you got it right for 2 out of 3.. 1- i am having my midlife crisis post retirement.... 2 im buying something for pure fun... but im 38. but you are good!!
I really hope this IS a midlife crisis because I just bought one on my birthday last week. I just turned 76. So if this is mid life, then I'm in good shape. Thanks DriveHub. I enjoyed your youthful perspective very much..
My neighbor is 85 years old and drives a 2000 convertible Vette he bought new . He has over 360,000 miles on it and wants to hit 500.000 before he gives up driving . You have a long way to go to catch up to him . Have fun !
OK...the planet is 25,000 miles in circumferance (more or less) Your neighbor is 85 and drove his 2000 Corvette "over" 360,000 miles in 1 year. His mileage is equal to driving around the entire PLANET 14.4 times....right Are you sure he didn't buy a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner? (Beep Beep)
Congrats on the purchase! I've been in a "midlife crisis" since my 20s and I'm in my later 30s now, so I better start soaking it up cause I don't have much time left.
Too many people assume it's a "mid-life crisis".... But in reality, it's often simply a case of "now that the kids are grown and I'm rid of the other drains on my wallet, I can afford one" kind of thing. In other words, the crisis is over and now it's time for ME..!!
I completely agree with you. This is the same case for my father. That is what makes me appreciate these cars. The people who drive them all come from a similar place like that. Thank you very much for watching, Steven!
I was about to post the exact same comment until I scrolled down and read yours! lol. I would have owned a Corvette in my 20's, 30's 40's if I could have afforded one. Now that I'm 50 and my kids are on their own I CAN afford one. No crisis!
I am 5'5" and have a 2011 and a 2012 C6. They are both convertibles with about every option. When compared to other Corvettes especially the C7 and C8 I like the clean styling of them. They are great in every way and the interior should not have been condemned so much and the car should not have been ridiculed when the C7 appeared. I am very happy with them and certainly would not part with them for a measly $25,000.
I have this Corvette to the letter. I love it. Candy apple red but of course Corvette has a fancy name. Same interior. Same wheels. I too modified the exhaust system for better than stock sound. I currently have 38,000 original miles. Thanks for reading. Have a great day. Tim Yarbrough
Too funny yes 57 years old I just bought a 2007 Corvette. I’ve been in jaguars Mercedes and all different kind of cars. Our first car was what is a 1967 five or Firebird convertible three speed so this is pretty interesting to ride. I haven’t driven in a car like this in quite a while so I’m quite happy.
I am in my 50s with a Corvette and I am fine with it. My first new car at 21 y/o was a Pontiac Trans Am(still have) prior to that, I had the Camaro, Firebird, Chevelle SS and Monte Carlo. Later in life had BMW, Lexus and Volvo, it's all about the driving experience, not trying to be "young" again or pick up women, just something to enjoy in these trying times!!
FYI, because of your video; I have now, last week, bought a 2006 C6 convertible. Definitely was not planning on that last month. Odd thing is, I grew as a teen hating the look of the C6 Corvette. Now I love everything about it! Weird how life works out?
I purchased a 1998 Sebring Silver C5 coupe last September from Mecum in Louisville. 53,000 miles, Car is flawless. I’m 63, kids are gone, it’s just me & my bride. We love the car, still turns heads for being 22 years old..NEVER seen rain...
I just bought my 2007 corvette base, with 73000 miles, atomic orange, 6.0, with 2 tops, garage kept, dear maintained only, with new michelin tires, new brakes, new harmonic balancer, new shift cable and it runs quite. It's a coupe, with 6 speed automatic. I'm 73 and wanted a vette since 13. It rides and handles great.
I have watched the video several times and couldn’t agree with you more. I have a 2008 Z51 3LT option package with dual mode exhaust. The car is identical to yours. The best color scheme for a C6 in my opinion. I also use it as my daily driver except when it snows. Every time I get in my Corvette I have a big smile on my face. I also have a 94. I still love and enjoy that also. Drive on. Thanks for the video.
Thanks - I'm one of "those guys!" Working class background - no mid-life crisis, just was finally able to afford one (and the kids grew up, so I didn't need a back seat). I love my C6 so much that I watched every minute of this video, even though I already knew everything you said. The car is practically magical. Whenever I see a really nice car -- Porsche, Tesla, etc. -- I say nice car, but it's not a Corvette, now is it?!
I just bought one two weeks ago. Sold our house after 30 years.. I Will be 63 in August... Wife said I deserved it for working so hard over all those years. Told myself day before wasn't going to buy another sports car. Drove passed the car lot, seen the car that they just got in on trade the day before. Wasn't even on the lot yet. Off to the side.. stuck.out like a sore thumb. Stop talked to the sales man. Monday, 3 days later my wife wrote a check... Early birthday present. It deff makes up for selling my last sports car.. 2008 28k. Coupe. Fully loaded, I am in love with it.. it has several upgrades. I am truly blessed to be able to outright own it....amazing car..
I have a C6 Coupe (2007) that I use as a daily driver. I put 125 miles a day six days a week to go to work round trip. I love the ride> I love the mileage (31 mpg) and most important I love the look and style of the car. It is one of those vehicles that you get to have everything.
Ok, I'm that guy... not mid-life crisis, but a retirement present to myself, when I had to sell my motorcycles because of health, I bought a 2012 GS convertible... I'm at the age where the goodies in your trunk are in my past sadly, but about the car -- it's a blast and I chuckled at some of your points about the interior... you're right... who really cares? But I still have a bit of fight left in me, so I bought a set of headers and had them installed and dyno-tuned and let's just say it is even more fun... I'm tall like you are, so your video reminded me of that - we're kind of stuffed into the Vette. I chuckled about the 'large speedo, so you can tell just how fast over the speed limit you are going'... yep! lol. And, you are right, keeping the traction control ON, because these cars are not passenger cars like we all drive, they are sports cars, and power to weight is way-way-more different... mine does have some more goodies like magnetic-ride control, and HUD, etc, but yeah, the car is a blast down the interstate... it's my summer vacation on wheels! Fun video! Take care young man.
hemikid52 .... I also had to sell my bike because of a bone cancer in my spine. That was depressing, but my wife told me I should buy a sports car. I made a list of five cars and the C6 Z06 was on the list. However, I opted for the Ferrari 360 Spider. I still would like to get the big block Vette, but not likely to happen.
Choco Latte dang, man. The 360 is a pretty different beast at a totally different price point. I’m younger but can easily afford a C6 and its gas, maintenance, and insurance. 360? No way. But I’m glad you got into one and I hope you’re enjoying it! I rented an F430 at a track and it was extremely fun.
Me too! 75th birthday present! I love it. I have the NPP exhaust option, which was modified by the "Mild to Wild" kit which gives you the 3K rpm sound from the git-go! Rich witt
I am 6 ft 318 lbs, my 2007 was a Targa top and it was like putting a condom on but my o6 is a convertible and sooo much better to get in or out, I just slide down the seat back. In my other Vettes I got compliments occasionally however my convertible 06 in white with chrome wheels gets complimented every single day usually several times a day!
I own that exact 2007 convertible in the same maroon color with the cashmere interior. Mine however has auto trans which puts the gearshift on the steering wheel. Mine also has the volume control and channel changer on the steering wheel. I just wanted to mention that those options were available. I think it's one of the best Corvettes ever designed.
The car test driven appears to be the base, LT1 model. No head-up display. No heated seats. Basic wheels. Although the brakes have been upgraded to drilled discs. I've just moved up from an '06 C6 LT3 convertible to a comparable '19 C7 LT3 convertible. I wouldn't have thought the C6 could be improved. Until I drove and bought the '19 C7!
I definitely like the C6 Corvettes as I had a 2005 new and a 2008 new. Both of convertibles and the 2008 was a Callaway car. In fact, the 2005 I had was the same color combination you have. Loved them both, great riding cars and can't say anything negative about them and never had any issues with the convertible electric tops and either car. Good luck with yours.
I`ve had an `06 C6 for a couple months and love it. I`m 72 yoa and a non-current aerobatic pilot. My other toy is a Harley Springer. Could have got one with an LS3 , which is quicker, but went with mine because it was un-molested.
I have this car! 06 Convertible with 47,000 miles. I'm long past the "Mid Life Crisis". 68 years young and am loving this car. Everything that was said is true about performance versus cost. There is no better value. Plus this is made in America!. I have the heads-up display and the paddle shifter which gives you the best of both worlds. The true American Sports car!
I got my corvette for 12k it had high mileage but everything was amazing in it the interior was clean the seats weren’t ripped and it had everything working I got it for a pretty good price it is the LS2 but it’s fast
This young man has me convinced that it’s time to engage my mid-life crisis mode and finally get this type of car before I can’t. Coming up to 54 is time.
Love your article. Bought my '09 (3LT) in '11 from first owner when it had 24K mi. He installed a COMP cam (115 LSA), cold air intake, LG headers and the LS3 turned slightly more HP than the stock LS7 for that yr model. The car is quick enough for a grocery-getter. Here in Tx I can get to the store for Blue Bell ice cream and back home before condensation forms on the carton !! I didn't understand much about the design before I got the car but after driving it, my hat goes off to all the folks in Bowling Green !!! Amazing vehicle for the $$$$
I am a certified Old Guy, and my hat is off to this Young Man who has really captured how much fun anyone can have with what is now an “older” Corvette. Much humor, but an accurate description. Oh, yes, you can get a “modern” car with all sorts of electronic doo-dads, but for pure driving fun, you can’t beat this model Corvette (full disclosure: I own a C5 Corvette, also no slouch in the “great to drive” category).
Funny. My C7 has two buttons for seat presets...button 1, no shoes...button 2, with shoes. Wouldn’t even attempt to drive it in western boots, so “good onya”.
I had a ‘06 C6 Z51 3LT couple this same color “Monterey Red”! We bought it with 34K miles and sold it with 102K! It was hands down the best Corvette. We drove it to the Corvette museum in Kentucky....and then onto the Dragon’s Tail in Tennessee and into North Carolina. It got 30 mpg....all day long on that trip.....and it only needed a rear wheel bearing....covered under warranty the whole time we owned it. It handled like a go cart and we need our 7 day trip driving it over the Mena Arkansas mountains before coming home back to Texas. I wished I’d never sold it.....but I wanted a C7 Z06 with 650 HP! Soon as the kids are out of College....I’ll have enough saved to buy a good used C7 Z06! Not a fan of the C8.....but to each their own. Great video! Was good to see my old Corvette....if only in a convertible.....racing around in that video. Keep up the good work!
Bought a 2005 C6 conv with 13k miles five years ago for 28k from a Chevy dealership, best vehicle purchase I ever made.only 1 mechanical problem in 5 years and that was a broken shift cable which was about a 200$ repair.
I agree I prefer the early C4 s mines an 87 still stuck with 16 inch wheels .They never get the credit they deserve and are an awesome car for the money. As long as you can get into it and out LOL.
Mine is a 2006 Monterey Red with black interior, Z51 3LT convertible. Everywhere she goes she gets compliments. Bought her in 07 w/under 1000 miles. The engine was modified and now is over 400 HP. I really don't need all those pony's. No plans to sell her, she's too great a car. She's a joy to drive and just plain fun. Chevy hit a home run with the C6.
Great presentation ! The video was very informative and clearly gave a “hands on” demonstration of the C6 features . This was the very best virtual test drive with all the information necessary on the C6 Corvette.
I have a '07 C6 Z51 Coupe automatic with paddle shift. I got out of a Porsche 911 to cut maintenance costs. I have no regrets; but I do miss the manual transmission.
'Great video!! ...'makes me want to part with $25,000 tomorrow for the right C6... I've owned a C2 roadster and a C3 t-top... and I'd love to have one more Corvette before I head into that last roundup (just celebrated my first birthday that begins with a "7")... So thanks again for giving so much detail about the experience of driving a C6 roadster...
Great job! Really enjoyed your straightforward, clear explanations and descriptions. Also love you gripe about all those whiners who demand a luxury interior experience from a high value sport car. When the interior in question is in a car costing 10's of thousands less than its competitors, expect a bit less where a sport car can be less (interior) and stop complaining. Truth is the interior they are bitching about is actually very nice and comfortable as it is in your 2006. If the car does not massage their butts they are not happy. Note: "Emblazoned" not "Embezzled" - but it was understood, so no foul. Well done!
Agree with all your comments on the interior...nowadays people look for so many useless features, leds and touchscreens that they forget they are buying a car...V8 way of life!
I have wanted a vet since I was 13 in 1962. Marriage, kids, house sort of got in the way. Bought a 65 but parts kept falling off. Got a 2003 and it was OK but I had a manual top and not enough horsepower. Have owned a 2008 for several years now. Perfect car! Plenty to get up and go and now At age 71 I’m happy!
Loved the video. It was not boring.I brought my dream car ( 87 convertible corvette) before 50. No crisis just fulfilling a bucket list promise before I turned 50. I plan on buying another. You sold me on this C6.
Great video I have a 2006 C6 Monterey red I Love it. My best friend has a 2016 C7 convertible automatic. I give him a bad time it’s automatic I love shifting I am going to keep this car for a long time. I told my daughter when I pass it’s hers, she said she is trading it in on a Mustang GT. I WILL LIVE FOREVER.😎
I own a 1995 Mustang GT and there's no way I'd trade a Vet for a Mustang. My wife agreed that I could get a newer Mustang, but she wanted me to get one with an automatic, so she could drive it. I told her that a Mustang with an automatic isn't a Mustang.
You nailed it! I bought my first sports car at 55 because I simply couldn't afford it before then. Now that the kids are out of the house and on their own, I'm 63 now and on my 3rd sports car a Mustang GT with the six speed manual. My wife wants to know when I plan on growing up. (hopefully never)
Had the same car in a Beautiful Velocity Yellow, 6 speed paddle shift. Sold for $20k with 48m to buy a C7. Love the C7 for 3 x's the $ but will Miss my C6 for years to come. Love almost all corvettes
I agree. People thought I was kidding but there was no way I would buy the new Corvette C7 without round taillights and I gave them a piece of my mind when they changed the lights so I’m keeping my C6 which I truly think looks better than the C7 Vette. I’m so pissed they took away the round lights. Damn them.
Love the review. Im 58 and yes I am looking for my first corvette. I also love the round tail lights. Thanks for explaining all about the C6. I believe the last year of the C6 was 2013 is that right?
Still to this day, my low mileage 2013 427 big block 60th anniversary Corvette convertible remains the most exciting and best car I've ever owned. It truly is an engineering masterpiece.
@@paulmoss7940 Not quite. LS7 is cross between what was once some small block components but GM considered it their modern version of the big block.....Sir.
@@frankcastle5294 OK. But folks I ask say its a 4/5 gen sbc. I just googled it and guess what ? That's what they said also. You better straighten them out. lol. I have the same car 60th GS LS3, and I bought it bc I didn't need the LS7 head problems or the speed. Hope it stays good for you though.
@@paulmoss7940 Always trust Google. They never ever F up the facts on anything. Head problems on the LS7? You're spending way too much time on forums and chat rooms.
You offer a very appealing analysis of this car. My wife and I own a near duplicate to the vehicle you demonstrated, albeit 1 yr newer ('07) with a 6spd auto trans. We've enjoyed 48k miles of trouble free road trips, and routinely realize 28+ miles to the gallon. When you tell people that - who are unfamiliar with this car, they think you're exaggerating. You can 'play' with this car and still realize 22-23 mpg, AMAZING. Prior to the purchase of our 07 Vette convertible, we owned a 1966 Cobra roadster (replica) mfg'd by (the former) Butler Racing Inc of Goleta, CA. Ron Butler - the mfg'g owner was Carroll Shelby's crew chief. It was a wonderful beast, but after 26 yrs of ownership (and perpetual wrenching on it), I sold it. The Vette is nearly as powerful and offers similar zest, but with waaay less drama. I like that at my age - as I was 55 when we bought our Vette new. You state the C6 could easily be a daily driver...and I couldn't agree more. It has a remarkably good size trunk and easily accommodates enough cargo or luggage for the intent the car was designed for. At age 68, I've long overcome the urge to be the first from every stop light. What I thoroughly enjoy most, is driving our Vette - with my wife along side me, and setting the cruise to maintain 63 mph through twisty county highway turns marked 40 or 45 mph. It corners so amazingly well, as you state - without any body roll, that it's simply a joy to drive. That is this car's "element" in my opinion. THANK YOU for your informative yet amusing dialogue in this video. Your analysis was 'spot-on'. Best regards young fella :)
I drove my 64 coupe to high school graduation in 71 .I still have the receipt from Clark Maple chevrolet in Chicago it was on their used car lot .They fixed a headlight door and a loose dipstick ,put 2 new tires on it $1800.out the door. Had it for 22 years .I now have a early C4 and a C6 Z51 my wife has a C5. they are all black .They are like Pizza and Tits ,theyr ALL GOOD some are just different then others !!!
I've had two C4 Corvettes and 4 years ago I bought a C5 04 triple black is definitely a Step Up good gas mileage and a lot of power and comfortable I'm 6ft 2in
Love the video!! Im 61, bought my first and only corvette about 4 years ago. 2013 Grand Sport coupe, had 9043 original miles on it, still brand new! Only sports car I ever wanted. So all of you that scream midlife crisis, hold on a second. Saving for retirement, divorce, and kids through college...The "crisis" that everyone screams about is finally over. About the corvette, its a great car, yeah its rough as hell, but it has performance suspension and ls3 power to go along with it. I do all my own maintenance on it, and would not dare let anybody else work on it. Its a true love!! Americas first and only sports car.
Rob, you only live once. I pulled the trigger about 8 months ago on a C6 Grand Sport manual. 40K miles on her. I love this car. The values are creeping up so find one and go for it. Its a car you can have and work on for the next 30+ years!
New sub 🤣🤣🤣no bells or whistles 50 year old mid life crisis 😆 I love that look on the c6 it reminds me of a true sports car with the headlight placement timeless classic design it's simply a beautiful car
A week ago purchased my first corvette. 2005 C6 Convertible, in millennium yellow, 38K mileage. Very good condition. All stock, at this point. Considering a better exhaust system and changing out the stereo. Love the car and since I have wanted a corvette for over 50 years, I plan to throughly enjoy it!
I have a triple black convertible 2007 C6 Vette automatic. This car is awesome! only 23k miles on mine! It's a head turner and fun to drive. I will be putting on the Corsa Exhaust system in Spring 2023.
