With my wife Dace we continue touring this side of the map to share it with you and we arrived at Bulgaria, a more than interesting country on the Balkan Peninsula.
We are in Russe, a major city in Bulgaria located in the northern region of the country, near the border with Romania. Here we have seen more children, people wear old-fashioned clothing, live at a slower pace and enjoy a good environment with more greenery.
We invite you to leave your opinions about it in comments. You can also tell us if you prefer us to tour cities, small towns, natural paradises or beaches in our next videos.
Russe is located on the northern bank of the Danube River, making it a strategic city for trade and connections with Romania. The Danube Bridge connects Russe with Giurgiu, a Romanian city on the other side of the river.
Russe has an interesting history dating back to Roman times. During the 19th century, the city became a major commercial and cultural center, leading to its nickname "Little Vienna" due to its Vienna-like architecture and lifestyle.
This city unknown to the big world has well-preserved historical architecture, including neoclassical, baroque and Renaissance buildings. Some of the places of interest include the Opera House, Caliopa House, the Regional Museum of History and the Peace Monument.
Walking through the streets among very local aromas and colors is something we prefer over very global cities. Here in Russian we feel like we are in a time warp framed in the intense colors of a sunset.
Russe is also an important economic and commercial center in Bulgaria, with a river port on the Danube that facilitates the transport of goods. The city is also home to a variety of industries, including metallurgy and engineering.
Russe is known for its cultural and educational life. The city is home to several higher education institutions, including Russe University, and is a center for arts and music. Cultural events are also held throughout the year, such as music and theater festivals.
Russe is famous for its Rock Festival, which is one of the largest music events in Bulgaria and attracts music fans from all over the country and beyond.
Russe is located in a scenic region with access to the Rusenski Lom Nature Park, which offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the Danube canyons and cliffs.
The city has good transport links, including trains and roads that connect it to other parts of Bulgaria and Romania. River transport across the Danube is also an option.
