Something my therapist explained to me which really resonated with me. She explained to me that if your mind is capable of making you feel so trapped and lost but is also able to make you feel free and alive even when you dont know what you did to get there, it means that you are capable but one side of your mind is more developed than the other thats all and you just have to develop that part of your mind abit more.

I was thinking that my OCD might be so bad that I was a lost cause and it just wasn’t brought to my attention till I started trying to fight it. I see now it’s the same for everyone. Thank you so much Nathan, your channel has helped me so much I started a new job recently and I'd also just recently got into therapy a couple months before the job I noticed a dramatic improvement after starting therapy with many aspects of my life including OCD however I noticed since I haven't gotten to go to an appointment in a long time as my job isn't allowing me to schedule things (schedule is changed every two days a week) haven't been able to get into therapy and last night I was up all night trying to calm down I ended up staying home from work today and even though I had the luxury of staying home it was like no matter where I was or how calm the world around me was I was in constant hella torture because of my fears fears like what if I waste the day or what if I spend all day worrying and I can't stop and no matter what nothing works and I'm just stuck wasting it and I lose more sleep and I waste all day it was so bad I got a notification about your video and it was impeccable timing it almost felt like it was meant to be I was not thinking treatment doesn't work but I was feeling like it wasn't for me at the moment and this video really helped I immediately felt calm and started writing in a journal again tips that you explained and applying them to my own experience and knowledge of what's helped me in the past I realized that no matter what all there is is what is now and you liberated Me by reminding me the treatment isn't always instantaneous that's just what we're used to because of instant gratification from doing compulsions anyway thank you so much I appreciate you

This is very true, I had a thought that I hadn't had those thoughts for a while, it then brought them on and felt how strong they were and how weak I was. This is ok because I have to practice using my skills on turning 'what if' into 'so what'. And call someone who knows what's going on to just say, 'hi, they're back again'.

This is such good advice. I suffer with healthy anxiety and have been much better allowing myself to feel the fear, and l was doing exactly what are saying, and l was doing so well for about 6 months. Then yesterday after l came out of my normal sauna use, l noticed my arms had red rashes over them, which they never had before. And l could feel my thoughts shifting to what IFS, again, and why is this happening now when it has not happened before, am l sick? I allowed myself to google one page and it said it was normal after a sauna in some people and l didn't google anymore, but today l am still thinking about why now and even though my anxiety is much less than it used to be it is still there. I have to face the fear and allow myself to be scared. Can be very hard at times when faced with health anxiety.

I am currently seeing a therapist but it’s not ERP. Short conversations with psychiatrist and meds are helping somewhat but it’s not enough. I have tried to resist compulsions on my own, but I am realizing now ERP is the missing ingredient.
@jesse8737
@jesse8737 4 месяца назад
I definitely believe some themes are worse than others. And that some you can recover from and others you can’t. I almost want to live in reassurance because some things you just can’t recover from. ERP manages the anxiety and not the fear. Yeah sure, it’s not great to be anxious, but you still have to live with the idea of the thing you were anxious about in the first place

What Nate says in 2:37 about the results coming without you even knowing while you're on recovery is so true. I suffer from real evenr ocd and false memory ocd and my themes bring back past memories real or not that make me anxious and I try to do self treatment at the moment because I dont have enough money for a therapist yet. And as time goes by and me putting the efford I noticed that some of the worries that seemed like the biggest deal of my life that I can't even move on from, I started forgetting them from time to time. Like they weren't in my radar anymore. Memories that used to torture me and made me want to fix the situation somehow weren't bothering me anymore and I completely forgot about them and me even suffering from them😂. They're not a big deal for me anymore and I'm genuinely telling you I completely forgot about them or even the fact that I suffered from them. They weren't important to me anymore. Do hard work people, there is light at the end of the tunnel

You're fantastic, but the one piece I'm not quite on board with is pretending that we're happy the intrusive thought has arrived. I understand the concept, but let's face it: no one is actually happy when an intrusive thought arrives. We can keep saying over and over again that we like it, but the OCD brain deep down knows that we don't like it.

Even though I controlled the anxiety The guilt doesn't go because I actually did that thing. So while doing anything which makes me happy , i suddenly get nervous as the guilt says , do don't deserve this because at that time you did that horrible thing ... I was obsessively taking deep breaths through my mouth for weeks to reassure myself I could breathe, I still do that although it now feels next to impossible to catch a proper deep breath. I've had the same problem..you can manage it quite successfully with ERP..your goal must be living with it without judgement and not trying to push it out..your anxiety at start will increase but with practice it will go down and the problem will disappear..you have to be patient..the more you try to push it out, the more it will come in..trust me, there is a way out, I couldn't sleep and I was desperate, but now I sleep 10 hours a day and I'm living well :)
