats in Demon Slayer I got a good image on how much energy id would take to support such a build, even someone from a rich family would struggle to affort enough food with such a build
Saul offered David his armor, and Saul was much taller than the average Israelite. David kills a lion and a bear and no one questions him. I’d argue that David was huge himself. The scriptures just say that he was young and inexperienced in battle.
shut up and think about the words that you typed. my guy, none of them were tall, let alone short for a tall person. they were verage height big dudes, and your "scripture" is wrong. find a science way for anything over 7 feet to be normal and i may consideer you have a brain @@Freddysclips24
Goliath was between 7'9"-11'3". The low bar is already the attempt to "lets be honest". No matter how you square it, he was very very taller even for modern standards.
@@dunebuggy1292.. evidence or it never happened. Pure conjecture, indoctrinated belief based upon anecdote. Let's be truly honest, lying and believing falsehoods are both sins.. choose your poison and swallow it.
except it is basicslly ceertian he wasnt that tall..... dude was an average big guy in a world with less tall people. dude is only relevant because somebody liked the idea of a hsort king knocking out a tall one. flip the roles and we call it the crusades or some shit. its a mid sotry about a dude yeeting a rock
The NLT Bible says over 9 feet tall. Regardless, if he's bigger than even Robert Wallow, imagine him in the middle of an NBA court. Goliath would look like a Monstar. Jokes aside, David's shot at him with a mere slingshot was something else.
@@SiriusDraconisthe problem with that is his oldest brother probably could not walk very well and all the siblings started powerlifting at a young age in order to be able to walk and run in order to not be to fragile.
Tbh Robert Waldow was just the tallest man on record, there are probably a bunch of people taller who just live in random parts of the world. I bet that Goliath was much taller and was probably 10 feet tall or something
Hate to be that guy, but there's no evidence of that. Considering just how gigantic Robert was, I think it's reasonable to assumed he was the tallest in the world, regardless of record.
@@leftwingpowerpeople were shorter back then. Its not assumptions when you scientifically look at records and the religious material itself. Also the tallest people in the world suffer from health complications due to gravity and their height. Its safe to assume, that if Goliath managed to even reach adulthood, he likely wasn’t horrendously too tall. Probably around 6 foot. Still massive compared to people back then.
@@heccers1998Goliath had some of the best nutrients and genetics of all the land and likely started running and lifting at a young age to strengthen his bones plus he have a massive chest so he probably had a big heart to match his blood volume.
Beautifully done. Some constructive criticism if I may? 1) You shouldve added metric units as well. The world works in metric. USA is in the north-western hemisphere. 2) You should have added the particular Biblical text associated with the modern height lable for each depiction. 3) You shoulve added King James Version. The most reliable text.😮 2.97metres.
Probably since a idea by a catholic said that since david was extremely short and his people fighting others that heights was on average 6ft would be like fighting a giant. But that's just a theory
Where in the old testament or new testament it is written that prohet david peace be upon him was short? im curious to know because ive heard many Christians and Jews saying he was short
Remember that his scale body armor was from 125 to over 200 pounds given the low and high estimate. Scale armor from this period typically weighed 20-30 pounds. Goliath's personal armor was five times heavier than typical scale armor. Plate armor from medieval times was 45-50 pounds. The dude was way bigger and stronger than others. That is why he was the Philistine champion. That is why David knocking him out in one slinged stone throw to a head with a bronze helmet on is either a special act of divine providence, or God made the stone more accurate and powerful than normal. The lowest estimate i heard was he is 6 foot 9 inches. The highest is shown here. I think the dude was over 7 feet tall given the weight of his weapons and armor. Either way, to God be the glory for being with those who trust in Him!
@@kylearce9914 Again, being the champion, and how the accounts detail his armor, including a helmet which would have been bigger than normal like his armor, I don't think it is reasonable to conclude that a single stone from a shepherds sling is going to take out this champion without some form of providence or a miracle. I do think slings are formidable weapons, but hitting the head and impacting a thick bronze helmet to knock out the massive Philistine champion, all with one stone, from a shepherds sling, all of it is highly unlikely if David is not being supported by God. ru-vid.coml4kYSmlPEzA?si=gIpce6lbBrUk9jXE
@@kylearce9914 Here is a test against a normal size bronze helmet, and Goliath was a champion, and huge, and wore heavy armor. These factors mean that his bronze helmet would have been even harder to dent and knock him out. ru-vid.comw71Rr3GiVnQ?si=Elar4UWBVVRDy6bM
Perfect Strength by Perfect Weakness - WMB And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
I dont believe that a seasoned war vet with that large of a height advantage would fall to his knees from a damn sling shot. Like yea he’d be hurt but falling to your knees so a 5’3 david can finish you off? …..
The Hebrew cubit is estimated to be 18 inches but possibly as short as 16 inch because the average human was shorter so with that measurement he was between 8-9ft which is around the height of the tallest human in modern history except we was stringer and healthier than many men in modern history who are close too or taller than 8 feet. He was like a shaq but 1 foot or so taller
So in most hebrew translations it puts him at 6 cubits, and a span, which taking yoir small measurement is accurate. However there are the measurements in most Greek translations, and some Hebrew translations which say 4, or 5 cubits. I think this change was because after the Roman conquering of isreal the ancient Roman cubit started to become somewhat common, and well known even among jews. So translations written after that time probably used the Roman cubit as to not confuse anyone who was use to it. The Roman cubit measures almost 4ft in length. So with that in mind he'd still be anywhere from 9 to 12 ft tall. The main reason I think this is because no matter whether you get a translation that says 4, or a translation that says 6 cubits, the weights given for his armor, and spear remain the same. And if we are to assume he caps out at like 7ft tall, then that armor, and spear would be wildly unwieldy,. Like yes he'd be able to wear it, and move in it, but it wouldn't be something he could fight in by any means. But if he is 9/12 ft tall with proper proportions then this puts the weights of his spear, and armor at pretty manageable status for him to fight in.
The crazy part is Goliath wasnt the biggest giant in those days. Check out Mud fossils. Goliath could have reached the knees of some of these giants. Maybe even shorter. Goliath was probably the last of the breed if Giants
Forget Goliath being in the NBA. Imagine how terrifying it would be if he was a highly trained killer and warrior wielding a sword and spear bigger than anyone could carry with a voice deeper than Shaq....oh...he was
Probably. I just laid out how tall he'd probably be based on a few texts we have. I think realistically he was somwhere between 6'5" and 7'5" (similar to the Codex Vaticanus estimate). Hebrews being 5'4" or shorter would see him even at 6'5" as a giant. Whether he was 6'5" or 11', he was still a huge threat, and David killing him was an amazing feat. It would be like a normal man now going to fight hand-to-hand with Lebron James or Tacko Fall. Scary...
No 6'5 man would be able to carry 200 lbs of armor and a 20 lb spear. He would definitely have to be 700 lbs plus to carry that much weight effectively and not tire out.
