My experience... For 15 years I got my hair "trimmed" 4 times per year in an attempt to let it grow long...My hairdresser just trimmed off the ends each time. I have very fine hair. It never grew very much at all so I was left with shoulder-length hair. Then I decided to not get it cut at all because I was so frustrated at not having long hair. So for the past four years I have not had it cut at all and finally it is now waist length and I really love it... so I am continuing to let it grow... In my mind, Long hair is when you can sit on it... I am still trying to get long hair... It is now all-natural almost pure white and I love it so much! I am 73 years old...

Leeana... You are making me smile... When my hair was that long... years ago, I never found it a problem... Now, I have learned how to use hair sticks and so I can put my hair up that way and it's quite remarkable how much I am enjoying it... My niece has hair that is almost down to her ankles right now... I can't imagine how she is managing with 4 small children and she wears her hair down most all the time...

Long hair should be super healthy full of volume shine and vitality. Hair that you can sit on that’s not been trimmed? I guess if you love it then it’s ok for you

@@lilysmiles3195 I have always taken great care of my super, long hair (it is very healthy and comes to my butt). The reason I made that statement is because one of my life-long friends actually did that and I saw it happen along with hearing her neck pop. AND when I personally say a trim, that goes for both a cut and actual trim.. Sorry if I confused you!
@sophieb3905
@sophieb3905 4 года назад
@@lilysmiles3195 Technically, long hair "should be" the way it grows, without being messed around with too much, as that is what what would happen in nature. If you don't like that, that is fine - I'm not really into hair that is much longer than waist length, when dry, personally and I have my hair highlighted; so, I'm not just leaving it totally natural, myself. However, to say hair "should be" a certain way, when you actually mean that we have been told it should be a certain way, by a commercial industry, is wrong. It "should be" whatever it is naturally.

This is my truth - I had my hair cut into a shoulder length bob over 10 years ago. After having it that way for a year ,I told my hairdresser that I want to grow it long .Every 2 months I would go back for a “ trim” and every time she would say that in order for you to grow your hair I have to cut as much as I did .Well let me tell you for NINE YEARS my hair was one length but barely past my shoulders. I finally stopped going to her and in a years time my hair is now half way down my back is long and healthy. Now when I get my hair trimmed I show these scissor happy hairdressers with my fingers exactly how much to take off and tell them to shush when they want to take off more. My hair is healthy and shiny and long!

I never knew about dusting before until my daughter became a hairstylist. I had gone to many stylists in my life and never had a stylist offer a dusting or heard anyone ever talk about it. But when my 17 year old daughter went to school to become a hairstylist she found out from another stylist. So I get a dusting done from her and my hair has grown so much and is very long. I love getting a dusting besides my split ends cut. She now is a barber and loving it! Thanks for answering all the different questions that people don't normally get to ask a stylist or are to embarrassed to ask. 😊

My hair grows so slow when I cut it often it doesn’t keep the length. For me it’s better to hold off on trims. It’s the only way I can actually get more length. I’ve try both methods and cutting to often really keeps my hair short

Juliette Burgon Everyones hair grows endlessly. There is no terminal length when your hair just decides to stop growing. The roots don't care how long your hair is. It's the same for fingernails. It's not like our bodyhair that just grows to a certain length.
@johanna2690
@johanna2690 6 лет назад
My hair also grows super slow. I'm now 24 and I got it almost to my butt. I never got anything else then trims. So it's crazy! I get trims when I see the first splitends. In the past I got regular trims and couldn't get it below my bust. But since I'm super good to my hair, no Color or heat and good products I can go with less trims and get it longer and longer. It's sometimes just how you are born. My sister had shoulderlength hair when she was 3. At that age only my scalp was covered with a few locks😅 When your hair grows slow you need to find the Balance to get it longer. Of course when your hair brakes off you need to cut it. But don't have unnessesary trims when your ends are still healthy

@@johanna2690 Hair Growth Phases Anagen (Growing Phase) The anagen, or growing, phase usually lasts 2-7 years, and the length of this phase determines the length of our hair. Catagen (Transition Phase) This is the transitional phase that lasts about ten days. ... Telogen (Resting Phase) ... Exogen (Shedding Phase) So yes. If your growing phase is pretty short and I that time your hair doesn't grow as fast as some others and you have to get trims because of split ends.... Your hair never makes it down to your butt. Like mine for instance

As someone who helps my friends with their hair, I can completely understand how the prices can differ based upon the hair you're starting off with, and the non-guarantee of what will happen once you have to... dig deep. I don't charge my friends, it's a friend thing,. But I know for sure, it's the cost of product, hair remover/bleach/moisture. conditioning, color, and if one's hair is thick, more color is needed. It's the time it takes and the ability to be able to tell what color is most complementary, blue? What shade of blue... There is so much a hair dresser can do if they know what they are doing. I've had 2 wonderful hair dressers/colorists in my life. Yes, it cost more, but I didn't feel like I needed to rush home and fix anything. Which if you pay a chain store price and rush home to fix it, you will spend a great deal of money on product, even the same amount of money you would spend on getting it done right in the first place, vs. buying product to fix it yourself. However, just because someone charges more does not mean they can do the job. I prefer references. And also feel portfolios are essential to prove to your clients, you can do, this, this, this, this, and this.

Always love your content and that you provide us viewers with accurate and helpful information! There is SO much misinformation out there on the net! Anyway. As for subject matter for a video I would like to see, or even if you could just tell me your personal opinion on this, I have been wondering how you feel about using Redken for haircoloring when it comes to doing redheads. I love their toners and I've now recently begun playing with their colorgels a little bit too but have only used brown and blonde shades. I'm in cosmo school at the moment, getting near to being done come Dec (yay!! 😊) and one of my instructors really likes Redken as well but she said the only thing she doesn't like is their reds. I'm considering going from blonde to red (like a copper/strawberry blonde) and was going to just use Wella. (I do my own hair, it's fun. Lol.) But I'm just so curious to know your opinion on Redken's reds. I know you're an ambassador for them, so asking a question like this is probably kinda silly. 😆 but I think a video on their reds would be really cool! 💜💜

I really need your advice.. I always had issues with my hair having this gold undertone when I really wanted it to be a cool tone bold. I tried a lot of different hairdressers and never got the result I wanted. My natural color is sort of light brown. I was really frustrated so I went to the most expensive and well known hairdresser that I could find to get a cool toned balayage. And I have to say that it really turned out exactly at I wanted it to be. But 1 month down the road I was totally back to my golden undertone in most part of the hair despite having used silver shampoo and silver toners. I don’t know what do to anymore after years of being extremely frustrated about this. When I went in to the hairdresser who did the balayage he said there is nothing he could do about it as some people just have a lot more red pigment in their hair. I feel I really tried everything, spent so much money, yet never got the result I wanted. Is it really true that it is just not possible for some people to continue to have a cool blond in their hair?! I am really frustrated and even thought about just going brown again cause I can’t stand this golden tone anymore and am so sick of seeing in the mirror. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks a lot ❤️ I love watching your videos so much!

Try purple shampoo or purple toner instead of silver. The purple neutralizes yellow/brassiness and makes greyish/cool tones. :)

@@maximamustermann3744 same here, I just use a mix of conditioner and violet hairdye of the brand direction (ratio 2:1) and have to live with my hair being a little violet and silver. But it usually turns out a cool blonde after washing my hair for the first few times. Or maybe try the wella toners if not already, personally haven't tried it but heard it works pretty good

@Mr. Thanks for the tip, I will try the violet direction mixture. How do you use it and for how long do you leave it in?

Thanks for explaining the hair trim/growth. I went to get touch ups on my roots a few weeks ago and my hair dresser told me my roots were a little more than 4 inches. I thought she was wrong because the last time I had my highlights was around 5 months before that. That would mean my hair grew pretty fast but I definitely didn't gain that 4 inches in length. I knew I had major roots but I thought she was crazy telling me it was that much, it didn't make sense! Lol... P.S - I live in L.A. and NEED to go see you in the new year. You're sooo talented, plus I need a trip to SF again!! 💕

Have you ever heard of the Split Ender? It’s a tool that basically gives you a “dusting “. I would LOVE to see a video on it.

Great video as always. Just something to add, the skin of the cucumber is like the cuticles of the hair, pigments exist in the cortex (cucumber flesh) so the lightening magic etc (the removal of pigments)occurs in the cortex not the cuticles (cucumber skin).

hi Silvia! can i ask for advice? i am 34, mother of a 10month old baby boy, and recently i decided to stop coloring my hair due to many reasons: i don’t have time or money to do it every two weeks to maintain it neat.. i started going gray when i was 14 years old, and by now i’m completely grey (darker shades of grey with lighter grey on one side of head...) i happen to like natural gray hair on younger women, my hubby likes this new (not so new anymore) trend of silver hair color on girls and women, so i decided to go grey! but, i was coloring my hair dark brown; then a hairdresser advised to put some highlights and tone it silver.. but she sad it was to dark to go with highlights and advised to put bleach on my hair to lighten my hair color first and colored it in somewhat brassy and said to come back in a month or two to get those highlights (and silver tone).. i was wondering what would you do to help me get my hair as close to my natural grey color? i’m afraid that she doesn’t know what’s she’s doing (i cannot afford expensive professional hairdresser who would knew what to do), and don’t want end up cutting hair because she could fry it with so much bleach or something... please help, any advice would be great! greetings from croatia!! ana

My hair was REALLY long & permed & hi-lited. But I used good products. My hair is really fine & thin but grows fast. It's been very very straight all my life, now it's wavy!!!!!! Virgin hair is wavy. I've never heard of that! Has anyone???? (I love it!)

Why do hair stylists usually say, I can't give you the "exact estimate", umm...do u kno what an estimate is???
@amyk8488

Um if you say a price people hold you to it. They act like its written in stone. Very annoying.

You ever give someone an estimate and they go off when it’s more than said estimate? That’s why. Because if we give an “estimate” people see it as the price.

I always cut the ends off because I dont want them to break off, if they break off I’ll loose much more length than just cutting it off plus it looks a lot better without split ends

Hi Ellebangs! Thank you for your videos, you always do such a great job, and are very informative. I have a question stemming from your last Q&A. Since blonde hair doesn't fade, but picks up environmental things that can eventually dull it, i s there something I can use at home to remove those factors and brighten it back up? Thanks!

The only time my hair got very long is when I stopped going to a hair stylist and getting it cut. When I got it to the point where I only wanted an inch cut to make it more even I found a hairstylist who listened to me. My friend gets her hair cut every two month and it always looks the same. No growth.

So the last explanation was great, but what do you do when your blonde highlights or whatever get dull from products, environment, etc? Re-bleach it? Or will a clarifying shampoo do the trick? Or khelating (Chelate? spelling? Sounds like key-late, lol) Your hair? I'm talking bout the lemon Dawn dish soap process you taught us, anyway will that help? Or what can we do about "dull" blonde hair?

Fabulous video! I went blonde from a level 1.5 a couple years ago. I love the look, but my stylist failed to tell me how much maintenance would be necessary and how taking care of level 9 hair is way different than taking care of darkened hair. Baby it, tone it, and baby it some more. Did I mention to baby it??

I found what looked like a downy feather on my shirt and on closer inspection it was a broken off split end and I mean like SOOO many splits it could have been used as a paint brush! I have really fine hair and try to get a trim every 3 months but I think I need them more often because while my hair has grown longer I now need to trim off over a inch due to dry, spilt damage. 😭

Learned a lot from this video. I do have a question though, I am growing out my bangs and because I am over 50, my hair does grow a bit slower than it did when I was younger. Can you share some options for styling longer bangs? I like a bit of volume and with my bangs being a bit thin (my hair is also fine textured), I could use some help. Thank you!
