RU-vid's copyright system has been broken for almost a decade. It's no longer "this new thing they implemented is fucking me over", it's "the literal fabric of this website has been fucking me over". I'm sorry man
@@CrimKing161 Yep, as horrific as RU-vid's system is, the law itself is the problem. RU-vid softens the blow and helps copyright holders be relaxed by giving them options with sharing revenue rather than having them straight up sue you, but naturally there's a power imbalance there. (Fair use is an affirmative defense, they could still sue you and you have to prove them wrong) Copyright has valid uses (I don't think people should be able to straight up resell content for money without modification without the originator getting their appropriate share) but is largely incompatible with modern life (there's no issue of scarcity), hurts culture (remixes, memes, reviews..), and just overall sucks. It's generally used more as a weapon against criticism or to enforce bad policies that hurt paying customers (e.g. DRM) than anything else these days.

@@BassLiberators It's mostly due to protect their (the companies, not RU-vid) property. We give Nintendo a bad wrap for overprotecting their stuff, but if they don't, it can legally be seen as them not thinking their property is valuable enough to warrant protections.
@@REvoLverj98 The difference here is that the RU-vid Content ID system gives companies the opportunity to take revenue from channels by submitting a 3rd party claim, while leaving the video available for viewers to see. RU-vid allows companies to take action without giving creators channel strikes, therefore this was an intentional move for whatever reason.
So, quick actions to take from now on: - Patreon - Stream on Twitch - Highlights/reviews on RU-vid with minimal music content - Backup channel ASAP Stay calm, man! We ain't going anywhere, and you know we will support you even if RU-vid keeps fucking everything up.
You've got this dude, take a second for you, recoup, then start pulling at people. Talk to Anton Fantuan, talk to Todd. The absolute worst case, you have a community that will follow you to another platform. Your feelings are valid, and this is terrifying but there are outs.

It's insane. The fact that these people can simply destroy someone's source of livelihood within seconds and choose to do just that is peak villain behavior. RU-vid has zero sympathy for people using their website to feed their families.

As someone who’s dealt with youtube rejecting their automated strikes and penalties for years, it’s genuinely depressing that they to this day don’t have like a better system of addressing flaws in their takedown system for when you’re doing nothing wrong. A temporary solution for now would be to switch to another streaming service for now to ensure you don’t have all your eggs in one basket. That being said I hope youtube team at least resolves this huge flaw in their takedown system.
You are such a genuine source of comfort and escapism and have been there for people like me when noone else would be. You will pull through this, as you have through all other hardships in the past. If you ever need another reason to hate the current, corporate state of the web, this is a big one. The automated enforcement of copyright violations is genuinely corrosive to any and all forms of critique. I am so sorry that you're dealing with this, Brad. I hope this gets fixed swiftly for your sake.
It's also corrosive to people trying to make and share their art. I had to deal with a copyright "violation" a few months back over a track that used a 12-bar blues pattern, a progression that's considered uncopyrightable due to its age and ubiquity. So I had a pretty clear case with which to appeal the strike, and the rights holders didn't even bother rejecting my appeal, they just sat on it for a month and then the ruling defaulted to me. Heck, they probably didn't even notice the claim was made on their behalf, they probably get 20 copyright notifications a day and can't be bothered. So I technically won the case through the power of sheer negligence, but that didn't stop them sitting on me for a month, giving no indication of what was going to happen next.
I've been really noticing lately that we're severely lacking any semblance of a proper internet town square free of corporate and government meddling and censorship as of late.

earlier this year my office was cutting down employees like it was nothing. while i was lucky to not be one of the people who got fired. it was such a stressful time for everyone in the company. i hope you find a way to move forward doing what you do man. maybe talk it out with other veterans like fantano or todd that know more about how to go forward with your content. times like these reaching out to others is all you can do
Really sad to see you go through this man, as someone who's been demonetized, lost thousands of dollars, and been actively suppressed from RU-vid's algorithm numerous times this video hits really hard. A lot of people know that RU-vid's copyright system is bad but a lot of people don't realize JUST HOW BAD it gets. People have to fight long unnecessary battles for their own livelihood over false claims, strikes, reports, etc... and unless you're a MASSIVE channel with direct connections or you manage to somehow make a loud enough complaint about it, it's infinitely harder to sort it out because they almost never actually help. Hope everything gets sorted out though man, you deserve better than this.

seconding everyone here suggesting 1. talking to your peers about future actions 2. starting a patreon 3. moving to twitch and plenty other great suggestions. those are probably your best bets, but you do have a lot of options if youtube doesn’t drastically alter their horrible copyright policies.

Also the way youtube can Act this quickly on a decision that affects ones livelihood and income is astonishing. This is more than just losing his living, it seems as if RU-vid was a positive outlet for Brad’s mental health and coping with it. I’m no expert on either his life or mental conditions but this being a crutch that helped him so much, just for that exact thing to turn around and take everything away must be a tremendous blow.
It's a positive outlet because its a literal money printer by doing what most of us do on a daily basis for free...listen to music. lol Of course someone who makes bank doing it will be upset it might be ending.
