He’s doesn’t just have high IQ and athleticism, he’s emotionally mature far beyond his age. He lost his dad DL Lively the 1st when he was 8, has no brothers or sisters and his mom died a few weeks ago. The kid is in a new city, just lost the only family member he had left in the world and is balling tf out. RIP to his mom, she raised one hell of a kid.
Just want to thank you for highlighting key Mavs players like Lively and DJJ. Naturally, Luka and Kyrie get all the attention, but everyone on the team is playing high level basketball and, as a Mavs fan, i’m loving every second of it ❤
Role players win you championships, we all remember when Luka was unstoppable against the Clippers but had no help. Can't do it on your own even though there are some games Luka or Kyrie can just flat out win by themselves lol
@@6manYT I couldn’t agree more! Also i wouldn’t mind a DJJ video 😅 From being a undrafted player labeled as “just a dunker” to a elite defender 2 games away from an NBA Finals! I feel like his story is worth telling, and you’re a great storyteller.
@@beckerguilherme I appreciate that! Honestly would like to make a DJJ video at some point, he was an afterthought for a mediocre bulls team last year and is now a key piece on a title contender. Crazy
Sensational playoff run for the young guys. Silently has the highest net rating of all players this playoffs. His defensive awareness is that of a veteran, very impressive. Also a painful story that okc took on Bertans contract and moved up over Dallas to NOT take Lively. Can you imagine him next to Chet? Exactly what OKC was missing, he gave them so much trouble crashing the offensive board.
DLive has been a revolution for Dallas. They went out and got a vet with the same skill set to make sure we have 48 minutes of this on the court. I'm so happy for this kid. His momma would be proud.
If the Mavericks win the chip this year Mark Cuban will break the team up in the off-season. Cuban is like the Florida Marlins owner every time you win a chip break the team up.When a team win a chip every player wants a new and massive contract.
Nico deserves the GM of the Year Award. This move was one of the best moves made by an FO. Imagine suggesting your team to miss the playoffs, for a *12TH PICK* rookie.
100% Yet Brad Boston gets it🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️, a team that’s been top of the East and adds two former allstars gets it. As if that better record was shocking Most had Dallas penciled in as a 9 seed playin team.
Donnie Nelson’s biggest accomplishment was being his father’s sperm, he had no business building an NBA team for 20+ years. He did find Luka and Dirk at a time everyone else payed zero attention to European players, but he never had the qualifications nor the basketball knowledge to build a roster. Nico is a different story, he worked his way to the top at Nike, built relationships with players out of genuine interest not knowing it would come handy some day. He also played in college and studied the game.
WHAT IS THIS MAN’S CEILING? This guy does all the dirty work at an elite level. Sets screens and rolls to the rim, grabs tons of offensive rebounds, he’s a rim protector, blocks shots, boxes out, and he is an excellent teammate. I can’t believe this guy is only 20 and plays for my favorite nba team.
Dlive is like a jojo stand, whenever Luka or Kai does something, he’s automatically rolling to the paint, either for a cleanup or a lob. A very good piece to the mavs
Lively is such an inspiration. Dude lost his mom to cancer and is still going strong at such an young age. He has been incredible for dallas. I wish him all the success in this world. Go mavs
Crazy thing is, Mavs don't need him to shoot 3s. The pick and roll with Luka and Kyrie so effective, I don't think it makes sense to start having him pop on screens to shoot 3. Plus , he's a monster rebound machine. Him shooting 3 essentially gets rid of the rolling threat and a rebounding threat
I am a Laker fan so I havent really been following the Dallas season. But decided to start watching them in the post-season because I like Luka and Kyrie plus the Lakers got eliminated. I LITERALLY didnt know he was a rookie until yesterdays game. I was already impressed and asked myself, "who's that guy?" He's only gonna get better too, which is wild
I love that some one is covering D live. He is truly scary if his rookie year is like this I wonder what he will look like a few years playing with luka.
it's very calming for us Mavs fans to witness a rookie playing so calmly in the playoffs, not to mention he's up against the so-called twin towers. this guy fears nothing and if he keeps going at this rate, no one can tell his ceiling.
Good stuff. Hes 7’1, 235, has a 40 inch vert with a 7’7 wingspan. Mavs tanking that bulls game was another obvious move from Nico, now he looks brilliant. Without him Mavs would not be the WCF. And as he grows the Mavs get better. He also made 14 threes in a row in front of everyone on the klutch tryout events. Hes gonna be special. He already is special, he’s a savant like Luka and Kai and Kidd.
Lively, DJJ, Gafford and Washington are unsung heros for the Mavs. How many coaches would have Lively playing such crucial minutes as a rookie? This is what makes J Kidd such a great coach. I had the Mavs as my dark horse before the season because of the combination of coaching + Kyrie and Luka.
I'm just glad Luka have some help now relieving some of the stress. Before w/o Kyrie and Lively II came into the team he was doing like 40-50+ pt games alone carrying the team, but in the end still lose those games.
Doncic = Dirk Kyrie = Kidd Washington = Butler Jones Jr = Marion Lively = Chandler Gafford = Haywood Hardaway = Terry Green = Stevenson Hardy = Barea Kleber = Stojakovic This looks a lot like the 2010 team… but better current players to their comps (minus Jones)
??? I agree with a lot, but Butler played 0 minutes in the PO. Washington is clearly Marion and DJJ is Stevenson. The thing is though... this roster does not really have a Terry (true 30 MPG 6th man)... so the bench comparison gets a bit iffy. Over the season THJ was Terry, but he clearly isnt in this PO run! Hardy/Kleber vs Barea/Stojakovic works to a degree, as does Gafford vs Haywood. But I would say we have to combine Green/Hardaway/Exum to one Terry... So in my opinion: Doncic = Dirk Kyrie = Kidd Washington = Marion Jones Jr = Stevenson Lively = Chandler Gafford = Haywood Hardaway+Green+Exum = Terry Hardy = Barea Kleber = Stojakovic
@@Smido83 DJJ is Marion. He guarded George, SGA, and ANT. The best players on the opposing teams. Meanwhile Marion guarded Kobe, KD, and LeBron. Which is why I think he’s a diet Marion. The Butler comp came in because of the position and play styles he and Washington share.
I love the play at 3:43 in game 5 of the OKC series. It's simple, beautiful and perfectly executed. A three second play involving a screen, two passes and a lob all happening in fluid motion, with zero hesitation from everyone involved. There's just something magical about that play. It sort of looks like a transition play but it isn't, the OKC defense is set.
During the year, if either Luka or Kyrie was out, I still felt good about our chances. If D-Live was out, I knew the game was a wash. (Though I had more hope once Gafford came around and Maxi got well.) D-Live may be one of the most important guys on the team.
Excited for this Wes IMO he’s been awesome + gaining trust of a HC as a rookie (former one and done too) over another good C in Gaff…deserves so many plaudits
100% Im hoping he gets some more chances to playmake and score out of the post next year. It might not be the best form of offense but he's already proven to be a good NBA center as a rookie, if he can improve on those things he could be an ALL NBA level guy. Depending on how long Jokic, Embiid and Wemby are around lol
Lively has the skills, mindset and a generational teammate in Luka to become a top 10 big of all time....he already plays like a vet and with his size and skill I can see him along with wemby and Chet as the big 3 big men of next generation...this trip really gonna revive the Center position
As a Mavs fan for years we have Dwight Powell as our starting center and paint protector.. And it always results to layup line for the other team.. I've always thought it would be nice to have a Center like Adebayo, Mitchell Robinson, Clint Capela..
Great fun to watch the Mass since the trade. Major kudos to Kyrie for “Maturing” to become a real team leader. Sure hope the Mav’s exec’s keep this team together as long as possible. Just love all that unselfish “Team” hooping!
He's surrounded by great influence players with high IQ. He has a high IQ as well and a good passer. Not to mention he also mentored by Tyson Chandler.
DLive is getting trained by Tyson Chandler behind the scenes so a lot of his game is coming from him. Tyson is one of the best dominating centers that won a championship before so it’s just great having him as his mentor. You can tell a big difference of what he was like earlier this year. It did take long minute but I feel like ever since the playoffs came, he became 10x better than the regular season.
I don't think he will be as effective if he was drafted in the other teams. He has that connection with Luka and Kyrie, and sometimes Jaden, in the pick and roll and other nitty gritty stuff. I firmly believe Mavs is the best suited team for him. Also, having Chandler as his sort like father figure/personal trainer is big W. If he is in the other team, his development would not be as fast since it's entirely different to learn from a former NBA champion who basically played his same position.
Thanks for highlighting the new and more dynamic Giannis he way ahead as a rookie but luka and kid made sure we got that guy because he has a vet mindset. as a saying goes. Real know Real. that trade was Destin to happen we would have given up more to get him if we had to. imagine playing your entire season waiting on this guy out of college lol. to be fined petty cash for tanking last few games. A WIN IS A WIN,
I have been begging the Mavs for a center since the days of Tyson Chandler. I never thought it would happen and when we picked Lively I was so stoked! However as high as my hopes were I didn't know that he could be this good this early. There's so many parts of his game that need development that make him even scarier
I don't keep up much with basketball until playoffs. Watching that game live I was thinking this guy is killing it. I never would have guessed he was a rookie. Pretty nuts.
was big fan of lively from the get-go . if this was any other year he could win ROTY he has a lot hustle . oh yea and game 6 vs okc his +/- was insane . luka had -6 , livlely had over 20 .
I hope in the offseason he works on 1 on 1 offense in the post and playmaking from the high post. Would open up another dimension of offense for the mavs. Imagine if he gained an efficient shot from the post? Would be joever.
The fact that Tatum has the highest plus/minus in the playoffs when he just showed up for the first time like 2 games ago and is shooting 44 pct from the field and 29 pct from 3 is exactly why plus/minus can't be relied upon heavily.
