Old NF: "Whats your definition of success? I don't trust this thing that beats inside my chest." New NF: "Whats my definition of success? Trusting what your heart says" Old NF: "I'm looking for the map to hope. You seen it?" New NF: finds the map to hope Old NF: hasn't forgiven his mom New NF: "This isn't a shot mamma. I've forgiven you". Truly a message of growth from NF. And these aren't even including the so many other parallels to his other albums. Love this song and I can't wait for the album drop on April 7th.

Think he said listening to what your heart says not necessarily trusting it. Might just be an arbitrary distinction. But as a Christian I'm not sure that change is actually a good thing. Considering that the heart is deceitful. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge nf fan, i love this song and I'm glad he seems to be doing better. But that particular line didn't sit completely right with me.
@rosalieelliottofficial

@@marcellosanchez7513 I think it depends on what the person who speaks about listening to the heart means. What it practically means in their life. For those who have struggled with the battle field of the mind, listening to one’s heart can he helpful. For example learning to be aware of one’s emotions and intentions. Listening to God who some would metaphorically say “lives inside the heart”. Being in tune with matters of the heart if you will. The verse that speaks of the heart being deceitful may be a helpful reminder to those who want to be controlled by their emotions. Who need to practice discernment and seek wisdom. But Proverbs 4:23 says
 - Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. The wellspring of life. That’s profound too. I think it really depends on what we mean in context and how it applies in our day to day life.

A really powerful metaphor starts at 12:22 where NF listens to Nate (Black Hoodie NF) and follows the direction where he points and ends up back at the raft while Nate is laughing. What I get from it is when you listen to the part of you that identifies too much with your pain it will lead you in circles and waste your time so you are better off listening to your heart and following hope. I think it is a miracle to witness an artist connect with his fans on such a deep level and evolve to show the way forward, to lead his fans toward hope rather than pain. I personally haven't felt this kind of inspiration or hope from an artist before, I am just blown away.

Everything on this song is nostalgia, progression, character built and so much more. The ending of this song is crazy as you hear his inner demons trying there best to bring back the new hopeful nate down by having the smile re appear and the shirt turning black as his demons are talking, crazy back and forth really shows a window in what Nates mind has been like all these years, great reaction and like you can wait for his next album because this was an extremely strong start and as we know Nate, he never disappoints in pushing his bar above and beyond!

This is what I got out of this breaking point of his life. When the nate in black pushed back into the mansion. He threw him back there in hope he threw him back to his ROCK BOTTOM! But instead of running out he faced all his room's and Demons. His old self was hoping it would throw him out of his Positive Feeling of moving forward and making him stay with him . But instead he did face his rooms he opened them doors I didn't see him open his safe room door though that door he said in one song he never wants to he did overpower his old cell up on the cliff and Fight with his old self While his old self was trying to get back end to him with the black veins in his neck and the black collar and Fight with himself move on I think you want! Now's time to move on......

I glad to see I wasn’t the only one that flipped out hearing this! 😂 Loved the reaction. I think the Nate’s in the black was trying to point him in the wrong direction. That’s cause they sent him back to the “mansion” cause that’s where he was trapped before by fear. Which he buried in intro 3….so the Nate’s in Black I think resemble his setbacks (fear, burdens etc). Notice on the beach they pointed different directions but he ended up right back where he started(on the beach) and the Nate in black is sitting on the raft laughing at him. They don’t want him moving forward

When he opens the door and sees himself in the cage as the person who he would've been if he chose not to maximize his potential is such a powerful concept. The whole idea of him being locked in a cage, which is his mind, while he holds the keys in his hands with the choice of surccumbing to defeat or choosing to rise above that and to overcome himself and his circumstances is an extraordinary picture which he paints perfectly. He truly is a genius.

Before we even get into the song/video itself, can we just admire the journey he has taken us on? Through all these years, he's been able to just keep on surprising us. His delivery and message keeps changing, but at the core, it has always been the same and unchanged. Now let's get into the new stuff. I want to preface this by saying I've seen so many reaction videos already, but I have a lot of my own thoughts on it as well. Some of the things I say may sound like an echo, but I hope that I provide you with other ways to look at some of these things that I haven't seen anybody say yet. The first 32 seconds of the video, we hear a lot of little bits behind him singing. It's all of the darker sounds that were the base for his beats on his pervious albums. None of it lingers very long, but it's definitely there if you listen to it. Then, the suspense builds into what we're assuming is going to be this massive drop where he just goes off, but then it goes into a staccato piano without all the extra background like he's made us so comfortable with. Then, we see him in all white. I feel like this doesn't need a ton of explanation, but it's symbolizing his hope. Then he does his normal thing where we see him talking to himself, again, he's conditioned us for so long with this that we think nothing of it. Then he goes and changes it on us during the "my album" part. I don't think we've ever gotten a representation of what it's actually like in his head, just the pictures he paints for us. This rattled me so much because it is just so different, but someone still so par for NF. Not to mention that it plays directly into the continuation of the lyrics. Then at 1:32, he asks "what's the definition of success? listening to what your heart says". This is so minor, but so huge because before he talked about how "i don't trust the thing that beats inside of my chest". Now we see him holding the map. I've seen so many people talk about "it's the map to hope" that he's brought up in previous songs as well. But to me, it's not the map to hope. After two watches of the video, this is where my first big different thought is from what I've heard so far from others. He talks right before the 2:00 mark about these different meanings to success and not being someone that just goes with the grain. Then at 2:00, we see the "old Nate" dressed in black, pointing him where to go. To me, this is him showing us the very beginning of his journey. He's talking about success and the "dark Nate" is trying to control where his career is going and what he needs to do. This gets reaffirmed for me when he said "it's when someone said who ain't never had nothing ain't afraid to walk away from more profit 'cause they'd rather do something that they really love and take the pay cut". He is willing to not go Hollywood because he'd rather take the pay cut and be true to himself and share his story, his way. Then we get to 2:58 where the darker side wins and we start his musical journey with Mansion (1st Album), inside the mansion. But we don't just start there, he uses the music video transition like he did in Clouds (5th and most recent album). It's almost like he's spelling out how going through everything and giving us all this wonderful, relatable music, lead to a metamorphosis. He's owning it and before it takes back over, we get straight back into Hope (6th album, forthcoming). Then we see him in his room (state of mind) when he wrote The Search (4th album), then talks about how depending on your Perception (3rd album) the breakdown could either be a good or bad thing but it was the push he needed to go to Therapy {Session} (2nd album) and then we also see him from the Let You Down video from the Perception album. At 3:58, it goes black. In 1 minute, he was able to draw all of these connections for us between his entire musical career going back to 2015. Then he gets pulled out of the mansion because of his son. He's now free. We finally get to hear him say "mama i forgive you". I had to stop it here for a minute because I completely broke down. He's somehow created his own universe and has been taking us through it with him for 8 years and even if you hate it, he'll make you feel like your in it. Just so incredibly healing for all of us that have been there from the start, and it's not even our story. Take a minute and just sit in that lyric and be happy and proud of him for how far he's come. 4:26 "30 years of (HEY)". We see the dark side trying to come back and he shows us that with the black smile and black around the collar of his shirt. But if we listen to just the dark said it says "Hey, Nate wait" while he's just putting it all out there. All of these emotions and feelings he's been struggling with for 30 years, but he's owning it. And the more the dark side slips out, the more aggressive the Hope Nate gets letting the other Nate know that your time is over and I'm doing this. Then they have this whole battle. D = Dark Nate and H = Hope Nate D: You'll never evolve | H: I know I can change | D: We are not enough | H: We are not the same | D: You don't have the will | H: You don't have the faith | D: You'll never be loved, you'll never be safe, might as well give up | H: Not running away | D: You don't have the guts | H: You're the one afraid, I'm the one in charge I'm taking the - | D: NO | H: I'm taking the...Reins ^We finally see him being able to handle his thoughts. Not only is he a lyrical genius, he just pulled a Marvel on us and took us through all these Phases of his entire musical career and this song/video was like End Game where we've finally gotten out of another Phase. My predication is this album is going to be setting us up for the next Phase of Nate. This man is truly one of a kind and this song gave me such a relief and feeling of healing and it's not even my story to be had. I'd love for other to share their thoughts and point out everything I missed because I'm sure there's a ton.

Thank you so much for the very detailed and insightful breakdown of the song! I’d love yalls opinion, I’m new to the NF journey, so I might be completely off on the meaning of the 1st act because I’ve watched a lot of reactions to Hope and no one broke it down the way I heard it. So tell me if I’m off. By the very little I have observed, he seems to do a lot of talking then answering as if he is two people, or talking from two points of view, dark vs light, good vs evil, etc. He begins the song talking to Hope. He is telling Hope that he is coming. Then when the piano comes on staccato he says, “30 yrs you been….”, this whole section doesn’t seem to me like he is talking to himself, I think this is Hope answering. “I don’t want you to feel like a failure, I know this hurts”. Knowing his faith background, this could tie back to Christ who is Hope embodied saying, you’ve tried it your way, now let’s do this my way “It is time to give people something different. My album, my album….. HOPE”. I don’t know, I could be completely off here…but I’d love to know if this makes sense! Please let me know!

When you get to covering all of his videos from his album titled The Search you will see the black balloons plenty. That's the album that I first discovered NF and from someone with as much mental health damage as myself throughout my life, that album speaks a LOT to me (as well as everything previous I had to catch up on). I love NF. He means so much to so many of us.

There is such a great message behind the whole idea of HOPE. He's directing a view of having faith but the hope he's been is being connected to the evil he's had to overcome the whole time. HOPE has always been there to see it all and be sure to deliver him from all of it. HOPE has to fight Nate so much but it's not giving up on him. And...Nate is having faith to have HOPE now more than ever after having his son to help him realize he's got to be better now after being 30years deep in his despair. God has blessed NF fir being such a fighter for himself and everyone else. 🙏 🤍

NF- The search "I'm looking for the map to hope you seen it?" When I saw the map in his hands and put 2 and 2 together I was freaking out. There's so much to gather from this and I'm so happy he's back. So much motivation. When I think he finally reached his peak NF just raises the bar higher everytime 🔥

Great reaction! What I have recently learned through my own mental well-being journey is that the first part to recovery is discovery. NF exemplifies that and him dropping this song couldn't have come at a better time. The world is tough and I think we all really needed this right now. Keep up the amazing reactions!

You're the best Rosalie!!! I'm grateful for your insights. I just wanted to point out that if you look at the 2 words that NF emphasizes are "Hope" and "Reigns" (*actually* spelled "Reigns" in the lyrics). This song is really really deep and amazing. His song 'Drifting' leads up to this moment almost like the raft is delivering him to this song 'Hope' to duke it out with himself. I also loved how when he brought up having kids, he gets kidnapped. This really hit me hard because I have so much hope in my kids. Reading into this, it really feels like having his son jolted him from his focus on himself and his problems to making sure his kid(s) never feel the same way he did. Taking that past hurt and turning it into motivation. That's success. I think that's why his songs make you want to cry at the end. It's exactly what you go through. There's nothing but insights being thrown at you relentlessly. It's what everyone wishes their parents said to them. I think "Time to give the people something different" is going to be an understatement once Hope releases. 😊Keep being amazing Rosalie!

This song is an absolute banger imo. What I think this song is about is fighting your demons to break free of your pain and past experiences that's holding you back from actually doing something with your life. There was a point in the song where Nate was basically saying "why seek validation from others if you can't even get it from yourself", and I think that says a lot about the current generation. I've had do some demon fighting myself, and even felt I needed to seek validation from others, but I was willing to break free of it, whereas others just want to stay in that fight because it's comfortable for them, or maybe they've never known otherwise. People are capable of change, it's that some people get the wrong end of change, and Nate was one of those people that got wrong end of change, but eventually he was willing to break free of his past. He even said he forgives his mom, and that says a lot about how far he's come, and I have mad respect for him doing so. Great reaction and I hope his upcoming album will be absolutely amazing.

He also had so many of these splits in personality (the echoed “My album,” at the beginning) and the darkness coming back at the end when it was back and forth “You’re never enough,” “You don’t have the faith,” only to end with the dark side yelling “NO” just before he says he’s taking the reins.

Hey Rosalie, something I always love about your reactions is that you keep them clean and family friendly, like NF, and you always give an honest and thoughtful reaction and analysis, so thank you for that! I like what you mentioned about him trying to close the door on all the references to his past cuz I didn't pick up on the symbolism of that the first time since there was so much going on in the video, but I think you're onto something there. I think the part at the end was him battling his inner demons, fear and doubt, again and they were trying to hold on and Nate, as hope, is saying that he's taking the reigns from them. The thing I love the most about this video and song is that you can definitely tell it's NF but he's clearly grown since getting married and having his son. I was wondering how his son would influence his songwriting and this is exactly how I "hoped" it would, pun intended. I also love that he has gone from all black clothes to all white to represent hope as well.
