I've never seen a hair dresser recommend washing the hair every day

Whitney Schauffler She recommends daily because when you shampoo your hair, the hair grows. Maybe only apply shampoo daily to the bald parts

its starting to get recommended more and more by specialists especially for oily/fine hair, because the scalp needs to be cleaned just like the skin on your face and body.

thats when referring to hair quality, and often times we forget where that hair is coming, the scalp. Its just as important not to neglect the scalp. The scalp is skin just like your face, can you imagine not washing your face for a week?

I definitely would also recommend working out! I've seen amazing results with cardio. I believe it is because when you exercise the blood flow stimulates your scalp and improves your overall health and therefore hair health. Hope this helps anyone! :)

Not only are you so knowledgeable and experienced in your industry but you are the nicest, kindest, and most humble hairdresser ever. I looooove your personality and your selflessness in wanting ot help others look their best. I have ordered the monet and redken products and can't wait for them to come in. i am usually very cautious and careful about what i order, and i have to say i blindly trusted you from the beginning. This is the single MOST important and useful video on proper hair care I have found. And I have looked through hundreds!!! The part about really scrubbing your scalp often (with good quality shampoo) to me is groundbreaking. Thats so true!!!! Poor little baby hairs have a hard time growing through build up. Just wanted to thank you, finally got me on track. Subscribed. :)

Hi, Elle! I just wanted to share a recent experience that I had this Summer. One day I noticed that my 8-year-old daughter had significant hair loss in the front hairline. She has very thick, beautiful hair, so this was somewhat distressing to me. She had been taking swimming lessons 4 days a week and I thought that this might be the cause, so I was careful to use a clarifying shampoo one a week and I always use salon-grade products on her hair...the ones I use for myself (Matrix, Loma, etc.). It turns out that she was vitamin C deficient....yes, scurvy has made a comeback! She also had bleeding gums, but I thought it was due to not flossing enough. She had also complained of muscle and joint pain, for which I brought her to her pediatrician twice and it was thought to be a combination of biomechanics and growing pains. She is a very picky eater and has not had a balanced diet in years. I've always given her a multivitamin and Vitamin D, but she wasn't getting enough vitamin C, which is essential for skin, hair, connective tissue, and wound healing! So, I recently started her on children's vitamin C supplements, too. I thought I'd share this with you and your subscribers because we may not get enough of the essential nutrients, even with a proper diet. So, your supportive opinion of hair vitamin supplements may be useful to some people. Thanks! I love your channel! Warmest regards, Kerri

Thanks for the wonderful tips! I always feel like I learn so much from you! Sometimes I put EVOO in my hair and really soak it over night and it makes such a difference. I notice when I workout more that I lose A LOT more hair. Maybe because I have it in a tight bun but I've tried wearing slow pony tail to stop some of the fall out. We'll see if that helps! 😫 Thanks for sharing!! 💚

This makes so much sense. My whole life, I've washed my hair every other day and I've never had a problem with the growing process or dryness. Last May I decided to go every 3-4 days because everyone was saying your hair would grow faster and be healthier. Since then, my hair has been the worst its ever been - very dry and barely growing. I'm definitely going back to every other day now. Thanks ♥

I had a lot of hair loss, a couple of years ago from health issues. I started on a powder drink mix, with vitamins and MINERALS. I also rinse about once a month with vinegar mixed with water, for my scalp. I've grown back A lot of my hair. I don't think a lot of people realize how important minerals are. I think for me, they are key..

there is absolutely ZERO science in your video 5:00 no, if a follicle opening gets clogged, you will get ingrown hair. remember that it's also surrounded by skin cells that shed continuously Apple cider rinse does nothing for cleaning the scalp. It's mildly acidic (like all conditioners and like your hair is) so it restors the Ph balance and closes down the hair shaft (cuticles) thus making the hair feel smoother and look shinier. please check the science before you make recommendations, esp if it's for people undergoing chemo or suffering from alopecia following the logic of "if you don't shampoo hair, the follicles will clog up and die off" one would assume that un until 100 or so years ago people just went bald very early in life, which is false. to keep your hair in it's optimal condition 1) don't over-wash, 2) have a healthy diet and supplement if there are any deficiencies 3) stimulate scalp through mild irritants (things that make it tingle like rosemary, peppermint, turmeric, chilli or mustard extracts/oils OR even some branded products, the idea is the same) or through regular massage to encourage the delivery of the nutrients to the follicles.

Thank you Elle, I never thought about maybe washing my hair more to get it to grow... I have noticed thinning around my hairline for over a good year now. My hair has always been on the thick side. I had always joked that if my hair thinned out as I got older no one would notice. But with it thinning around my hairline it is extremely noticeable by me. I'm going to use some of these tips and see what happens. Definitely worth a try.

@Ellebangs
@Ellebangs 7 лет назад
+Victoria Huan raw acv is in fact alkaline and it restores your hair's pH balance
@Vstrwbery
@Vstrwbery 7 лет назад
I find your videos entertaining, but it is simply not true that raw ACV is alkaline. The natural pH of the skin tends towards acidic (less than 7) and so acv might restore pH balance by making the scalp surface more acidic. If you ask any chemist (or anyone who knows anything about acid-base properties) the fact is that acv is acidic. There is a lot of misinformation out there, sometimes propagated by people in beauty, and some things are just factual and not based in opinion.
@emic138
@emic138 7 лет назад
ellebangs Sorry, but Victoria Huan is absolutely correct. ACV (even raw ACV) is an acid; it only becomes alkaline when digested in the body and the acetic acid gets decomposed. She's also right about the obscene amount of misinformation on the internet, unfortunately.

Some things that have worked for me are: 1. water filter (Berkey) for my shower made a huge difference. Hard water can cause so much breakage. 2, Reduce the amount of carbs you are eating, particularly if you older like me (50). Stick with it. It can take a couple months of eating less carbs to notice a difference in your hair and skin. 3. Iron, Zinc, and B vitamin supplement . 4. Do a weekly oil treatment. (I put olive oil in my hair and wrap it in plastic bag). 5. Weekly ACV scalp treatment (just rinse your hair with ACV in the shower once a week). Don't wash your hair every day... do not do this. Your nature oils really help hair health.

Great info! I'd always had very fine, thin hair. Lost it all to chemo. It came back even thinner. I am using Rogaine 2 years now. I think it helps to a small degree. Enough so that I keep buying it anyway. You mentioned wigs. I was one of those chemo patients who wore wigs 100% of the time. I wore a wig during regrowth until my hair was covering my ears. Problem was the elastic wig band was breaking off my new bang growth which led me to Rogaine.

These are some good ideas for hair loss...going to a dermatologist is also good for input for hair loss. However, when I first went, the doc kept saying it was stress. Turned out I had a serious illness that they hadn't caught yet- so not to scare anyone, but it's just a good idea to listen to your body & get things checked if you feel like the hair loss is too much or been happening too long....:)

Diana Klato I give my hair a wash first then in about a litre of water a few tablespoons. Well one slosh from the vinegar bottle pour over my head. Leave for about 2 minutes rinse then shampoo again. No smell. It' restores ph levels. Clarifys and makes your hair soft. Not confident on saying it thickens hair. But my hair is in better condition therefore growing faster. Hope this makes sense

Help! I heard so many times, even from professionals that not washing your hair everyday is better for your hair because the natural oils keep your hair and ends healthy. But recently I got sick and didn't wash my hair for a week (I had a really bad flu) and I noticed my hair was a bit thinner, and my crown area on my scalp became sensitive. So it's better to wash your hair more often? I grew up with pretty thick hair and lots of it but ever since I used the take your time to wash your hair technique I noticed it's not how it use to be. BTW thank you for this video! ❤

Silvia, I love the tone of your blonde. What would I describe to my stylist to get blonde tone like that? Thank you!

For my case, i realized i needed clarifying shampoo once in a while because my hair and scalp is oily. I am also having alopecia areata (coin shaped bald spot), went to derma a week ago and was injected with steroids. Now im getting new hair springing out but like what Elle and my derma has mentioned, if it is hormonal or stress related, there is no way to reverse it. It will continue to shed until you become totally well. Im also taking 2500mcg biotin (as a starter) and noticed my hair shaft near the roots looks thicker in the last 2 weeks.

I have a question and your really the only one that I trust and faithfully watch when I need answers about my hair. I very recently was diagnosed with Telogen Effluvium which is a form rhair loss and in the past 2 months I have lost 50% of my hair and as a woman it’s been very hard. The dermatologist says it won’t last that it will grow back but very slowly and not sure when. I know you believe in monat products and was wondering if this would help me? I am in desperate need of anything at this point. Thanks so much..❤️

How about laser treatments ? I've got to say this old lady actually learned some new information and enjoyed your presentation immensely. I've got some hair loss issues. For every day going out, I use topix or cabooki, which are fibers that add thickness to thin hair, It's not hard to do and hasn't yet come rolling down my face in the rain. lol If you could just say a few words about Laser Max. I'm thinking about getting one and QVC offers a 3 or 6 month return on them.

What about breakage from ponytails or wearing hair up?? I have to have my hair fully up for work, and I notice a lot of breakage near where the bun is. Is there a better option on how I could wear my hair up to prevent most of the breakage?

Hi ! I was wondering if you would consider doing a tutorial on Velcro rollers and how to do them in a hurry with heat? And i've also noticed that you do a lot of videos on how to tone blonde hair and brassiness, but could you do a tutorial on how to tone grassiness and brighten blonde highlights on brunette hair? Thank you so much!

the hairs too heavy so its breaking. people usually use dry shampoo to make oily hair look clean when they don't have time to wash which is a lot of build up in the hair weighing it down- maybe this applies to you. if so thats what the cause it

Jane doe yes, there's unfortunately a lot of correlation with using dry shampoo and hair loss. google the two for recent articles by glamour mag, refinery29, and the atlantic, just to name a few.

Me too! I used to wash my hair every day and it was so thick. After I started getting it colored I switched to about 2 times/week and my hair seems to be getting thinner. My hair is already heavy (pulling it up gives me a headache) so maybe the dry shampoo is adding to the problem. I think I'm going to try washing it every other day and see what happens.

I think you can still use dry shampoo as long as you wash it out the same day or the next. Otherwise it has too much time to clog the follicle.

When applying oil on the scalp, do you need to wash it off after a couple of hours? If you keep it on too long, would it clog the follicle?

Okay, I'm giving up dry shampoo. I used to have very long & thick hair that I washed daily with no issues, but after using it for years my hair has gotten so thin at the top and I'm very self conscious about it. Do you have any thoughts on products like the Alterna exfoliating scalp facial? I've been thinking of trying it.

These tips are too general and are not bad for keeping your hair healthy in general. At max rely on those in between season changes when most people experience a more abundant hair fall. However, IF you see drammatic change in your hair thickness to the point when you see patches or receding hair and shiny scalp, the only good advice to give is - GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR! Because it can be ANYTHING, from hormones to alopecia to blood or endocrine or liver or stomach problems etc. And you definitely don't want to take in something without knowing exactly what your problem is and what your body is short of. And only screenings can help to identify.

I'm confused now, I always thought washing hair daily was terrible for your hair. I stopped doing it because I'm bleach blonde and my hair was super frizzy from it (I was using drugstore back then though). Now I wash it twice a week, but I do notice that I get a lot of hair coming out when I do wash it. My hairdresser told me hair tends to shed more when it's unwashed, which explained things but alarmed me. I am trying to get my hair health back, this place I went to stuffed it up with bleach and heaps just snapped off. It's super damaged now, but the regrowth seems healthy. I am washing it less because I got told that oils on the hair is good, keeps it healthy. Should I start washing it daily again? I have fine hair and I want the health back but I also don't want thin hair :( It definitely used to be thicker. Sorry for the essay! I would appreciate some help! For reference I use the Davines Naturaltech nourishing shampoo and the Davines Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner. Thank you :)
