I feel like the programmers of modern racing games had Phil in mind when they put the rewind feature in their games.

So DSP's logic is that he needs to play the previous two titles of a racing game series to learn how to not crash into trees?

'why are there trees in australia' why wouldn't there be? what the fuck does he think it's like, the moon?

Who would have thought aggressively accelerating a rear wheel drive muscle car with slick tyres on a wet hillside wouldn't make the car go straight ahead? You learn something new every day. Unless your name's DSP, of course.

that overuse of the scrubby rewind mechanic kills me. i'm dead.

As a car enthusiast, watching dsp play one of my favorite racers gives me some serious rod knock. I would hate to see how he drives in real life! 0.0

I really, REALLY want to see Phil play an older racing game. You know, one that doesn't have a rewind or checkpoint retry mechanic. He'd probably rage quit because he'd have to keep doing races over because he fucks up so much.

Things I've learned: 1. Rewind during races is for N00bs, it should have been restricted during races, but unlimited during free-roam. Rewind is useful for collecting the Bonus Boards that are on rooftops. A few other games also have Rewind, but it's limited to, I think 5 uses. 2. Red line = Braking Zone. This isn't Need for Speed where one can take the corner at 100+ in full drift. 3. If the car starts acting funny, let off the gas for a second. Even if the line thru a corner is all blue, it doesn't mean go full speed. 4. Wet roads affect traction, it's wise to be on the side of caution. This includes the rivers in off-road races, the water will unsettle the car, if checkpoints are nearby, the could end up being missed. 5. The skill challenges are easy, don't pay attetion to the difficulty. A combo of drift, jump and wreckage away from any solid obsticales will earn more than enough points to pass.

I always come back to this tihydp, not only is it great at showing Phils "skills" the editing like adding clips of the games he mentions at the start and the tree counter, seriously great work.

As someone who's watched a great deal of TIHYDP videos, THIS has been one of the best ones in recent memory. Great work.

He has a friggin minimap and still manages to miss all the turns. That's our Phil.

Anyone notice any time a wall or tree is directly in DSP's path, a mile ahead (giving Phil plenty of time to react)... DSP will just drive straight into it and blame the game?

it's strange watching this because he plays racing games like I did when I was 6 and first picked up F1 1997 i.e. 100% throttle or 0% throttle, nothing in between, use cars and walls as braking assists, etc. Except because rewinds didn't exist then, I had to learn how to play the games. Rewinds are probably why everyone online is an absolute moron in this game and why Phil never improved over the course of this shit lol

As far as the rewind feature goes, it shows DSP has no concept of momentum or inertia when he uses the rewind feature. He'll rewind to a point where he's already committed to an oversteer or understeer and not understand that it's too late to save the crash at that point. Over and over again he'll crash, rewind, then crash again because he just refuses to understand that his car is still going +80 MPH into that wall

How on earth can one person miss so many checkpoints, fly off a straight road, and hit SO MANY TREES!? What is he even looking at? Its obviously not the screen.

I think he probably would have quit this game like he quit Grid 2 if it wasn't for the fact that they give you unlimited rewinds. Grid 2 also had rewinds but they were limited based on the difficulty you were playing on at least

Rewind in a racing game...smh. Its like an "undo damage" option in Dark Souls. People who use this should be either ashamed or have no time to get better. That character select screen was brilliant.

I feel like Phil is making this game harder than it needs to be. I haven't played it myself but it seems like a lot of the tutorials and comments presented explain the game fairly well.

I think every single one of us went through this "phase" where we thought.. no. He's just acting. He's playing this bad on purpose, it's his gig. He acts all pissed off, plays the game like crap to get views - I was one of those guys as well. I mean, this amount of stupidity is just incomprehensible to a sensible human being - so we resort to the most logical explanation that it's all just an act. But the more you see... the more horrifying it gets.. when you reach that point and start to realize that all this... actually isn't an act. It's actually genuine. That breaking point is just scary man.

I just want to defend the rewind feature since everyone in the comments is slamming it, judging anyone who uses it and say it is ruining racing games. You can turn it off for more cash for the end of each race. Also, I doubt the developers would want people to rely on rewind like Phil here. Most decent players who would have this on probably would've used it 1-2 times per race and not a bazillion times per race like Mr. Scrub.

Really awesome video. Good work. I don't know why but when Phil plays a racing game, the fails are even more spectacular. Who else wouldn't know that a Lamborghini is "fast"? Fucking WHAT? It was the fastest car in the original Need for Speed, Mr. "one of the best gamers in the country".
