You can also look at the line counter on your reel when your digital reader is out of commission. You just have to reset it to zero after you deploy and connect your terminal tackle. Thats what you do when you dont have a counter on the downrigger. Trying to help.

Yep I can confirm Scotty stands behind their product. I upgraded from the 1106 riggers to the 2106's. Wasn't too long before one of my digital counters had moisture in it and quit working. Reached out to scotty and they sent me a new one asap. They said there was a bad batch from Thailand can were sending me one no questions asked. I just had to send a photo of the defective counter serial #. I put the scotty covers on them now when we are not fishing...as a preventative. I also love the Chamberlain release. Ran them in 2020-21, then switched to Blacks release in 22-23. Both work well but my fav is Chamberlain for the reasons you described. Going to switch to 1 of each for '24 season as I need to convince my fishing 1st mate.

Best I've used is Sam's pro release. Can set them up on a leash like a Scotty or cannon but work a lot like these.

I found that if use parts markers to mark things that needed marked, it helps reduce the confusion....like twin down rigger weights. Thanks for the nice video!

Thank you so very much for that. I have been looking for something like this for a long time and you just made my year. Yes you’re correct cringing when you overload the clip and pop then you have to start all over again and waste fishing time especially when you’re going over your favourite spot

Best pinch clip, maybe. The adjustable ones are much more precise. Pro Release, Chamberlain, etc. are the ones for serious downrigger fishermen.

Great video Kevin going to switch releases. Do you max out the tension clip going up so you can load the rod like crazy if so if you don't get a fish at the end of day won't it be hard to manually trip it?

Thanks for sharing. I switch from scotty clip to this release clip. Definitely better, can load my rod a lot harder and the clip doing its work right to release line even a herring size baby salmon bite. Love it

I run these releases as well, I’ve notice I get a lot of chafing on my fluorocarbon line where the release attaches, do you have similar problems? Maybe I’m twisting the line too much. Didn’t know if you had run into this problem and found a good solution.

why do you twist the line befoer you put it on the downrigger?

Mechanical releases can damage line and also false release. I stopped using them years ago. I am 76 now and the best release in my opinion is a rubber band. I would never use a mechanical release. Rubber bands are way better and faster to use.
