Yesterday my total chlorine was 10, free chlorine 0.5 and my cya was! Having a vinyl, 3500 gallon pool, I use three 1" tablets in my floater and use a mineral flip floater, use a non-chlorine oxidizing shock weekly and super shock it every 2 weeks. I've had one day all season since adding water that my numbers have been in the normal range. I keep getting the "black algae" on the bottom. I scrub, skim and vacuum every day as well as spraying off or replacing the filter cartridge. We have a side mounted pump. I've gotten in it 2x and my son once. That's it
But do I still need to eventually add a Stabilizer, even if I am using Stabilized Chlorine? And why is my current CYA level at or below 0? Pool has only been up for a week, so maybe the CYA will rise eventually ?
@@SwimUniversity Free and Total Chlorine both around 3 ppm. CYA appears to even be below zero if that’s even possible. Alk and pH both right at tops of ‘OK’ ranges. Water actually looks perfect. Clean and crystal clear.
If my cya levels are at the correct level can I use liquid chlorine without adding additional cya? Will the continuous use of tablets raise the cya levels too high? From what I’ve read the only way to get rid of cya is through water change is that correct?
The continuous use of tablets can do that. But just monitor your levels. If you notice the CYA creeping up above 50 PPM, then you can switch to liquid for a bit. And yes, the only way to bring it down is by partially draining and refilling.
