Robert Greene and Ryan Holiday discuss the concept of 'amor fati' and Robert's latest book "The Laws of Human Nature."
Robert Greene is the best-selling author of "The 48 Laws of Power," "The Art of Seduction," "The 33 Strategies of War," and "Mastery." In "The Laws of Human Nature," he develops the themes of his prior work into an ambitious examination of the underlying, unseen forces that drive human action.

Have you had experiences with amor fati?
@tomrhodes1629
@tomrhodes1629 4 года назад
Much experience, indeed. In this world of limitation and opinion, where absolute Truth is hidden from our senses, the mind is confused and is constantly lying to itself in an effort to find security. But "amor fati" is the proper and consoling attitude that one will naturally adopt when one finds reason enough to believe that one's fate is in fact working towards one's LIBERATION from limitation and opinion.. And this becomes entirely possible once one understands the Meaning of Life; the greatest esoteric secret in this entire Universe, which has finally been revealed. Give me a "click" to learn more......

Fate has allowed me to have smart and successful children (hopefully they become wise) and to be alive (though my parents had to give of themselves when I [We] should never have existed. Fate has allowed me to use my mind to understand the world. It has harmed me, however I have learned from that pain!

Those painful memories can control you for life. Maybe you parted ways because of old pain and complexes in your brain. Amor Fati absolutely, but you can make the best of everyday if you understand your strengths and weakness, lows and highs. Then Amor Fati. Always check a psychologist after such incidents. Best of luck! 🙏

You can't teach attitude. It's definitely something you have to practice and especially practice in the worst of conditions. Love this talk.

Life Mastery Gym uh, you never got whooping when you were little? Your parents should have damn well taught you something about your attitude, as well as teachers, mentors and elders. That’s just me tho, I never let my kids get away with a shitty attitude. When they insisted on having one, I made them go enjoy it all by their self, never lasted long...

When I was training in the military I reached a point of physical and mental exhaustion. In order to push through the seemingly unsurpassable moment I would unknowingly turn to this concept in my soul. Unknowingly and unwittingly practicing the principles of stoicism helped offload the stress that was and that was to come. The battlefield to the boardroom was initially a tough transition. I was amazed and annoyed with the self centered mentality of society most whom have never known the harsh reality of the world. We vets used to joke that we suffered more PTSD from dealing with the ignorance of the sheeple than the cruel enlightenment of mankind’s worst nature experienced in the third world. Trust me when I say we are all blessed to be sons and daughters of Rome no matter our grievances. I really appreciate your perspective Ryan & personally believe these principles can help those who have suffered PTSD no matter the root cause. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻⚔️🇺🇸⚔️

In your enlightening Nietzsche video, you can make effective use of the adaptive root system metaphor of a tree as it grows stronger and increases its expanse confronting underground obstacles. Descriptive, vivid, and organic are a perfect use of this metaphor. The quote "...that which does not destroy you makes you stronger.. " always conveys a hard, militaristic tone to Nietzsche which is certainly warranted for this elite Navy Seal esque, Spartan warrior philosopher that fought his way to the top with front line focus and OODA loop strikes against the cream puff "Marxist" collectivism academics to find a home at the Olympian rung next to Plato, Schopenhauer, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Your root metaphor highlights the profound Emersonian influence of natural organic imagery that left a sublime impression on Nietzsche. Thank you for sharing your novel insights on this pioneer German philosopher leading us all away from the modern philosophic T.S. Eliot described wasteland. A wasteland terrain full of vapid, game show host like hollow men mixed in with the John Wick like Assassins in the philosophy departments of the university tenure system where the truth goes to die as hollow men administrators pander to the lowest common denominator in the collective seal-like applause of virtue signaling and Orwellian levels of political correctness that have the universities and corporations fearing their own shadow. Nietzsche offers a way out of this wasteland to the leading edge with the best view of the vast horizons, blissful sunsets, and the pure austere air of the Swiss Alps. Up in the Alps where Nietzsche is found with his groundbreaking, paradigm-shifting writings, you also can experience the invigorating sensation of elite-level Navy Seal alpine mountain fighting. The mountain combat though is against Platonic shadows comprised of noisy self-confused ignorance, suffering, angst and forced fed propaganda faced in the shadows of our own mind that we all encounter on our own unique path and quest, propelled on by the relentless force of the will to power and illuminated by the brilliance of Nietzsche's light and profound truth instincts. As we take the philosophic Navy Seal hard path in our own internal root expansion, we will all find why this German savant philosopher, the heroic but "lonely" wanderer and his shadow, is fulfilling his "prophecy" in his writings reflective of the Rock of Ages prophets, to be as he foretold in these dark matrix times, "...the philosopher for the day after tomorrow."

Ive got to say I disagree with the proposed approach, for a good reason though which is usually at the core of amor fati is loss . Loss means you were attached , in order to lose you must see something as attached to your identity. I find that when I do not cast blame or find an explanation for a loss , that’s when the loss is truly expressed instead of rationalised or passed of as blame , by experiencing loss directly allowing it fully to be a loss , it then transforms into a confidence , an attachment I identified as me has been burnt a away , a temporal condition that isn’t me has been burnt off my identity . I don’t agree with the “ why me approach “ and letting that be , by not rationalising by not blaming or pitying, I allow loss to be what it is , a burning away of a false part of my identity.

If you believe it is all for the best, you will do much better. Its that simple, no need for complexity once you believe this. If you believe in G_D, it is far easier to believe it is all for the best and be grateful for even what seems to be a hardship at that time.

Don't you think that 'amor fati' is a little misunderstood especially in the context of Thus Spoke Zarathustra? Amor fati is a 'method' of self-and-life affirmation. Remember what the demon said of eternal recurrence, and the result was that only a superman would want eternal recurrence of life, he would 'love his fate'. So, 'loving your fate' is a technique or idea to keep in mind while 'directing' your life in a way so that you would love its eternal recurrence. Amor fati is a thing to achieve. It's not as cynics take it for. Amor fati is a strive for becoming a superman.

1:20 “your going to die and it’s going to be unpleasant”, I disagree. In fact, to find death unpleasant would be in defiance of Amor Fati...but that’s just me y’all... Besides, I already know how I die. On my 83rd birthday I’ll walk into the woods naked, lay down, and I’m not getting up, cause of death, happiness! I will have earned this right to a dignified and wholesome passing by committing my life to one of virtue. Indeed, virtue has become the only true meaning in life to me... I was born a stoic and I’m gonna pass as a stoic... P.S. I can’t wait to get my ring, it’s the most meaningful gift I ever got for me...

Test and trial, and the concept of surrender sounds so much like Islam. Muslims surrender to the Will of One True God, come what may. What you call Universe is actually God who tests us with trials and tribulations so that we are patient, and bestows blessings and riches so that also He may test us to see if we are grateful. So essentially we are all being tested whether in adversity or prosperity. All we have to do is keep our faith, have patience when struck with adversity and practice gratitude when blessed.
