Wonder if the Murphy Lab had unpotted and slightly lower output PUs vs the standard custom shop reissue? I have both - my custom shop handles more gain and is beefier but the Murphy Lab has the true tele on roids sound of the vintage ones but will squeal if guitar volume is full up at high gain. Interestingly, I've found with the ML that you can hit a Tumnus in front with the volume down on the guitar and high gain on amp and get a fantastic sound without the squeal. Really good volume taper. Your guitar sounds fantastic. My solution was both but that size doesn't fit all 😬
Possibly! I thought the electronics were the same but I don't know that for sure. I just thought the difference in tone came from the slightly different way they do the lacquer and just the general variation from guitar to guitar. The same as how this one sounded different to the other 3 standard custom shops. Interesting how much variety there is in the same models! That's why playing them all and picking the best was so much fun

Haha, why not have both! Yes I highly recommend it if you're comfortable putting it together. It's not too difficult and if you buy good parts you can get something that's custom shop spec for under $1000. My strat that I built plays better than my American standard strat I had before. It's really lovely!
@@AlfieVaughanMusic The thing is I have an around 4 years old player (mexican) strat laying around which I dont use anymore. It is black with a white Pickguard and idk if it would look good or work. What do you think?
Worth a go but you're making it harder for yourself refinishing a guitar with a poly finish. I've done it a few times and it's a huge amount of effort to get the tough poly finish off the body. I'd say you're better off doing what I did and buying a fresh unfinished body and going from there. But up to you!
