Amazing views again Rich, great filming, incredible stuff!! Far too hard core for me though - glad it was you rather than me!! Looking forward to the next one....
This is so magnetising - wrong word but you know what I mean. We have landed at Kevlavik and stayed in Reykjavik for two nights and enjoyed a small team tour of the golden circle, we loved the extreme scenes we saw but never visioned any sights like this. Just WOW! Thanks for suffering for us to enjoy!! And, Brittany! What a capable rider right behind you all the way, and offering wipes to cleanse the visors and laugh and share the joy of the ride; lovely grey eyes and lovely personality. Each group you ride with, has fascinating characters, skilled riders, and some who push the boundaries too far and become the target of more humour! But Brittany is an equal, and a blessing. I believe her partner is with you as well, but she is a star!! "Listen to this... - supposed to be silence, but did you Faht?? Haha! Throttle hand is the secret in soft conditions, oversteer with the rear is the way to get round corners in the soft or muddy stuff, especially at speed!! Oh BTW, how was the other woman who fell of her bike the night before and twisted her neck and was out for a while? I hope she improved enough overnight to get back on the bike!
If they ever did a Northern mad max surely this is where it would be filmed, amazing adventure ! 👏😀👍 The fact you are managing to film this is mighty impressive, thanks mate, it is massively appreciated👍
36:42 - when you say it goes against everything you know as a rider, reminded me of speedway racing. Opposite steering, looking the opposite direction, power out, deliberately lose traction. I'd imagine speedway racers would be naturals on that type of surface 😂 Absolutely top class episode Rich
Oh my god look at this is what the series should be called :) Your enthusiasm is infectious to us all watching in the comfort of our homes , it makes us want to go out and see the world on a bike ....I thought the long way round was good but you have spurned me on to go and see places i never would have thought ...thank you mate for sharing your experience im waiting now for the next episode with baited breath ...👍
@@RichyVida yes I know what you mean. On my first ever time on my AT and on the lanes in Derbyshire I had that same thought. Okay not hitting those speeds on soft sand, but up to 60 even lol. So you did excellent… 👍
Great series, which captures the highs and lows of trailriding: When it's good and the terrain is forgiving (e.g. Houndkirk Moor), you can pretend you are Cyril Depres. When the terrain is hard, like muddy ruts in the Peak District or wet deep sand in Iceland, it makes you scared for your safety. Open visor at 60mph is something you only do once aswell! The sound of nervous exhaustion in the helmet is very real......looking forward to the next installment.
It's baffling how you've got huge lakes, then vast baron landscapes of black sand, then stunning green, rocky waterfalls! Also you're going to be a beast at ABR next year haha
Fantastic video Richy. Out of all RU-vidrs, you most closely embody the same elements that I ride and tour for, wild scenery and the love of riding. I'm no longer fit enough or young enough to do some of the more adventurous touring, but after seeing some of your videos, I'm inspired to push myself as far as possible to experience as much as possible. In May a group of 3 of us did the North West of Scotland and the more remote, less ridden parts of the Outer Hebrides, in September 2 of us rode some brilliant roads in Cumberland, Northumberland and Yorkshire and having seen your vids of the Orkneys and Shetland, that's my next trip. I'll never be able to ride those tracks in Iceland, but thank you so much for showing us what a brilliant place it is. 👍👌🏍️
Thank you, Ross. Where in the Outer Hebrides did you go? I like to do a winter trip every January, and this Jan it’s going to be Stornaway and it’s friends! 👍
@@RichyVida we missed the ferry after a 300 mile ride in torrential rain, so didn't get to south and north uist as planned, also having to find accommodation for 3 nights to replace the Airbnb we lost there. That meant we goy more time on Harris and Lewis. We did tje length of those, stayed in 3 different places in Lewis and did some fantastic riding right up to the Butt of Lewis, which is a great wild area with no midges as the wind is to strong for them!! We also did a wonderful 70ish mile evening ride in the far west of lewis were I hadn't been before, really fast twisties and bends and some tiny hamlets, lochs and bridges. I'll remember that particular ride for the rest of my life. I happened to be touring on my Ktm 890 duke and that evening was riding with only only one of my mates who's a really fast track rider, the bends were epic. BTW, we did repeated runs on the A686 in Cumbria on pretty empty dry roads, suffice to say I haven't got any chicken strips left and it's probably the best, fast extremely bendy road in the UK. I hope you've ridden it.
The weather effect reminds me of another one of your recent destinations, Donegal. You were there in fair weather days, but through winter that icy windy rainy condition is in full effect. Fresh, is what I like to call it.
Looks amazing. Visited Iceland in April and it is a beautiful amazing place can't wait to go back in the near future. Might even do this tour and see the more untouched parts of Iceland 👍
If you enjoy riding in the sand, you should come down to Dubai and ride in the Empty Quarter. Imagine massive red dunes all to yourself, but don't come between April-November. It's simply too hot!
Certainly would be a once in a lifetime experience, the "roads" are interesting, as for doing 130kph on them.... must feel very strange doing that sort of speed on soft sand.
Truly an EPIC Adventure..... Scenery was engrossing yet stunning!!! The lack of vision induced body tension definitely got you today😟🙈 Brittany is a BEAST and a great riding companion... Seems like she wanted to try as many of the Steeds as possible 👏 We never found out if the other Gal got back to her bike and was able to continue with the adventure? Stay Vigilant My Friend...... 💪✌️🙏👀
Jaw dropping scenery! Not sure if I could ever do it... one thing that's worse than a misted visor is having misted glasses as well, which you cant see without!! One tip for the GoPro Richy - the protective lens for the Hero 10 has an additional coating that makes it hard for rain to stick to it, and it'll fit the Hero 9 too 😊 EDIT OK forget I said anything, you've got a Hero 8 😂
I just love this 💯 Your Africa Twin would love this epic adventure ! And I totally understand that you were totally knackered after this , and then touring to Picos 😳
Excellent part two Richy. Shame about the pin lock not doing its job. I had that problem once. Found out it was because I kept my glove in the helmet. The views are brilliant though 👍
Great episode. I even found myself squinting through the rain. I certainly feel for you, as I wear contact lenses, I've been in similar situations with the rain...but thankfully not all day. Looking forward to the next episode.
Incredible Richy. Looks like you're riding on the set of a sci-fi movie. I'm just waiting for the spaceship to land! Superb videos from your good self. Keep it shiny side up. Cheers matey.
awesome richy sorry not been on here for a while but was listening to Chris Stapleton country music tonight and it reminded me of your gold wing test ride a few years ago when you was listening to him on the audio system so clicked on to you just now and wow the music at the start 👌 ...and what an absolutely awesome vid 👏 time to catch up a bit on these one thinks 👌👌👍👍👍
Visor anti-fog really isn't the best. So tempted to go back to the Respro Foggy masks I used when I started motorcycling. I thought they looked cool but they actually worked well 😁
I do like a good water crossing... that looked mega... shame about the weather, guess all part and parcel with adventure riding though. I think the needles of rain would have done most people in, especially on sand at those speeds, well done for surviving it. I guess some goggles will be packed in your kit bag for the next one... although the rain then concentrates on all the gaps! 😀
Looks like your on a different planet . Rekon that's going to take its toll on your body after a few days . On the visor front my Bell helmet doesn't fog up inside . Not pinlock just coated inside and auto tints according to strength of daylight .Guaranteed for 5 years
Incredible stuff, amazed your camera kept going through all that rain. Definitely too hard core for me but enjoying the view from the comfort of the sofa.
Never seem to have much luck with my pinlocks either, took mine out of my Arai and sprayed on some antimist coating about 3 months back and still haven't needed to reapply it!
Haha too long for here. Ridden on 5 continents and over 70 counties. Africa, China, Middle East, Asia USA, Canada, Alaska up to Pruhdoe etc. Wife n I retired at 53 to travel and we did, 69 now still organise and lead tours around Europe. Next year's organised already Atlantic to Med across Pyrenees taking in 34 Cols. Got 10 would be adventurers signed up.😎👍😀
Looks pretty epic - and rather challenging. I'd have thought off-road goggles were the way to go, instead of a visor.....After all the off-road racers all use them.....
Hey Richy, Loving the series. Just added Iceland to my list of tours for 2024. I have a question for you about your visibility struggles. Was it a case of your visor fogging on the inside, or the rain was pooling on the outside? Did you try goggle AND visor? Did you try riding with your visor mostly down but letting air up inside? I'm just curious as to whether you found a good solution in the end.
No solution. Was just the order of the day - for all of us. No external issues, just fogging on the inside due to moisture in the air and heavy breathing due to the task at hand!
Sorry that doesn’t work. Here in Idaho it rains maybe 2 or 3 times a summer so it’s not really an issue. What about those tear offs they use racing off-road? Guess you’d need a clean up crew.
I don't know were they were exactly and how dangerous it was there. But a lot of tourist rent cars not designed for going off road in Iceland and then find themselves in trouble.
Can you ask your mate, the English fellow whose wearing Dianese Antartica gear what he thinks about the material Dianese used from the knees down to the ankle of the pants?I have the same gear and the material is so stiff knees can barely bend. Especially when the armor is in. The armor is long enough to cover all the way from knee to ankle but that and the combination of stiff material makes them impossible to ride in. It's a shame because just the jacket alone costs £1400 and pants £850. I think they have a 45.000mm goretex waterproof rating which is way higher than anything else in industry.
Exactly! I mean, come on.. We can pay for petrol just my magically waving our phone at a screen. But, a visor that stays a clear, 100% of the time? Far too complicated.
They already have them. But from what I gathered fogging the inside of the visor wasn't the issue. More likely the collection of mist on the outside that would not shed off even at speed. So, he opened up his visor to see, in turn causing the mist to collect on the inside as well!! Double Trouble!!!
As much as this pains me to say, I have had to stop watching this half way through. Not because I wasn’t enjoying the epic content but because RU-vid has added far too many adverts. I have counted them up to half way through and I am on about 15. Sorry Richy. Maybe have a word with RU-vid
Sorry but as a casual observer that local team leader seems a bit of a knob. His 1st aid skills seemed highly questionable with the girl who fell and obviously had symptoms of concussion. His lack of empathy with riders suffering with vision problems. After all you are paying for an adventure holiday not an SAS style endurance test. Always willing to be corrected/slapped down but personally wouldn't feel at all confident with this leader.
I thought exactly the same….really stupid to moan at someone with a concussion from a fall…not much of a leader. He really shouldn’t be in charge of a group in those conditions. One company to avoid.
