Available with V6 power and a long list of standard features, the Infiniti M30 was sold as a luxury coupe, eventually offering a convertible.
Launched in 1989 for the 1990 model year, the M30 stuck around for three model years in the North American market. In this episode, we’re going to take a look at the Infiniti M30 as well as its background in the Japanese market.

It’s funny how Infiniti switches their names around. The M30 was a coupe then turned into a M35/37/56 Midsize Sedan, The G20 was a FWD luxury Sentra SE-R then a RWD G35/37 now all of their cars are named “Q” like the flagship used to be! It’s obvious they are all over the place😵‍💫
@MotorMaster_Stunticon
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Год назад
Indeed! I recall when the Q50 came out it was quite confusing for many that didn’t know much about cars. The Q45 was always marketed as the full-size flagship and then the Q50 came out years later as a downsized, non flagship. Adding more to the confusion was the Q60. And yeah then the Primera G20 to the RWD 2003 G35. Yeah it’s safe to say they’re all over the place.

My mom owned one. A rare golden coupe. Super cozy. It was sent to a junk yard though once my brother blew up the engine. I was pissed.

I was at the LA Auto Show the year Infiniti launched. At the M30 display, I overheard someone say "I'd rather have a Thunderbird" which had also come out with a new model and was on display. It was also a coupe but larger and more suited to the American taste. Plus, the Leopard was already a few years old as you mentioned whereas the Thunderbird sported a crisp, new styling. Leopard was a more upscale car but people didn't know the difference. Another unfortunate thing was that the M30 was fitted with an outdated, bland, generic Nissan dashboard, not the stylish, updated one Leopard had. Infiniti just quickly slapped together the M30 to sell along side their flagship the Q.

Great vid! Yeah the M30 did look like a Stanza coupe since it was a mid 80s bodystyle lol. I always thought it was platform related to the z31 300zxs from 84-89 since it had similar drivetrain and rwd. Haven't seen a M30 in 5 years myself, but I think its been longer since I've seen a J30.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Год назад
Strong resemblance to the Stanza. Yeah I can’t recall the last time I’ve seen a J30. The J30s were beautiful but didn’t have that well-known Japanese reliability for some reason. Thanks for watching.

Had a m 30. The suspension was deemed obsolete and nobody had any replacement parts. I found a set of shocks for 1500 apiece. I paid 3000 for the car.

You did a great job. I liked the footage used to explain the M30. I liked the fact you mentioned the Toyota Soarer. I have seen them here on You Tube. They had cloth interiors and digital gauges in the home market. I noticed a lot of the Japanese models offered digital gauges in the home market, but when they were exported, they lost the cloth interiors and digital gauges. They tried to upscale them. You should see the Nissan President. It came here as a Infiniti. There are many others imported they changed slightly. Thank you for another informative interesting video.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Год назад
Yeah the Soarer still looks good to this day. I seen plenty of Nissan Presidents when I was in Japan too. It’s crazy how many cars they had in their JDM roster back then.

I noticed that the q45 looks like a bigger or sedan version of the 240sx especially the tail lights and the M30 is kinda like the luxury version of the 240sx

Great video as usual my friend! Very informative, I've never seen one in person. I actually prefer the pre-refresh Japanese market as opposed to the one we got. I think more power would have definitely helped it sell too
@MotorMaster_Stunticon
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Год назад
Yeah that 86 JDM model was/is beautiful. Simple yet elegant. More power would’ve helped the M30. Really Nissan? Only 162 hp in a $33k car? (In 1991 dollars, mind you) C’mon bruh!

I bought a M30 drop top in 92 for my wife. Though it had its share of problems with the convertable top, the car itself was trouble free and got nothing but compliments from people for the eight years of ownership. In fact it's the only car I've ever owned that I wish I had held on to. A real rare bird and head turner.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon

Yeah especially nowadays, they’re very seldom seen on the road and I’ll venture to say that 95% of the populace would have no idea what kind of car it even is.

I’ve always been quite fond of those early G20 sedans. They were underpowered and the styling was regarded as boring, but there’s beauty in subtlety, and the later ugly-azz over-styled G35/37 models proved that Nissan’s design had lost focus.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Год назад
Agreed. I like the simplicity of the earlier designs, like the 1990 Q45.
