Absolutely no one knows what went on in the last two American wars thanks to the media. Things were both a lot worse and a lot better than they showed.
You never see slingers in any roman movie/show battles but they were pretty common, thousands and thousands of sling stones were found on 1 tiny roman battleground. Imagine these kids practicing every day until adults. They'd be snipers. Now imagine thousands of them all behind a giant wall of roman shields. What could stand up to that?
Its the same reason you dont see alot of thrusting weapons with battle extras (spears or thrusting rapiers) because controlling the set safety is difficult so you see dudes slashing with rapiers or whole ancient armies and everyone has a sword. Sucks the authenticity out. Same for not seeing slingers in movies. Just use archers, viewers wont know the diff.
Oh and not to mention the sound a good rock slinger makes cause the sling breaks the sound barrier. The snapping of rock slings and various whizzing noises of different size rocks flying overhead. Absolutely terrifying
The Greeks and romans often used lead ammunition that were cast by the hundreds. some were even inscribed with words like “CATCH!” And are found to this day. Oh god it’s wonderful to know our ancestors had a good sense of humor, even on the battlefield.
@@ThesavagesoulsI think what they really would be scared of will be drones and ANA warlords, the latter is gone for good but former I am not sure about.
This takes me back to travelling in Morocco and meeting similar young shepherd boys. They’d be far from home, away for a couple of days, sheltering in herders huts, food in a satchel and as happy as could be. They were all crack shots with thrown or slinged stones. The stones were used to steer the herd, no sheepdog needed. Such a joyous sound as they chattered and laughed as they went along. ❤
Slings were actually used alongside bows until the advent of the firearm, with similar effectiveness, in fact the sling could even kill an armored man with a well placed shot. So yes it is a very powerful weapon (they typically use it against wolves or to guide their flock)
@@Vecorix Yes. A Roman Consul (One of two rulers appointed by the senate in Republican Rome) by the name of Lucius Aemilius Paullus was hit in the head and killed by an enemy slinger. You'd think that being of such high office, he'd have the best armour and equipment available at the time, yet he died all the same.
One thing I hate in most fantasy and medieval style games, movies and videogames is how they completely nerf and underuse this highly lethal and very underrated weapon. Especially since Hobbits/Halflings are supposed to be known for their proficiency with sling type weapons in particular.
I think they look blessed, because they look happy with their lives, friendly with the camera, and probably thankful with god in their prayers. many people are hungry but they hace their animals yo eat. It seems they live their Sheppard life with no complain. God bless them.
You guys are awesome. My Dad made me a sling when i was a kid and taught me how to use it. I just wanna tell you kids im sorry for what my government is doing to your country. Alotta Americans believe our government is corrupt but we're not able to stop them right now. They have turned on their own people please keep that in mind if you meet any. Invading your country is our government and does not reflect our wishes as a people.
@Charles McFadden Nah, the Afghan war is a load of garbage with no end goal or real strategy, the sooner the US leaves and stops propping up warlords and pedophiles the better.
@@safwanahmed4248 15,000 US combat deaths vs. 300,000 dead terrorists. Yeah, we sure got our "asses kicked". Amazing you were able to write this comment with your busy schedule of smoking hash while your country crumbles around you. Maybe we should compare how your native security forces do in combat vs. those same terrorists when we tried to take the training wheels off and give them their country back.
Very nice, glad to see young people confident enough to demonstrate their skills with a camera present. Looks like they are having some fun and learning a useful skill as well :)
I saw the almighty GOD in these children's eyes this made me smile so much.....wow these youngsters really knew how to use those slings powerfully....what do you shot with those slings ????.....people!!! Looooool AWESOME
I can relate This naming animals and pets and livestock is a typically a western thing I fell for it when young I've lived on uk since 1996 now and back home on southern Africa we got two viscous dogs and they have no names My dad passed away and he used to name the dogs and mom never bothered yet those dogs still take orders and instructions without names😂
these normal innocent kids seem more accurate with a rock and a sling than a radical Muj with an AK-47. seriously those idiots make Stormtroopers look like elite snipers.
@@joshuafujiwara899 And if the M16 gets dirty it jams where.as if the AK47 gets jammed full of mud and sand you shake it out and keep shooting. Battle fields are dirty places. I'll take an AK47 unless I'm fighting in some place like a hospital..... That gets mopped and washed regularly.
@@chickenfriedbobcat6090 lol an AK47(or more likely AKM) jammed full of mud and sand will not fire in semi-auto any more than an M16/M4 will. Modern M16/M4s have a significantly higher reliability than Vietnam era M16s and will malfunction less than AKs if cleaned/maintained. The AK is still a very good rifle and was designed to be rugged and cheap to produce, but it will malfunction just like any other gun if not maintained, especially if it is as old and abused as many of the surviving AK47/AKMs around the world are.
Those aren't "slingshots", they are slings. A slingshot is a toy that uses a rubber band or tube which, when stretched turns the potential energy into kinetic energy to propel a mass. A sling, on the other hand, is spun at a high speed, using centrifugal force to impart kinetic energy to the mass at a much higher velocity than a slingshot. A slingshot is a toy; a sling is a weapon.
I fin a lot of the central Asian countries get overlooked just because of terrorism and such. The sheer beauty of the mountains and valleys throughout Afghanistan to Russia is breathtaking. I only find it annoying that it’s so costly to travel to those places
I'd like to know how they make their slings... I noticed that they use much longer lengths than I'm familiar with... get some torque out of the resulting centrifugal force, I'm sure... like a lot of amateur slingers, I've had trouble keeping the shot in the pouch... I will say that once I used an old automobile lug nut with a sling I put together, but half the length of the one these kids were using... anyway, I gave it a good underhand spin and let fly... that dang thing hit a stop sign about thirty - forty feet away with a big 'Spa-Dangggg' and put a dent in it... It makes you think what that would have done to person if I had better technique and a longer length of cord... I found that tapered 1 oz lead fishing weights are about the best ammo, in my experience...
Everybody always makes those with shorter lines but when I was younger I made one about the length they had there's and you would be amazed how well it works.
In ancient times, shepherds would pass the time by slinging rocks at trees, or boulders sticking out of the ground. When war came, slingers were rated just below archers. Very effective at breaking up infantry formations.
Early conquistadors rated the sling as being more effective than the bow. A sling as a barrage weapon has a lethal ranged up to 300 meters only Longbows and specialist composites can match that.
Cry Havoc picked one of these up for the first time in over 30 years. Have to learn again so I can teach my son how to make and use. During the summer will teach him how to make grass fiber rope and make one from scratch.
Slingers dominated long range duels. If u look at Assyrian or Egyptian carvings etc you'll see the archers in front of the slingers with shields meanwhile the slingers shot over their head at a greater distance.
I think I'm struck by what they said about the sheep~ they didn't know how many they had, but they knew each one of them by name and how they looked...... how beautiful it is that Jesus the Good shepherd ~ knows his sheep, by how they look and their names. ❤❤❤😭🙌🏻🙌🏻
Verses from the Quran about Jesus peace be upon him: [4:171] O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, “Three”; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. [4:172] Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah , nor would the angels near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant - He will gather them to Himself all together. [5:17] They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is the Christ , the son of Mary. Say, “Then who could prevent Allah at all if He had intended to destroy the Christ, the son of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?” And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates what He wills, and Allah is over all things competent. 3:84] Say, “We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him.” [5:75] The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded. [5:78] Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and of Jesus, the son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed. Jesus is a human being. How can a man with a date of birth be God? How can God come down in human form so that would no longer make him God since the definition of God is to be Supreme and no One is compared to and is the King of all kings and none can match. He has been created like you and me have. Created. A created being cannot be The Creator. He will be in shock as to why you called him God or the son of God when instead he is the Messenger of Allah. He was a human who ate and drank and went to the bathroom. On top of that Christianity also claims for him to be a Jew? How can he be Jewish? How can he be God or the son of God if he did all of that? And he literally came out of a womb so how can he be called the son of God or God?He is the beloved Messenger of Allah may peace be upon Jesus
Jesus was a Prophet and Messenger of God just like Muhammad, Abraham, Moses and others, peace and blessings be upon them all. He is not God, God is not a man, He is Unique and does not Die, he is All Knowing and All Forgiving.
I love Jesus but I don't worship him (peace be upon Jesus) I just worship God. I love my Christian friends though we stand together against de genera cy.
This reminds me of Sharpes duel. "He'll take your right eye out at a minute after eight and you'll spend the rest of the day looking at the sun with your left. It's
I believe they know their animals by appearance. When i had 50+ chickens i instantly knew if any were missing, because i recognised all of them. Knew their behaviour, wich ones were bought at the same time/age etc. And i didnt closely spend as much time with them like these boys and their herds.
Great to see kids who are genuinely content with life and smiling and happy...also not with their faces buried in a cell phone and not speaking to each other. Quite unlike the kids over here in the materialistic West who are never ever happy with what they've got and who are selfish conceited arrogant and rude
I was in Afghanistan in 2007-2008. I watched a shepherd boy use a sling to get the attention of a few sheep who were falling behind. He was at the base of the mountain and the sheep were walking and eating along the slope. They were at lest 30 feet above him . He would pick up a pebble and hit the sheep in the hip to get its attention. They were every accurate with these slings and knew exactly how much velocity to use. He didn’t want to hurt the sheep but if a predator came he could use it to kill.
This people in Afghanistan have such a powerfull history of "sending aggressor's back to their momy's".... you have to be honored to be defeated by them !
anyone who insults these humble sheperds and calls them "goat-f**kers" is worthless and without dignity, they are living with nature and have an honest life
