Have you ever asked yourself why the Miami Heat retired Michael Jordan’s jerseys back in 2003?
I mean we all know how great he was but a franchise retiring it’s jersey for a player who’s never ever played there is kind of strange isn’t it ?
For that we need to go back to the 90s
To be exact, in the year 1992
Kriss Kross entered the Hip Hop Scene with their major hit “Jump”.
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York was a box office success
and Michael Jordan, who came fresh off from winning his 3rd MVP put up one if not his most dominating Playoff Series of his Career against none other than the Miami Heat!
Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round of the Playoffs started with a bang !
MJ and the Chicago Bulls dominated the Match from the start and the Heat probably knew at Halftime that they have no chance at winning this Series.
Jordan dominated on both ends on the floor and made it for everyone clear why he has been the Most Valuable Player in the NBA.
Even his own teammates couldn’t believe how good he was in that game!
Game 1 ended in a blowout and His Airness finished the Game with a near 40 Point Triple Double!
You have to remember the nba back then was probably the most physical era ever so that fact alone makes the Statline even more impressive!
Game 2 ended in similar fashion
Although Jordan wasn’t as elite as he was in game 1 he was still dominant!
Watching those old games also makes me wonder how many points mj would average in todays NBA
Let me know in the comments if you got an idea!
To go back to the point , the Bulls won the match by a whopping 30 points
With Michael Jordan dropping 33 points , 13 Rebounds and 6 Assists!
But the best is yet to come for MJ..
Game 3 was highly competitive
One the hand the Miami Heat desperately wanted to avoid the sweep
On the other MJ and the Bulls wanted to bring the Series to an end
and it looked like the Heat were on their way to win their first game in this Series
They even led by 18 Points in the first quarter,
Even the great Michael Jordan had zero points in the first 10 minutes but like I said , the best was yet to come for Jordan
MJ quickly found his groove and from that moment on, it was a wrap!
MJ exploded for 35 Points in the second half
Hitting clutch Buckets and crushing all the hopes for the Miami Heat
His Jumper was on point that night and it showed in the Statsheet
Jordan Finished the Game with 56/5/5 while shooting over 66 % from the game
To sweep the Miami Heat
Jordan’s 56 Points were at that time the 3rd most points scored by a player in the postseason! Only trailing behind Eilgin Baylor who drooped 61 points in 1962
and guess who ?? MJ himself at number 1 with 63 points back in 1986 against the GOAT Boston Celtics team!
Even the Heat Players themselves couldn’t believe what they’ve witnessed
with one player saying He could score 100 Points! if he wanted too
Jordan’s Final averages are literally NBA 2K Numbers!
MJ averaged an astronomical 45 Points /10 Rebounds and 7 Assists on 61 percent from the field!
What the Hell!!

Go watch Lebron try to guard Kobe 😂😂😂 its hilarious especially the Xmas game 2010-11 season if im not mistaken when Kobe pushed Bron on the floor in the 1st Quarter and did Bron durty right b4 half time 😂😂😂

Doubtful. He may push 40-45ppg but it's almost impossible for anybody to average 50ppg++ in today's game. In order to score that much, even if you are MJ, you need to be given the opportunity to take the number of shots required to get to 50 points. MJ topped out at 28 shots per game in his 37ppg season. He did that on a team with an average pace of 96. Today's pace is around 100. Today's highest shot taker is Luka Doncic and his team is at almost exactly a 100 pace. So, at a pace of 100 MJ would take 29 shots per game. That would be his absolute limit for his career so we can work on that number. MJ averaged 37.1ppg taking nearly 28 shots so that would equate to 38.7ppg at 29 shots. But we also need to factor in ease of scoring. This can be reflected in total team points across the league, the easier it is to score in an era, the higher the average team score per game. Sticking with that 28 shot season, MJ's team was averaging a little under 105ppg. Luka's Mavs are averaging a little over 118ppg. It's much easier to score in the modern era. So again, factoring in team scoring, which averages 115.6ppg today, MJ's personal scoring output increases to 42.7ppg. Finally, we must consider the three point shot. Players are taking way more threes today and they are slightly more efficient than the two point shot. MJ took just 0.8 threes that season. Luka is taking over 10 this season. MJ would not take that many, even today. I'd say his close comparison as a scorer today would be SGA who takes 3.4 threes while taking 20 shots overall. If we use that as our bar, MJ would then take 5 threes per game, four more than he did in reality. Taking four more threes means he is taking four less twos. If he is shooting league average on threes then he is making 1.8 per game, that's 5.4 points off of threes. Four two point shots would have netted him 4.4 points, so he's making an additional one point per game by taking more threes. His scoring average therefore would peak at 43.7ppg.

@perpetualmotion357
@perpetualmotion357 6 месяцев назад
The debate was manufactured by the league and media. They always want a product they can milk for all its worth to generate money, whether it's real or not. With Jordan, the same thing went on but in a more organic fashion. Magic knew it was the truth when MJ said he was the new sheriff in town. Bird/Magic saved the NBA, but Jordan took it to the stratosphere where he became bigger than the game itself. He was one of the few athletes that transcended their sport, and he's probably the greatest in that area too from a skill standpoint. The only other guy would be Ali but for different reasons. His hype would never have lasted if he didn't come through time and time again. Coaches and hall of fame players were saying he was the g.o.a.t basketball player they ever saw before he ever won a ring. Jordan was a straight up killer. The closest players I've ever seen move like MJ are Kobe and maybe Drexler for a short period of time. Drexler lacked Michaels killer instinct/competitive drive while Kobe lacked his god given talent where there was no way he could play 36 rounds of golf and then go drop 50 the next night. Both didn't possess the kind of leaping ability and hand size Jordan was born with which separated him even further. Jackson was right when he points out the importance of Jordans hand size and how he's able to manipulate the ball. He could break ankles without even dribbling. It was just another attribute that enabled him to perform all that ariel artistry a long with his 42+ vertical. Jordan was an amalgamation of one player possessing all the attributes that would make a basketball player great. His "Black Cat" nickname was so fitting given how he could slash and dash his way into the paint or stop on a dime and pull up a jumper. If I had no knowledge about Michaels or other players accolades and statistics and just judged all these guys from a visual standpoint in how they played the game, Jordan would pass the eye test without the marketing and rings. He just moved unlike any player I've seen before his time or since. You can't fake that.

I feel blessed to be alive to watch games while he was playing live. Something about MJ that I love is he like most elite athletes makes you at awe at not just meeting heightened expectations, but somehow surpassing it and going beyond. Their ability to redefine what's possible and trailblaze is just outstanding. The special thing about MJ is he redefined expectations just in general as a player, but when he was at his peak he was Revolutionary and Evolutionary at the same time. He's my goat, and I can understand if others have their own, but basketball in my mind is either Pre MJ, or post MJ. Great video. Those numbers at the end are gaudy. I wish you put the a comparison of what the numbers for the other players during that playoff game was as a comparison though.

I think the question should be how much would of he averaged back then if he truly wanted to be a ball hog or was allowed to be. People need to watch old bulls games to realise how the offence was almost equal opportunity most of the time. Watching modern players like Donovan Mitchell, prime J Harden or any other ball dominant volume scorer always makes me think geez imagine if Jordan had that opportunity back in the day. Same as Curry, Klay etc with shooting, awesome shooters of course but you can’t tell me Reggie Miller, Mark Price, Ray Allen etc would of been putting up crazy numbers too if they had the ‘shoot any shot you want’ green light these guys do. 90’s players would of been benched for Curry’s shot selection even if they went in! Jordan playing today jacking a few more 3’s a game with the green light todays stars get to hog the ball averages 45 IMO.

I have a theory, they say Jordan would have a higher scoring average today than he did back then, I think he would score exactly what he scored back then, why? Well, back then he did whatever he wanted with the defenders and was just as impossible to defend as he would be today. If he had wanted to score more earlier, he could have scored even more, but a good horse only jumps as high as it must…

The idea that somehow humnaity has evolved athletically in the last 20 years is so tiring... Sure the talent pool has grown considerably and I agree that level for the average and below average player has improved, and even sometimes even the superstars. BUT EVERYONE PLAYING PROFESIONAL SPORTS IS ATHLETIC. Why do so many sons of NBA players continue to play? Why hasn't the NFL and other sports changed so dramatically? The NBA and changes in technology have fostered these changes that greatly benefited the players that would also benefit MJ and other players today if we had a time machine bring them to now. Before responding I challenge you to search "Ted talk Athletes" on YT. It's not long and actually pretty interesting.
