@@Thankyou_3 I've had it three days , actually haven't driven enough for a definitive answer. I reset the mpg monitor and it's showing 18.5 but can't verify that. The GX 470 i had was getting around 16.
Car care nut was concerned over a missing clip! Just goes to show what a meticulous, reputable and conscientious mechanic he is. What a blessing he is to all of us.
I have a 2013 LX570 and it is in very similar condition. The undercarriage might look even BETTER than this GX. I do all my own work myself and I continue to be amazed at how well built the LX vehicles are. Thank you for your videos.
Excellent condition GX460... CarNut would be blown away by the condition of cars in SoCal... our 95 camry has zero rust when we sold it in 2021 😆 less rust than this vehicle and it had 300k on it...
Just bought a 2023 GX with 3,000 miles on it. I got the best of the last version of this car. Like all my vehicles I plan to service everything myself like I have always done. Still love the naturally asperated V8's over the newer 6 cylinder turbos out there.
This vehicle looks like it probably was their 2nd vehicle , that they drove around on the weekends looks like only about 8,000. miles a year and garage kept that's why it looks so nice after 12 years
Good point about a dealership letting you see under tje car but I highly doubt they will due to health and safety grounds & liability incase vehicle falls off the ramp. No harm in asking for a video or pictures though. Fantastic idea!
Really depends on the dealer. I have asked a few times and I did have one dealer put it on the rack and gave me the opportunity to look underneath, I really appreciated that
A vehicle with 95K and you can see all the quality control and production line markings… AMAZING! Doubtful that this vehicle saw much if any rain. A wonderful well kept vehicle.
It’s incredible that is doesn’t even have a single ding for that year. How is that even possible? I’ve gotten dings from the dealer when my vehicle was new and was forced to take it there. And, got dings at the grocery store even though I parked far away, and there’s always that one person who wants to park next to you even with 100 empty spots around. That owner must of been lucky. Incredible find!
same level of rust as my 1999 Land Cruiser, all it's life in Southern California. Interior isn't as nice but 23 years old and 180k miles. Just wish his shop was in my area! Would love to have him keep my Toyota going.
AMD, Congratulations on passing 350,000 SUBSCRIBERS👏👏👏👏 As much as I admire this luxurious Lexus GX, I prefer its poor brother the Prado. Just give me one with a simple 2.7 engine, base suspension and humble cloth interior and I will be just fine. 😁😁
Yes, cars like this are normal in the south, underneath, that is. Myb12 uear old venza looks exactly like that feom the bottom. Top, ugghhh, is a different story.
First, I am not a mechanic. As a result of your recommendations I just bought a new 2022 Toyota Corolla SE at MSRP ( one honest salesman--who has not been trained on how to "sell". Thank You! ) This is my first Toyota. I am following all of your instructions about care of the car as well as engine break in instructions: Use caution with braking the first 200 miles and excessive idling and engine acceleration/RPM and prolonged speed for first 500 miles ( I stay below 2000 RPM). I bought the Toyota filter and 0W-16 oil for my first oil change at 1,000 miles which will be done by a local mechanic using my filter and oil. I have studied the maintenance manual and talked to the Dealer service department about the included Toyota care "maintenance". Initially, at 5,000 miles it is supposed to include tire rotation, fluid top off and not much more. I talked to the service manager and was told they will not change oil unless I direct them to and pay for it. Not a problem. I found a few words in the maintenance manual that says " 5,000 mile oil change ONLY for excessive idling such as police, delivery and other. I will use the "other idling". I know there are many different required Toyota oil filters and oil required for these vehicles based up on year, model, engine and Toyota MFG requirements for warranties. This will be a large inventory! My question is this: How do I absolutely know that the Service department will actually use the filter and oil I give them to do the job? With all the shenanigans I hear about from former Toyota Service technicians ( not you of course) , I wonder what is really going on? I have already been lied to a few times by the Toyota Parts department and the service department! Example: "Toyota does not have part numbers for its vehicle components". Say what? My mother once told me .."Lie to me once shame on you lie to me twice shame on me". Why do Toyota parts online and other dealers have part numbers and you don't?? I asked the service department which oil to use ( I gave them my VIN number) and they did not know!?? I do not want to take advantage of anyone but do not want to be cheated. Will I need to buy auto ramps and a lift to change my own oil? Lots of new Toyota owners have the same predicament: We want to TRUST the service technicians, but how do we know? Illinois is a long way to drive to get an oil change done correctly.
I have a 2008 4RUNNER Limited and it is a tank. Over 350k and still going. 4-6 months out for a new one but can't get it in a V8. Great vehicle and great video.
Hi AMD, your videos are excellent, if I could suggest that in general you answer some of the questions in the comments, there are a lot of genuinely good comments which should be answered. All the best from Greece.
Ty AMD, it is always a total pleasure to watch your videos but especially wonderful when you show your passion for car care nuts who devote love and attention to keep their vehicles perfect. I always feel much better knowing I am not alone in devoting love attention and time to my car, as I take great pride knowing it is as perfect as when it left the factory here in Australia. Ty my friend it was a delight. Please pass on a well done and congratulations to the owner and thank him for sharing his beauty with us all. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘
Here in dubai we have the same shape (almost) but I its toyota prado with the 4.0 v6, 2.7 4 cylinder, and a lexus GX with a 4.6 v8, most toyota are excellent cars and very reliable.
I was also of the opinion that the 4RUNNER was one of Toyotas Best, until I actually purchased one. I bought a new 2020 Limited, and tried real hard to love it, but after 15000 miles, I had to get out of it. I had 3 major concerns, One being gas milage, I was getting 12-13, no matter how I drove it, Second was the aerodynamics, this vehicle was all over the road in the wind, and in Oklahoma, it's always windy, Thirdly was the annoying transmission that would downshift itself from 5th to 4th and never float back to 5th, I was always forced to have to do it manually. What a pain. When I took in in for the 15k service, the dealership told me that this was all normal 4RUNNER behavior, so I told then to keep it, and I ended up with a new 2021 Highlander Platinum, and I am very happy with it so far🤞
Yeah, the 4runner is really old school and I'd only really get one if you live near bad roads or like to go offroading. The highlander is better in almost every other way for the average person.
I love my 2011 premium in tungsten pearl, black analine with the Mark Levinson sound upgrade with 116k. Best vehicle I've owned. I live Maine and will be applying some fluid film this fall. Much respect. Keep up the great work!
You should advise the owner to change the plastic oilfilter housing to an aluminum one from a 2GR/4GR. I did this to my wife's 2015 GX460 as those plastic housings love to break.
The GX is one of the best kept secrets, you can buy them cheaper then a 4Runner in many cases. At least you used to be able to... things might be changing with the car shortages. I have a 4Runner in Arizona, garage kept so the paint and interior will stay very nice.
Please, pretty please when you talk about awesomeness of GX 470/GX460 please whisper, so others will not know and let’s keep this as top secret! I owned a 2008 Lexus GX470 for almost 8 years, bought it with low mileage only 29,800 miles. Currently, my tank (GX470) has around 138,500 miles. Only the alternator has failed in those almost 8 years of ownership! Have kept up with the preventative maintenance to avoid serious problems in the future. Change the motor oil with original Toyota 5W-30 every 5,000 miles religiously. I am very happy with my Lexus truck. Will keep this truck as long as I can and eventually will buy another used GX truck, probably a Gx460. Will not sell my GX470 even if I get a used GX460.
My wife drives an '09 GX470 with almost 225,000 miles, still going strong. My father-in-law drives an '06 LX470 with over 303,000 miles, original owner, also still going strong. I will be in the market for an LS430 at some point before the end of the year, which will be my third. I've regretted trading my LS430's each time. Nothing beats old school Lexus!
I will also never forget the time my local Toyota dealer put the transfer case in Neutral before returning the GX to me. Good thing they didn't park it on an incline!
Just passed a 470 with 235,000 miles and moderate rust on to my son and replaced it with a 2016 460. I loved the 470 but had planned to replace it with a tacoma. After test driving a taco I couldn't do it. Ended up I'm a newer gx.
@@edwinyoder06 Toyota desperately needs to address the poor seating position in the Taco. I traded my last LS430 on a brand new Tacoma in 2021 and my chiropractor almost immediately noticed my back having issues.
The amount of love you have for cars, specially Toyota is remarkable. Reminds me of my late old man. He loved, loved cars. He was an old VW guy owned over a 100 in his lifetime. I remember how exited he used to get talking about cars.
There is no doubt, Lexus is Lexus. Luxury German and Italian cars are nice but not as reliable and well made as Lexus. Japanese workers, in my humble opinion, are the best in the world, for them honor comes first and they reflect it in their work. I always look for cars made in Japan, and although some Lexus are now assembled outside of Japan, workers in Canada and the USA were selected and trained by their Japanese counterpart.
My 2005 GX470, So Cal, Palm Desert car, is still completely rust free, not even surface rust in the undercarriage even to this day. I am still impressed by how well it held up. Only things that need replacing are the rubber window moulding and rear air suspension bags since they crack and break apart after a decade or so. Same with my LX570. My 99 4Runner on the other hand had some surface rust, but that is easily treated. It all comes down how well the owners take care of their vehicles.
First, I love your Wisdom, Insights and Guidance that you Share on your Awesome videos Thank You Very Much!!!... Please let me know about doing undercoating on used vehicles and what types of processes do you recommend and the type of shop to go for service... :-) THX GARY... (I'm in the W-DC Metro Area)
Hello I just came across your page, you are awesome and very knowledgeable. I watched your 5 parts series on how to maintain Toyota. I wish you did for Lexus GX. Please could you share required service when one gets a used Lexus GX 460 with 126k miles. Looking fwd to your response
Dear Author I love your job and the content you create - professional and educative. I have the very same car as in that video and my KDSS has got a lean to the right hand side. Could you please make a video about KDSS and it's common problems. I live in Australia and I struggle to find a good KDSS specialist in my area. Thanks a lot. Take care. 👍
My little Toyota Etios 2014 engine bay and underside are even cleaner! Never ever seen a single drop of oil, and I have never ever washed the engine bay, well maybe once a year with a towel to get the fine dirt but that's it, nothing is leaking, it looks brand new, and I use it a lot! About the interior that's waaaay too fanatic for my taste, don't get me wrong I like clean cars! But I won't be cleaning mine every day, I got things to do, having say that I keep with the maintenance, oil and ALL filters every 6000 km, transmission every 25000km, sparkplugs every 5000km, Toyota coolant every 5 years, I check for moisture on the brake fluid, I check acidity level on the coolant, etc. I won't forgive if it let me stranded, but i make sure everything is good enough with enough security marging so it will never happens, those are fine machines, but you need to do your homework of course
Hello Amd, Congrats on opening the new shop. I have a question about the thermostat bypass that you mentioned you need to press when servicing the transmission. My 18 GX460 has that. I did the fluid change but didn’t know i had to worry about that part. How do you change trans fluid with that thermostat present?? Thank you
I bought a friends 'baby', a 2008 ES350, absolute showroom, and now only 32000 miles. Looks like the same color, had all the options, just an excellent vehicle and smells like brand new inside. I did have my classic car restorer/mechanic friend change the oil line that had the rubber hose part way, to the all steel line, from watching one of your videos! Thank you. It also looked brand new as does pretty much everything else. Doesnt see snow, and rarely rain. Our 'beater' is a 2006 Avalon limited with only 70 000 miles! Gets mid 30s on the highway, both have the 2grfe engines, and both ride great and super quiet. Avalons a 5 speed, Lexus is a 6. Keep up the great work, your dream shop is great. And may the Lord also bless and keep you, and yours.
How much you pay for the es350 if you dont mind me asking? Im in the market for one right now but on somewhat of a budget. I found a mint looking 2010 with 67k original miles. Guy wants 14.9k w/ no navi or sunroof
This Car Is Not Well Maintained ! The Owner Simply Do Not Used It At All ! What Is The Fun in Buying a Car To Just Keep It in Garage For Decades ? Bizar .
LOVE your videos, AMD. Your knowledge, passion for Toyota cars, and (most importantly) genuine personality and are addicting. I'm a Toyota enthusiast myself and just bought for my wife a lovely one-owner, garage-kept, 2006 Highlander Limited V6 AWD with 97k miles. I watch your videos every night to learn how to keep it running for another 200k. Thank you for doing what you do!
Hi can you please help me about my 2017 tundra dashboard showing 30 liters per 100 km normal consumption is between 15 to 17 liters per 100 km.It’s getting worse on gas.not often use it i got 30k km.Thanks
Wow...it is a rare gem you are reviewing. Thank you for sharing, I've been watching your videos since you started in your home garage, big congrats on your new shop. I wish I could have you take a peek of my 2005 LS430 but I am in the west coast..! 🤣 Keep up the good work getting more Lexus vehicles reviews.
Given the prices average condition 2010 4Runners go for (usually with many more miles) this person must have paid a king's ransom for such a clean vehicle.
This is back when (I know GX and 4runner is still in production but they're old) luxury means better material, better build quality and reliability; not that your car can play a flute or dance or speak 7 languages. Gimmicks are no longer gimmicks in another 10 years; build quality and reliability is timeless.
It is a beauty! Obviously well cared for. Hopefully the new owner will get many, many great years of service from this vehicle. Thank you for this video.
Hey AMD. Thanks for another great video! I have GX460 just like this one with a KDSS leak at the front. I know you covered it a bit in your 4runner vids. Any chance you will take a deep dive into the KDSS system? How to tackle this leak? Is this a possible DIY? Thanks!
