Slight correction, "dracul" means devil, or the devil, but back in 1400s it meant "the dragon". The reason him and his father had this name is due to their alliance to the order of the dragon, an ancient catholic military order symbolised with a flaming cross.

Bran has changed so much since I first visited in 1999. Back then, it was dusty, quiet and not many tourists around. It’s definitely built up a lot since then which is good for the locals.

Ohh geez. I hope you guys still manage(d) to also visit the Peleș (Pelesh) castle. IMO that castle is the most beautifuI castle from Romania. HopefuIIy you see it in a Iess rainy day haha :D

You are so lucky being the only visitors, so you can thank Covid still for that. Before 2020, stampede with chinese, asians and americans and other non-european ppl, so you made a pretty good decision to visit Rou when it is at its lowest covid infection rate, summer of 2021, lesss than 100 in the summer months when Rou had 4-5k in march ;) :D

"Drac" is devil in Rou too, but Vlad the Impaleres name, that Dracula/Drăculești family name means actually ”of the Dragon” and his father was a member of the Dragon Order which was a knight order that fought for christiany and against islam and the dragon is maybe the killed dragon of saint George. ”...The Prince of Wallachia Vlad II Dracul, the father of Vlad the Impaler, took his name from the Order of the Dragon...”(Wiki for Order of the Dragon - it seems I cant paste here the wiki link)

Alas though... Castelul Bran is, I'm afraid to say... no more than a tourist trap. Vlad III Ţepeş (Vlad "the impaler" Dracul) never really had anything to do with said castle... he Did however have quite a lot to do with castelul Poenari. 👍👍🙂🙂

I think romanian people have to promote more this myth and castle. I'm from Argentina and many times when i'm speaking with a romanian about Dracula's Castle he/she is telling me from the beginning : "this is not true". Why? All the coutries from the world has myths from which are making money! My regards guys!

That is true. Unfortunately there is this cultural aspect in Romania, where we are the first to put ourselves down, or downplay nice things, take the magic out - we're the first to not appreciate ourselves, so we don't know how to promote things in a positive way. Always leading with the negatives..

@@dejans.8139 Visited all of these Balkan countries multiple times and no doubt, Serbia has least too offer and nature in Serbia is lacking big time, except Tara and Zlatibor region, but that is just small part. Even Bosnia looks much better then Serbia.

Romania is 160 years "old" artificial state , the "romanian king" was purchase in Germany in 1866.
