I'm a Jamaican and yes, I laughed twenty years ago when I first saw this, cotdammit, and I laughed again tonight. I didn't even know you had transitioned, Rasheed. Never you mind. We all snowflakes in the wind. Rest in peace, Playa.
His name is Rasheed Thurmond from Brooklyn. He died in 2007 at age 35 due to heart issues. He has been on quite a few comedy shows suxh as def comedy jam, bad boys of comedy, etc. There is a documentary on netflix? Prime? Called papi aint no snitch. He left behind 3 kids, had been in comedy at least 10 years and passed away 3 months before the airing of Def comedy jam which wouls have made him a household name to many.
Thanks for the 411. Very sad story. I recorded a lot of B.B. of comedy. 1 thing that always seemed foul to me was Puff wouldn't call Dougie Fresh the nickname he have himself. On his album he sampled James Brown " THE WORLD'S GREATEST ENTERTAINER " , but puff would only say "1 of the world's greatest entertainers". It was small, but still disrespectful. Now today alot of small shit that was ignored and not understood, makes sense.
That’s hilarious, thank you for this comment cause I ain’t from there and to here you say how accurate he was, definitely paints a good picture for me 😂
@@Reyeyawn Yo, the beautiful silver lining to all the problems caused by low income housing--before it was gentrified--is that you also get immigrants from all over. So the culture is crazy, bc now you have half-Rican, half-Jamaican kids speaking urban English, Spanish, and Patois in the same building 🤣
I think the seamless flawlessness of his delivery comes from the simple twist of not only was “he born to do this” but he was Born into this…these are characters he’s seen every day of his life. He’s merely showing us how his neighbors sound kinda like any one of us who have relatives that don’t quite nail the whole English as a second language. Not as a criticism. But every culture has their own Idiosyncrasies. That’s what makes our country Great. Not the number of abortions preformed or prevented…that’s all hypothetical bullshit, anyway. But the real connection between people from all the different parts of the globe that we come from a myriad of different backgrounds, and can still sit down at the bodega and talk about prices, the shitty job the mayor is doing, or the latest political scandal. We just say the same thing in different ways. Each have our own ‘flavor’ I think that might be what he’s Tapping into. Rather than just stringing together unfair, or unkind stereotypes with little to no understanding of the people they represent. He’s not ‘making fun of’ as presenting an homage to the ‘aunties’ and ‘unks’ that have populated his world.. Flawed and Tragic hero’s that they were. But aren’t all of hero’s flawed and tragic.
I love the internet even more for this. Today’s 5.20.24 and it’s my first time seeing this clip. This Jamaican lady thoroughly enjoyed it. May you RIP Rasheed. ♥️
He brought that Jamaican in the shop to life! in fact, he became so much of the West Indies. Our thinking, our little cultural idiocyncrasies... We shall always answer a phone after 6pm with "Good night" because night falls suddenly and it is dark at that time. We are uninterested in the fact that for others, "good night" means farewell. So many other gems, the cap, the strut, the infuriatingly casual attitude in the shop. Our "we shall not be rattled" philosophy. Love this, love him, much respect to a brilliant one, gone too soon.
“…because he live here…” had me rolling! Because I’ve lived in NY and I had a flashback of a cat sleeping on the bread…. Momma didn’t purchase any tho 😂😂😂
That was my old Jamaican neighbor. I knocked on his door to ask him to turn the music down, and he opened the door looking just like that, surrounded in a haze of smoke 😂

Been watching this incredible set for years now and it’s still fire. I still have this on VHS somewhere! Rasheed Thurmond was on his way right before his passing. So talented. So sad. But his legend lives on through his gift. RIP.
2005... i still remember receiving this video clip in a work email that was a long ass forwarded message that seemed to have passed through damn near every employee's email address in the huge facility that I worked at in Manhattan. one of the funniest stand-up sets i've ever seen, partly because it was SO SPOT-ON NEW YORK. RIP Rasheed..
