My husband had a chance to purchase some old lockers. We have them on one side of our car port and store lots of things needed for car repairs in them. Standing jacks, antifreeze, oil, spare head lights, air compressor tool for airing up tires, brake fluid, powering steering fluid, WD-40 are only a few of the items

Another great episode of your life in the desert. Between the new build coming along and scaffolding to help you put up trusses you'll have a roof in no time. Jess's improvements in the geodesic dome for planting took shape pretty quickly. It'll be interesting to see your progress in the future. Jess if you add a dollop of grape jelly on the orange it will help attract orioles to your feeders. ❤

OK, generally I do not comment on people's lives but I am going to be a big buttinsky today because well I just have to know sooner rather than later. And I would rather not wait a week. I hope I am not too late to pass this along, and if you have already incorporated any of this I apologize in advance. But, as a former framer I have some observations, some questions, and some suggestions. Your prototype could use maybe a center web. What are you planning on attaching your trusses to? Are you going to set them on top of your lower roof's rafters or the rafter's "header"? What was the center spacing you used on the lower rafters? One side looks like 16" and the other 24". Are you planning on jigging this truss on the ground? And now to ease my OCD and ADD. Did you bolt those lower roof "headers" to those 4x4s? And, could you maybe add some blocking under those "headers"? It just makes me nervous and I see you get some wind and I would hate see your roof get lifted off. Over engineer everything. I know I am getting ahead of the story line, but, I have to ask. What type of roof is going on the upper section? Now, I am a retiree and I am living vicariously through you because I really miss Arizona so I worry about you. Now, I have already fallen off one roof so you kids be dang careful.

It's nice to see that you're building a structure over the door to the living/bedroom dome. I imagine that will be great protection from the strong winds when going in and out the door.

Build all of your trusses on the ground. (Those are called Trusses) They are small enough for two people to get them set. 😊 Set a couple of planks across the stairs and set a piece of plywood on that. Ladders will work then. 😊

Have you thought about incorporating cob as the insulation between your 4 by 4 barn supports? I'm still looking for the videos I saw a couple years ago. The concept was much like the dome regarding thermal mass & cost effective. The look would unify the two buildings as well. When I find those other videos, I'll send it to you if you're interested.

Jess, I cover the ground and all my plants with tulle fabric until late in the season. It is cheap, light as air and one has so much material there should always be enough. It does not disturb growth but keeps out a lot of critters. The colors are not that noticeable but fun to pick out. Usually 40 yards x 54" for $20.

for the part over the stairs just make a cat walk from the part of the roof you have finished raftered and you do know you can build all the rafters on the ground instead of one at a time running up and down the ladder and put them in place that is how it is usually done . you would lay them in upside down and a person on the ground would using a long pole roll the rafter up and stabalize it while it is nailed in place

This one makes me so happy. to see young kids like the 2 of you use eye-ear protection. if I only knew then what I know now. Right? So many questions. Been following you when you started you sandbag house, later called your cob home. Could you do an Update on the owner-builder Opt-out? I searched and found little of it from 2021 forward. Other then the dude that ran for elected office. last year he wants to increase the permit money to go to the county. up to 75%. which I know means the permits costs will be passed onto the owner builders. Todays age has gotten crazy. seems like more and more people want out of the rat race. Thanks in advance on if you do an update or not.😁
